Spence looked sensational in dispatching Chris. Used an array of punches, fought outside, fought inside, went upstairs, went downstairs, he was really impressive. Now people are ready to crown him, including myself. I have an old thread calling him the future of the sport.
But here is the double standard. GGG has been looking sensational for the last few years in dispatching opponents. Fighting from the outside, inside, going upstairs, going downstairs, cutting off the ring, using array of punches but yet people say GGG is a hype job, over rated, he is nothing but Kelly Pavlik or Arthur Abraham.
I don't get it? Help me understand the logic?
exactly. Spence looked good had the perfect game plan for Algeri alot of people didnt notice it but Spence hurt Algieri to the body in the first round and algreri hid it well but didnt help.
I remeber some mexican dude spence fought gave spence a wake up call late in the round buckled him ever so slightly so he's their to get hit but what I like about spence is he shows up with his entire tool belt for the job not just one or 2 tools that is just enough to get the job done, he shows up like WHAT ELSE!
I agree, Spence does look well schooled but he looked too well schooled. Up right, robotic punching, not much dynamism. It works in the modern day but if he comes up against a fluid fighter who can adapt, maybe Bradley (we don't know what shape he is in physically and mentally after the beating from Pacquiao), then he may come unstuck.
Spence is too old to be considered a "prospect" at this point.
It's enough to say he's still young in his career, which is why he hasn't had any big fights.
GGG on the other hand has no excuse, especially when someone like Lara has been calling for him.
Where is Lara at bro? If he isn't ringside at Lil G's fight this Saturday, and he isn't in the ring calling for the fight after Lil G demolishes Wade.........I'm going to seek you out, personally, and ask why didn't Lara make his wishes known like he did with Candela? So be prepared to give your answer if he isn't there, if he doesn't call Lil G out......all of NSB will want to know, where was Lara? :dunno:

Trump did it. His campaign run has caused this massive tidal wave of racism that has trickled over into the boxing world. Since GGG is white looking, he is the Trump of boxing, he must be taken out at all costs, his existence is racist.
:boxing:
One is a prospect and one is a world champion with numerous title defenses. 5 or 6 years ago there wasn't much criticism.
Now if Spence goes on a streak of underwhelming opposition I guarantee you the criticism will come.

The difference is that Spence is only viewed as a prospect. Given his resume, that is just. On the other hand, g string fans would have you believe that he is an ATG and top ten p4p without fighting even one quality opponent
Nobody is crowning him. I see he's got talent an am.excited to see him with the other welters and possibly super welters or junior welters. GGG is 34 and has a prospect's resume.
Awesome sig pic!!!
In fairness Golovkin was getting the credit but he hasnt upped his levels this last while, he needs to start forcing some interseting fights he has fought good fighters but not the best in the division fighting Wade does nothing for him. its not all his fault but he would need to start trying a bit harder, if spence is still fighting people like algeiri in a year or two people will start getting sick of it
You are a psycho Golovkin fan. Golovkin is 34 and never fought a top 60 p4p fighter.
You saw the names Ward and GGG and no obvious compliments to Ward and the salt just started stinging and the assumptions just came? You don't actually have any idea what I posted, do you? I can tell by that avy where you went wrong though. I'm sorry for your loss. I didn't say anything bad about Ward. Rest easy...?
Top 60 p4p? Wtf, man.
Well if he manages to be around for longer and to make himself a bigger name in the meanwhile then all power to him, I personally don't see it happening, the only way this guy is getting more popularity is by fighting someone with a name, ALL great fighters took risks and made sacrifices to get that big name fight, Hopkins moved DOWN to 156 depite being a bigger MW than GGG to fight Dela Hoya, Pacquiao moved up for the bigger fights, Duran jumped 12 pounds to fight Leonard, they didn't wait for sanctioning bodies to hand them vacated titles that won't do their careers any good and that's what people expect from someone with the talent and hype that GGG has, I really want to see this guy become the big dog in boxing because he deserves it, but he has to follow in the footsteps of greats if he wants to be one.
At what age did Hopkins move down t fight Oscar at 157? What middleweights did GGG choose to not fight? What two blown up welterweights does he need to fight to become a legend like Hopkins at middleweight? What two guys should he fight three more times to equal Hopkins fights with Echols and Allen? After you answer these questions, maybe then you will realize how far along he already is. But answer the questions first.
Spence calls out guys that he knows Haymon won't put him against.
Imagine Spence against someone who could punch or brawl.. Dude is a brutal KO waiting to happen
Fighting flat-footed in an aggressive manner isn't a problem once you make sure you're American when you do it.

