Watching a clear video of the fight now I see that Kell Brook outboxed GGG for the most part in round 1 until he got hurt himself, and won round 2 conclusively while stunning him also.
It was only until the beginning of round 3 where his orbital bone broke and it just went downhill from there
Had he not broke it would have the rest of the rounds been like round 2?
I know his orbital bone broke because of GGG but had it never happened you'd have to believe Kell may have continued with similar success as rounds 1 and 2
I disagree, I see a fighter who from the 4th-5th round was starting to succumb to the sustained body attack of GGG as he tried to protect his eye and gave up on defending the body.
It doesn't mean he wanted to quit, Its just the reality of the situation.
Also I don't believe his orbital was broken in the 2nd round, I think it was broken around 2:20 mark in round 3. After getting caught with a jab then a left hook, brook started blinking and tapped his eye for the first time like it was hurt.
I always respect your opinion on here but we will disagree on this
I liked the fight it was exciting and thought Kell brought that fire in the 2,3 and most of the 4th who probably got discouraged knowing every time he threw the kitchen sink at Gennady , he just ate his best shots and responded by nodding his head like let's keep this up see who wilts first probably took all the wind out of Kells sail knowing he couldn't break Gennady
I saw a fighter after the 4th look mentally defeated and trainer tell him he's going to throw the towel if he doesn't show him something and Kell responded by 30 seconds in round 5 dropping his gloves not protecting his body or head letting Gennady tee off then pawing at his eye, then dropping the gloves again. To me whether consciously or sub consciously giving his trainer the go ahead to throw the damn towel
Again Props to Kell for making it a great fight and showing Gennadys vunerabilities but I believe he wanted out at that time and I'm not even knocking that it happens all the time in boxing
No. Golovkin was breaking him down piece by piece. Brook likely would have lasted a couple more rounds, maybe even 3, until the pounding would just be too much.
I don't think his corner was going to be involved if he came out for the 6th. I believe GGG would have settled the conflict decisively.
Kell threw really good punches with very good conviction! However GGG was still right there but when Kell took GGG's punches he started to dwindle.
It's not a welter vs middle, it's an above average power vs average power!!!!
They both weighed the same Brook has good power but GGG is above average in power.

This!
I don't buy into the argument about the size either. Brook is similar how Chavez Jr was - killing himself to make 147..
His natural weight is either 154 or 160.
I disagree that GGG decided that Brook couldn't hurt him, because we saw Brook seriously get his attention. Brook clearly hit hard enough, that if he caught you with a perfectly timed shot, he could put you down. And there were a lot of punches that were almost perfectly timed by Brook.
Also most of GGG's punches weren't that damaging, as Hopkins said, he looked like he was pushing his punches and they didn't have any snap on them.
Brooks punches did have snap on them right up to the end. He may not have had the power to make GGG super cautious like Lemieux, but he had enough power to break you down over the course of 12 rounds, especially if he was outlanding GGG all night like he was.
Either way, it was a much more competitive fight than people expected. Brook looked strong and fast at 160, I think 154 will be perfect for him.
Hopefully now people will fight GGG.
I failed to see this fight competitive, especially after rewatching it. When I was watching it live (with all noise) I thought it was much more competitive. But now (after rewatching it a few times) I am more of an opinion that it was quite one-sided. I give 2nd round to Brook and that's about it.
I saw how Brook is slowing down extremely quickly and how Gennady is shifting gears finding Brook more and more often. With every body punch, I can visually see Brook slowing down. On the other hand, when Brook was landing cleanly on GGG, I didn't see much effect. I didn't see GGG going backwards or Brook being able to push him back. At times it visually looked nice, but without much effect (especially long-term effect).
No way this fight would ever go 12 rounds, no way. Brook barely survived 4.5 rounds and he looked very bad IMO (not taking into account his eye). He could barely walk straight in the last round. I just cannot see the scenario in which Brook survives more than 6 rounds. I just can't. He can't push Gennady backwards, he can't fight inside, he can't take Gennady's power. IMO, Gennady was honest after the fight when he said he felt after the 2/3 round it was only the matter of time..

