The slew of mismatches just before PBC was created+ the ensuing drought of boxing on Showtime during the early PBC era has done too much damage to the showtime boxing brand.
One answer...AL HAYMON
The ratings went south after the Haymon ripped apart Golden Boy. That's the line in the sand when ratings fell. Prior to that they were competing neck and neck with HBO. They lost Golden Boy and then Haymon created PBC took all their fighters away and even now with PBC struggling with money and Haymon sending his fighters back to Showtime it has had zero effect on the ratings.
oh stfu. Your agenda is clear
I hope they get better, they have some awesome fights coming up.
Golden Boy should start doing fights on both networks and they can attract more talent.
It seems a lot of people dropped their Showtime subscription thinking they were going to be able to see all the Haymon advised fighters on "free tv".
Now that same bunch can't convince their wife to add Shiwtime back to their cable bill lol.
The ratings are bad because none of the 4 fighters are really well known. If Berto vs Ortiz were on Showtime instead of PBC, the ratings would have easily at least doubled. If it was Broner or Garcia, tripled.
Many of their fighters simply do not get enough exposure. Floyd should be talking up Jack left and right. Or they should be out there promoting themselves. Nobody knows Degale or Jack. A few may know Bute etc.
Wilder maybe the biggest name and draw Haymon has fought early this year on Showtime and pulled in 500k viewers. No way Berto vs Ortiz does more then 400k on Showtime right now. Wilder early 2015 was pulling in 1.2m viewers BEFORE Haymon created PBC. Since then no matter the name he does bad ratings on Showtime. Broner did only 500K viewers his fight on Showtime late last year FYI
Haymon has divided the fans in boxing and Showtime has suffered because of it. HBO just 2 weeks ago did 1.3m viewers. HBO Boxing After Dark cards with lesser known fighters are pulling in over 700K viewers.

My original post was correct. I just found out Showtime isn't even the #2 premium network. Starz is #2.

From Jan 2014
Showtime says it actually grew subscribers in the past year — to hit 23 million at the start of 2014, up from 22 million a year ago. HBO’s subscriber count in the U.S. has been flat at around 28 million, but the Time Warner-owned cabler says it, too, boosted sub numbers last year (though a rep declined to release specifics). Starz, for its part, said it added a net 1.2 million subs for the 12 months ended September 2013, to hit 22 million
They had 23mil subcribers in 2014, and 23.1 in 2015 virtually the same yet boxing is down well over 50%. THE DROP IN SHOWTIME BOXING RATINGS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SHOWTIME OVERALL SUBSCRIBERS. This is a boxing problem not a showtime problem.
Why do you guys think that HBO does better numbers than Showtime? I honestly think HBO has a lot of mismatches, but for some reason they get better numbers.
Also, HBO budget is decreasing and it seams that Showtime is spending a lot of money, shouldn't Showtime do better than HBO with that logic?
Haymon diluted their product and spread the fighters out all over the networks leaving gaping holes in Showtimes schedule. They've been on a downward spiral ever since that pre-PBC schedule of money-grabbing, monstrously mismatched fights (the Garcia/Salka era).
So you're saying people refuse to watch good fights because those fighters are associated with Al Haymon? That doesn't make any sense
i'm saying boxing fans which make up a very small percent of Showtime's overall subscribers either cancelled Showtime or they are not watching. showtime has not lost over 50% of their overall subscriptions. Yet it's just Showtime Boxing that's down by that amount. And it started early last year the exact same time Haymon made his big moves. It's pretty undeniable that it's had a negative effect on showtime.
Game of Thrones. Most people don't subscribe to premium networks for boxing HBO has always had good original shows. What original programming does Showtime has that keeps people subscribing? This is a serious question because I only subscribe for boxing on both networks. But I know Game of Thrones his huge.
The amount of subscriptions showtime has compared to HBO is virtually identical to what it was a year and a half ago. Showtime has lost boxing viewers but has lost no significant amount of overall subscriptions. This is a showtime boxing issue there other programming ratings have not fallen by the percents we are seeing in their boxing. The divorce between Golden Boy and Haymon starting PBC and negativity that they are now attached to because of their association with Haymon has more to do with these ratings then anything else.

Yeah these ratings are terrible. In 1 year showtime has lost more then 50% of their boxing viewers. These are ratings they got for shobox a year and a half ago. They used to avg almost 1m viewers now in 2016 they avg 300k and the highest rating was 500k. The sad part is even though the ratings fell off a cliff I believe they are actually paying more for fights then they used to. Haymon has really run showtime into the ground. Took all their fighters to PBC and now that they are all coming back to Showtime it has had no effect in the ratings.