Hopkins is the perfect comparison. Ignored for the most of a decade until DiBella got him into Don King's middleweight tournament. When he got his chance against the superstar that was Tito he took it. But what? That was ok for Hopkins but not for Golovkin? Why? Because he's a foreigner?
So GGG should wait for 10 years until he gets a chance? is that what you really want him to do at the age of 34? if Dela Hoya had won his paper 160 belt in 98 Hopkins would've probably gone down to 156 to fight him, he just didn't have the oppurtunity that GGG has right now with Canelo, and nobody knew that Hopkins was going to be able to fight so long at that level and even move up 2 weight classes in his 40s to fight top bigger guys, same goes for GGG, to me right now he's just a guy who's wasting his career on fighting for meaningless belts that don't help him financialy nor legacywise, maybe he will be around for a long time and do what Hopkins did, we will never know until he does, and until then he's just a guy with a lot of wasted potential.
I think the hype for GGG was similar to Spence's now when he broke into the mainstream
I dont think its double standards. If Spence is in the same position as GGG is now in two years or so then I reckon people will say the same things about him as they do about Golovkin.
People love a fighter with momentum. Not necessarily GGG's fault he lost his, but he lost it nonetheless
Is he the first fighter in history that couldn't manage to get big names with him in the ring? absolutely NOT! this happened hundreds of times before, bottom line is, this is pro boxing and not he amateurs, this is NOT organized competition, this is ENTERTAINMENT and the guy that puts more asses in seats in the number one guy, and almost ALL fighters that got to be the number one guy OVERCAME some adversity and accepted fights were they were at some disadvantage but took the risk anyway and became what they became, GGG is not better than any of them, and with his level of skills and talent people expect him to follow that tradition, pay the price if you wanna be successful!
Last time I checked Bernard Hopkins was the best MW in the world and one of the best in history when Oscar dela Hoya won a paper title at 160, in the perfect world Hopkins should've been the A side who called the shots on the fight with Dela Hoya, instead because of popularity, Dela Hoya enforced all his terms and conditions on the fight and made the lineal highly recognized legendary MW champion come DOWN to freaking 156 to fight him and guess what, Hopkins called his bluff, went down and risked being drained and losing everything just to get that guy in the ring with him, and he came out on top, doesn't this situation remind you of the Canelo GGG situation a little bit? but what does GGG do, he's waiting for the WBC to hand him some paper title that won't do his career any good. The bar has been set too high and if you're not gonna live up to what people before you did you will get criticized.

Why does GGG have only 3-4 good years left? He takes very good care of himself, has modern science and has other middelweight champions running away with excuses. Why does he have to move up before accomplishing his goals?

This is a classic case of cherry-picking facts and ignoring the irrelevant ones. Like when racists say black people commit more crime, and refuse to have any discussion about poverty or environment or any other contextual factors.
But context always matters and it matters a lot in boxing.
I actually do think Golovkin is overhyped at this point, but there are so many haters that refuse to have any reasonable discussion about his resume. The facts are:
1. Universum deliberately held back his career to protect their star
2. He was ducked by everyone in the middleweight division at first
3. As soon as he could get recognizable middleweight opposition in the ring, he fought them and crushed them
4. He worked his way into becoming the mandatory for the biggest star in the post-floyd/manny boxing world, and he is looking to enforce it
The only thing people can throw at him is that he didn't fight Ward. That's literally it. But the same critics will twist themselves into knots trying to justify other fighters not taking fights on business grounds. It's pure hate.
