I swear I had a Ring Magazine 2000-2001 where 'experts' discussed this fight. A fair share thought Erik would win. I even want to say the article was titled, "Why Erik Morales would beat Floyd Mayweather."
It was around the time Floyd called a $12 million HBO contract for 6 fights a "slave contract."
Thats the beauty of being here and looking back , we know what they did all the way and knowing how good and how accomplished Mayweather became , hindsight is 20/20 vision .
Floyd at 130 would beat the crap out all 3 Eric , Barrera and Manny , the only thing that makes people think different is because at that time those 3 were more accomplished and been around a little longer at the top , Floyd was the hungry young lion coming into greatness ,,,, in hindsight Floyd embarrasses the 3 of them at 130 .
Seriously, does anyone remember Morales above 126? he was 8-8, with only 2 ko wins. He lacked power and his reach advanatge, which was significant below 126 and allowed him to control fights with his jab, was not as prominent against bigger and taller men at 130.
Floyd would literally beat him half to death. I understand Morales bested him in sparring.
This thread is why I hate discussing fantasy fights involving Floyd because we can never have a really honest discussion. Posters always make Floyd ordinary and the dude he is fighting better then he actually was.
Exactly, and I'm about as big a Morales fan as youll meet. Morales is who made me a true boxing fan.
But c'mon, as everyone else has said, terrible matchup for Erik. Floyd shuts him out.
How would it go Floyd was much more agressiv in his 130 days it could be hell of a fight ,Morales right lead vs Floyds Jab :boxing:
If he can't win 1 round vs Raheem at 135 then how is he going to beat or even compete with Floyd at 130? This is a mismatch in every way!
Floyd prime started in Ndou fight. Very overlooked match.
It was the most extreme display of his offense and defense.
I got that fight on tape. 3 straight right hands in a row stopped ndou. Very exciting fight. But we never heard from or saw ndou again. So in hindsight the win isn't really impressive. Floyd did look brilliant tho
morales was slightly past his best but mayweather hadnt reached his best yet. was beatable, morales would have rolled back the clock and put in a great performance
I'll take a 21-24 year old mayweather over a 40+ fight vet anyday when their both ATG and one is naturally bigger.
Morales has nothing that would allow him to have the upperhand 12 rounds...mayweather was a prodigy bro

morales was a monster though, although guess raheem beat him but maybe morales wasnt properly focused on that fight. who knows. Would have been a great fight to have seen, of course floyd has the skills to pull it off but my hunch would be morales to win
Monster?
Morales had nothing but tough fights at the weight, his worst he ever won a title at
whereas 130 was where Floyd was most dominant
Morales fights nothing like Castillo, doesn't have the dirty tactics, inside game, nor will he come in the ring as a welterweight lol
I know during the Zahir Raheem fight it was talked about how Morales typically avoided Raheem style but wanted to test himself vs that style and of course it end up being just a BAD stylistic match up for him. With respects to the Mexican LEGEND, I do think Mayweather style especially the 130 Version of Mayweather would've been all wrong for him as far as style goes.
A better question is how about MAB vs. Pretty Boy Floyd at 130? Considering nobody here gives Morales any shot in hell. Because TBE!
Problem with both of them vs. Floyd is they were both past it once they went to 130+. Barrera was still closer to his prime than Morales, so who would take it?

Morales was a monster yes and an ATG but the style is completely wrong for him.
Add the fact you that Mayweather is much bigger, stronger and faster than he is and the fact that Morales was passed his best at 130.
He's got no shot in this fight.
have to side with el terrible. mayweather was beatable back then, castillo nearly did it, morales would have outworked him to a decision.
Castillo fight was at 135 and other than being Mexican warriors Castillo and Morales are nothing alike.
A prime, huge 130 lb Mayweatehr kills a past prime 130 on Morales. It's foolish to suggest otherwise.
I think Mayweather would win by a good margin. Morales was very good of course, but Mayweather was faster and more skillful on both offense and defense. Mayweather had an iron jaw and consistently superb conditioning. Mayweather was great at 130 pounds and seemed to be a more aggressive and a harder puncher for that weight class than he was at 147. He often scored KOs at that weight. Maybe his hands troubled him less in those early days.
Seriously, does anyone remember Morales above 126? he was 8-8, with only 2 ko wins. He lacked power and his reach advanatge, which was significant below 126 and allowed him to control fights with his jab, was not as prominent against bigger and taller men at 130.

yep
130 floyd is literally top 5 all time in that division for a reason
also those guys at 122, 126 didnt decide to move up until he went to 135,140...for good reason...they had no shot at beating him
Morales struggled mightily with two guys Mayweather defended the title against, hernandes and chavez....also his power, speed, and reflexes were slower at 130....he'd get outmanuevered, outpunched, outsped and dominated

lol floyd was going to war with midget jesus chavez but somehow el terrible is gonna get dominated because zaheer raheem fought and beat a past prime version of morales that had already gone through the ringer vs MAB and pac????
:lame:
Well Morales at 130 is the same version of Morales who went through the ringer with those men.
Also, you bring up Jesus Chavez, Erik Morales also went to war with him aswell and was out on his feet in the first round.
You also are using the worst version of 130 Mayweather (his last fight there when he struggled to make the weight)
The Mayweather that fought Corrales and Hernandez is a nightmare for the 130 version of Morales.

I said it would be hell of a fight but many people replied me that floyd is all wrong for Morales, but they didnt explain why.imo Morales right lead would bother Floyd
in my opinion marquez doesn't have a shot at 130.........mayweather was at his peek at 130. the smartest quickest & most powerful he's ever been.
he'd have been hitting a lot of air, and eating a lot more punches....he may have got stopped
pretty boy floyd had power, speed and reflexes....he stopped all his best opponents at 130 too....this aint the pot shot, defensive wizard of the 2010s
1990s was out for blood and embarrassed you
Marquez is a natural counterpuncher....its hard to outthink a quicker, faster, taller longer, more naturally gifted guy.
