Liam Smith bullied Canelo up onto the ropes in the first round. So there are no excuses of him gassing. lol @ that. I have current 1 eyed Margarito stopping Liam Smith in the 9th.
It only goes 1 way in my mind... prime Tony relentlessly walking Canelo down into the ropes but instead of standing in front of him like that Brit.... he puts his head on Canelo's chest and just snatch his wind from some hellacious rib shots. Round 6 and on would be very entertaining to watch imo.
Canelo of today would slaughter any version of Margarito. Canelo is sharp as razor in the ring these days and he is punching with great speed, power, and accuracy with both hands to head and body. He would make a human punching bag out of Margarito. Even the rugged Margarito can't stay standing from the bombs Canelo would put on him. Margarito's great work rate and stamina wouldn't do him much good because he would get knocked out early in my opinion.Margarito was a good fighter but Canelo has developed into a great fighter.
The Margarito without the eye problems and the one who still had magnificent conditioning would absolutely 100% beat Canelo only way Canelo wins is by avoiding being stopped because the judges would rob Tony.
There is just no way does Canelo keep up with the pace prime Margarito set it would way too much plus I noticed Canelo doesn't tend to throw when an opponent is comboing up he doesn't do it much.
Prime WARgarito only loses to Floyd and DLH of fighters of recent times. The man was a monster. Canelo gets stopped in the early rounds. Bricks for feet and low ring IQ against Margarito, that's bad news like the bears. I find it interesting that you used bricks to describe Canelo and not Margarito. Prime Margarito was defeated by Williams,Santos, and Mosley. He was ordinary when he fought guys close to his size.

At the time Santos was a champion and a top guy in the division. He won by judges(not sure what fight they were seeing) but didn't win win. You didn't see the fight because your starting argument was that Margarito didn't bully him when he actually did. Now you moved the goal post.At the time that division was really weak with only Wright and Mosley truly being high level fighters and we were able to see what happened when he finally fought a much older Mosley.
Santos wasn't exactly a high level fighter at 154 and you're missing the most important component of competition, did he win?

It'd go a lot like the Shane fight in terms of outcome... No doubt Canelo stops him.
Are people serious? Even a plastered Margarito gets utterly destroyed. It's a mismatch.
People think Liam "bullied" Canelo at any point? These people exist? Canelo was in control at every moment. He fought when and where he wanted. Even Liam acknowledged he had nothing for Canelo and wasnt ready for someone like him.
Man, the guys reaching to hate on Canelo or GGG are something else.
Canelo would beat the utter sh1t out of Margarito...Margo had 0 success when he did not have the size advantage..he would also be a huge target for Canelo who loves come forward fighters, he would LITE MARGO UP
Pretty much this. I think it would look like the Mosley fight if not worse since Canelo is bigger, stronger, and younger then Mosley. Canelo is a boxer puncher and anybody thats charges his head on is in for a long night. Thats why guys like Floyd, Cotto and Lara gave him problems by boxing with him.
The GGG fight is good because GGG is a legit middleweight with serious boxer and a seemingly solid chin. It'll be interesting if Canelo can fight him off. Margarito is overrated asf on here by Mexicans who despise Cotto.
You must of not seen the 2nd fight and just talking out of your ass. He had Santos on the defensive at times and Santos even outweighed him by 10+ pounds. Santos wasn't exactly a high level fighter at 154 and you're missing the most important component of competition, did he win?
Margarito couldn't bully true 154 pounders see both Santos fights. It would go exactly like the Angulo fight.

Canelo doesn't strike me as a fighter who can be steamrollered. He looks pretty solid to me physically and mentally, he has that knack of not taking the full force of punches that hit him, like a lot of the great Mexican fighters, he rolls his head well.
In terms of Cotto, some fighters have that aura about them where you can sense that they are a little bit vulnerable. There were signs that Cotto could be hurt and pushed back long before Margarito. What made people think Cotto would win the first fight was the versatility he showed up to that fight, I don't think anybody thought he would win a slugfest or outlast Margarito.
Any man can be overpowered or bullied if they give up too much size but I don't see that happening to Canelo against a prime margarito or anyone around 154-160 so GGG fans beware.
If he lacked toughness or mental fortitude it would have shown up by now, especially in those early fights in Mexico when he was mid-teenager learning his craft against tough, rugged, hard pro's. Mexican fighters don't necessarily have the flash or reach the level of skill of the best African American fighters, but you know the one's that do make it to the top are battle tested at the lower levels, and they aren't going to be soft touches, history tells us this much.
I think the Margarito that faced Cotto would make a good start and come out blazing in round 2 like he seemed to against everyone around that time. But against Canelo it would be like trying to move a brick wall for him as the fight wore on, and I think Canelo would start to wear him down with his counter punching, accuracy and combinations. Either late stoppage or UD for Canelo.
Canelo won't be bullied by margarito and would light up margairto like a Christmas tree..
Margarito is the biggest hype job of the past decade.. Fanboys make him out to be this unstoppable monster, yet he is basically a one-hit wonder with cotto, and untested green prospects...
Vs legit guys like clottey, santos, williams, shane,,,, margarito wasnt a monster
I think he'd beat up a younger Canelo, the Canelo that was active right before Margs retired. The one who fought Mosley, Cintron, etc. Not today's Canelo though.
Margarito is quicker than Angulo.
btw Angulo was coming back when they waved it off.
Margarito that beat prime cotto is better than Canelo that fought worn torn cotto to a controversial decision. I know that prime Margarito was faster than Angulo, but he still wasn't a speed demon and could be hit. Their was nothing controversial about the Cotto/Canelo decision and Angulo was definitely not coming back.
