A little bit of both. You get up at 8, the ref asks if you're ok, if you wanna continue, shakes your gloves a bit and you get a few extra seconds.
Martin didn't even try that. He waited til the last millisecond and then attempted to stand up. By then it was too late. I was all team martin going in, but this stoppage was all him and not the ref's fault
UK ref so it's expected
In that case he should have done his homework and got up at 7/8. Malik Scott did the same thing against chisora and we had the same dumb excuse regarding the "UK". If you know it's the UK then get up at 8 maximum when you get KD, don't get up at 9.5 and pretend like you want to continue when we all know you want out.
wasn't he making 10 million dollars or so? why get beat up? martin knew he had no skill so he took a couple punches and a couple million and now he's set for life. no point in being tough when you don't have skill to back it up. be smart.
Nah it was the classic getting up at 10 and pretend you wanted to carry on.
One of the oldest tricks in the book.
Absolutely. He had no intention of beating that count. He tasted that power and found himself a way out.
You dont do this to a champion - the ref treated the 'Prince' like a prospect..he was quick to react on the final count , you can see he had a spring on his step...however the dumbass should of known this is UK.
Martin was clear-headed and on steady legs. So either Martin can't count to ten, or he was looking for a way out. In any event the referee should have let the fight continue. The fans at home bought the PPV and those in the arena bought tickets. They wanted to see a fight, not a farce. The ref is a dumbass regardless.
OK call him a Paper Champion if that makes you feel better :dunno: he is not the one who stripped Fury. Joshua took care of business!
He took care of business. But he doesn't deserve hype until he beats someone relevant. I don't dislike Joshua and think he's got the potential to be great. What I do dislike is all the hype he's getting before beating anyone notable. In the UK he's seen as the next ****ing Ali from the way people talk.
This is the annoying thing people calling him world champion. It's a paper title and it's more of a paper title than literally any title in any other division pretty much. Charles Martin is probably not a top 50 heavyweight, and the heavyweight division is weak past about number 5. There can only be one world champion per division and in the HW it's Fury at the moment.

He quit.
It was even a long count to begin with.
How can anyone cry and think otherwise?
Martin got hit with two punches and went down from both of them. It doesn't matter because, if the fight had continued, Martin was going to get KO'd anyway.
I haven't seen it for a second time but it looked as though he wanted the referee to make the decision for him. You can tell when a fighter intends to get up because they move in a position that enables them to beat the 10 count. He was sat motionless, staring at the referee, until the last moment.
Martin just said in a post-fight interview that he timed the count wrong. Because the ref went to guide Joshua towards the neutral corner, when he got back to Martin the count was at 6, Martin took a deep breath and then mistimed the count.