Yes, he would have had the same success he had throughout the fight of getting cornered and pummeled. The same success he had in the first when he was rocked with a double hook combo and had to cling on to save himself. The same success he had in the 3rd when he was knocked down. Even though the ref didn't call a KD, he was KDed and would have been again. Yes, he would have continued to have that same level of success
I think Gennady pretty much assessed Brook's power as the one that can't seriously hurt him. For Brook it was very unsustainable to keep fighting like he was. You can literally see how his energy is going down and fast.
IMO the plan from the beginning was not to respect Brook's power and that's why Gennady was much more aggressive from the first round than he usually is. And especially after he felt it he figured out he can literally take 2-3 punches while landing a single punch that would do much more damage. And he was right.
Brook was badly hurt and barely moved in 5th. He was minutes from being stopped injury or no injury.

I said rematch, because one of the uncertainties is if GGG had a poor performance because of what Brook was able to do, or prevent GGG from doing, or because GGG just had an off night.
It looked to me GGG was having difficulty with the unusual way Brook counters.
Not many fights roll a left hook then throw a long right hand afterwards, especially when GGG has already spun out after throwing the punch. That seemed to make GGG uncomfortable with his ability to properly gauge the range where he was safe, which is one thing he is usually very good at.
I suspect GGG decided to make it an ugly fight because of things like that.
Usually GGG controls the distance. It looked like kell was in control of the distance.
Id like to see the fight again. It was clearly affected by the broken orbital bone. For example, he started to get hit with more body punches when he was focusing more on not getting hit in his eye. That obviously showed up in him losing steam quickly. I think Brooke would do better the second time around, although I still favor GGG.

I disagree, From watching it last night I saw a fighter in between the 4/5 who didn't want to continue because he knew he couldn't win. His team just did him the favour
Of course he's going to act like he wanted to continue but I don't think he did

Yes, this is pretty much how I see it, although I don't think they pulled him out early. Brook might never be the same after this fight. If it went one more round his career would be over.
Gennady didn't look quite his usual self before, during and after the fight.
Not sure about the rematch. I can't see Brook doing anything more than what he already did, and it wasn't even close enough to beat one of the poorest performances by Gennady.
The fight I would love to see is GGG-DeGale. That is a real 50:50 fight IMO.

His body was taking too much damage for his success. GGG was beating him down like Darth Vader beat down Luke in Empire Strikes Back. Bottom line, the challenger wasn't ready to defeat the master on that day.
luke waited until vader got old in order to beat him. he used the Floyd strategy.
Most def!!! Also if Golovkin stopped those body punches and head shots, kept his hands at his sides and stuck his chin out, Brook had a very good chance of winning the fight. LOL
That's the reason why I said that Brook would've been able to continue longer if it wasn't for the eye, he was probably going to get stopped due to accumlation of punishment by a bigger man and exhaustion due to movement with the extra weight and his punches taking more out of him that out of the bigger man. Brook proved that he has quite a chin at 160 lbs. I've seen him get seriously hurt and knocked down at 147 before but it was surprising he didn't go down against GGG.
he did. clean knockdown in the third that the ref missed of course.
Thats not really fair to Brook, he seemed quite upset they threw in the towel. I think he could have continued and he probably felt the same.

The eye injury was really a blessing for Brook. Now he and his fans will try to say he was coming on strong and would have won without the eye injury. He couldn't handle GGG's power and accuracy and would get KO within 6 rounds every time even if they fought a dozen times. If the fight hadn't been stopped he would have been knocked down and out in a few seconds anyway. His trainer didn't stop the fight because of the eye injury. He stopped the fight because Brook was taking too many hard head punches and was about to be knocked out. If the eye injury was the reason for the stoppage then he wouldn't have let Brook come out for the start of the 5th round. If Brook's eye was never injured he still would have been KOed in round 5 in my opinion.
