With the condition that eye was in, and that beating he took in round 10, I thought that fight should have been stopped. The ref sucked and the corner suck for not protecting Margarito from himself. He was way down on the cards and was gassed as hell by round 11 and had no chance of winning.
Now Margarito has permanent eye damage.
Also I think this is the last time Manny actually looked like he had the killer instinct in him, very brutal fight.
I know people talks about Pacquiao not getting any KOs since 2009, but they could have easily stopped this fight and the Algieri fight.
Algieri no, definitely not. Margarito fight should have definitely been stopped though.
The corner and ref dropped the ball bad in this fight, as much as I like to see a fighter get every chance to win, the fight should have been stopped.
Tony showed a lot of heart, but even if they somehow won, the cost was too much.
Both fighters paid a heavy price by letting a one sided fight go to far, Tony was hurting the smaller fighter, but losing by a mile.
Hard one to stop. You're looking at a small guy facing a much bigger guy and on some level people are bound to think 'How much damage could he be doing?"
A lot as it turned out. Crazy thing about that fight is the that if Tony got on top for one round he probably would have stopped Pac. He only had a few moments in the fight and he still left Manny in bits afterwards.
He did, the only difference is unlike Cotto, Pacquiao refused to bow down and crumble, Pac showed a lot of heart and toughness in that fight, he was outsized and was getting trapped in the corner several times but got back out and fired off on Tony. Tony put heavy pressure on him.
The one point in the fight Margarito hit Pac with two back to back body punches in the same area as Pac got tied up on the ropes and stuck there, Pac nearly sat down you could see he was in pain but fired right back.
This was def a brutal fight for both guys, its weird how some people say it was an easy fight for Pac, it was probably his most brutal fight, he had to go through a ton of punishment himself and its the fight that took the most out of him and his legs and movement were never the same.
Absolutely should have been stopped. The ref is not supposed to be keeping an eye on the clock and let it keep going if 'it's just another couple rounds'. If the damage being sustained is too severe (I'd say an eye swelling to a cherry counts for this), they are supposed to stop it. Period. If referees always used that criteria, then Wilder would have lost the hw belt to that handpicked bum Duhaupas
I think it definetely should have been stopped. I have seen tons of fights stopped that were much less one sided with damage that was not nearly as severe.

Margarito never stopped fighting, and boxers have fought with one eyes plenty of times with varying success. Hindsight is always 20/20, .
Not in this case!

Algieri got up on 10 after getting smoked in that hilarious round. It should be a KO win. As should the Margo fight.

Shame on the ref and the corner. They both failed to do their jobs.

He brutalized margarita, pure offensive mastery, also pacquiao was severly undersized and weather the storm and two vicious body shots that landed consecutively on the rib while he got trapped on the ropes, he wa left in bed for three days from margaritos body attack. It was a burtal fight both ways. That fight showed also that manny has a high tolerance for pain, he refused to sit down from those body shots.
That algieri fight should have been stopped after the heavy knockdown, algieri has heart but he did nothing but run the entire fight, i expected more from him.

Margarito ran out of rounds. In a 15 rounder he rallies back late and bullies Pac to the corner and drops him.
Larry cole the lame as ref should have stopped it but he wanted margarito to win, he was the same moron who told marquez he was up in the cards when marquez was in a war against that filipino scrub jimrex jaca. Also cole ruled pacs slip a knockdown in the barrera fight.
