Just this past Saturday UFC's moneymaker and 145lb champ Conor Mcgregor jumped from 145lb to fight dos Anjos at 155lb, but dos Anjos was hurt, so Mcgregor had to jump to 170lb to fight a legitimate top #5 170lb and dangerous opponent in Nate Diaz to save the UFC ppv event. Even though he lost, it was two of the most exciting rounds of fighting ever!!!
In the co main event we had Holly Holms getting submitted by Miesha tate...the former champ fighting a top 2 contender in her weigh division...sigh...
Shame on you boxing...we had champ and contenders fighting tuneups after another....
Hate to admit it but I am starting to love UFC (MMA) more than boxing. It's just so fun to follow. It's very well organized and they know how to produce content to get you hooked. Boxing almost seems boring to me now in comparison. I am trying hard to stay interested in boxing now but my interest is shifting.
I love it how ever since Floyd retired, some of these "boxing fans" are coming out saying they're starting to like MMA more.
UFC model isn't good for fans really. PBC's pseudo control should be proof - have too many fighters under one roof, there becomes the problem of keeping them active, amongst other problems. The UFC cards have been garbage for the last few years.
I think a hybrid model would serve the sport the best. Have the PBC be the central "hub" if you will. with options for all other promoters to have their fighters on PBC cards if they would like..

I dream of the day someone with some money gets a clue in boxing & makes a NFL of boxing. Can you imagine how f#cking dumb the NFL, the MLB or the NBA would look like if teams could pick their own schedule each year? Have the Patriots trying to play Junior College & High School teams lol.
Boxers, random promoters & random managers need less control. Thats just the reality. And the sport will be better for the top boxers legacy, better for the fans & a more competitive sport that will garner a whole new generation of fans when this happens. And sure the 2 or 3 tip top guys might only get $10M-$15M+ instead of $30M-$100M+, but the overall upside for the sport of boxing would be huge/
Tough job but it can happen. But remember Conor was the first UFC fighter to get a $1mm purse in UFC history. UFC model is good for fans, bad for fighters..
Lmao. If the fights I mentioned arent exciting or enjoyable then I can't help you..
I love boxing more than I do mma, but to think mma doesnt have great fights on par with boxing is absurd in my opinion
Fixed and I didn't say the fights weren't exciting to watch, I said they weren't as exciting as a good boxing match like the fights I mentioned. Take the edgar vs maynard fights, I enjoyed those fights because they were back and forth but I still dont think the quality was the same as a Ward vs Gatti - not even close.
Rear naked is very simplistic, mand probably the easiest to do, but try doing that to a guy that knows how to defend...
It's superhard to choke a guy that is also well trained and can knows how to defend.. I train in bjj but am no expert, and it's amazing what black belt level guys can do..
Example of what skills there are- it's mostly about positions of arms, leverage, especially for things like arm triangle, or triangle, anaconda. If you have a guy in a triangle but don't have it properly sunk in, or don't have his arm across, your not going to get the choke.. I'm probably not explaining it to well, but trust me, if it was so easy to land these chokes, everyone would be doing them. There is a lot of skill n technique to land them, especially guys trained to defend them.
Saying there is no skills in chokes, is like someone saying there is no skills in the jab, anyone can do it.. What's so hard about snap a punch out real quick.. No skill... We both know that's not the case with the jab
I think you've done a fine job of explaining. That's helpful. I will say that the chokes and the grappling moves do seem to be most effective against opponents who have a weak ground game or against exhausted opponents in many cases. These are clear indications of what you're describing. It makes sense.
Ok, but are you capable of explaining in forensic/scientific terms the skill involved? You're giving me examples. Not better helping me understand the technical brilliance of wrapping your arm under somebodies chin and squeezing really hard.

True that happens sometimes, just like in boxing when one guy gasses and gets stopped..
But the real skill is when you can put on a choke when your getting beat or in a rough fight,, silva popping that triangle on sonnen, or when big nog was getting beat by Sylvia and he caught him in a choke... Jon jones choking out machida..
Werdum catching fedor in a triangle..
Watch the old school Nick diaz vs takanori Gomi fight from 2006ish in pride,, incredible fight and incredible choke to end..
Shinya aoki has out of this world chokes..
Royce Gracie vs Dan Severn way back in the day, another good example
Not only that but, like boxing, things like movement, positioning, and technique are things that have to be learned over a long and consistent period of time spent training. You can teach anyone to throw a left hook, a right straight, or an armbar, but without the ability to move into position, set up the attack, and understand when and where it can be properly applied, it's useless. I mean, there's always the chance of just jumping into it and landing it, but to efficiently apply those techniques, I think everything else has to be learned to supplement it. I always compare grappling to boxing, in the sense that the average joe can understand a KO punch or a chokehold, but when things get technical and slower (Jake Shields, GSP, Mayweather, Rigondeaux) those same people start *****ing and moaning about how "boring" it is. And they're not always wrong because that **** can definitely get real boring, but I think it takes a certain amount of education to better appreciate the minor details.
I don't think anyone is stirring up anything... The thread is a ufc or boxing thread... It's not like mma is being talked about in every thread.. It's an open discussion
It goes without saying that the boxing fans on a boxing forum or the MMA fans on an MMA forum are going to be less thoughtful about their arguments. We all know this. Anybody trying to stir up any amount of debate from the other side is trying to pick a fight. This has been going on for years and the majority of disrespect has come from the MMA side. We know this as well.
I can't disagree with that. As an MMA fan, I often find myself rolling my eyes whenever people like Dana White try to belittle boxing, that also goes for people who run around NSB with threads like this. That being said, it's not uncommon to see the opposite happen. I've seen a lot of people randomly start crap at Sherdog and some of the other big MMA forums, which, as you said, is just as stupid.
Fair play to you, sir.

What's stupid is MMA fans coming onto a boxing forum and trying to kick knowledge and start sh*t with boxing fans. What's stupid is Ronda Rousey, Dana White and the rest of the MMA instigators constantly trying to demean and belittle boxing and boxing's elite fighters.
Yes, they are different sports. Let's think about that for awhile. Any boxing fan who goes on an MMA forum and tries to stir up conflict is just as much a f*cking moron as any the morons here on Boxingscene doing the same thing.
There's a DIVISION here and it's been caused overwhelmingly by loudmouth MMA fans. Period.

1. Stupid comparison. That's like saying, "NFL >>> Basketball."
2. Diaz is NOT a top 5 Welterweight. Top 10 at Lightweight, sure. But he's not top 5 at 155lb.
3. The notion that grappling isn't "fighting like a man" is ****ing retarded. It's a different type of fighting and, like Boxing, is definitely IS an art and a skill.

Wouldn't it be more interesting if you explained why it takes skill? In most cases I see that being applied to an exhausted opponent who is ready to submit. I'm curious to see what you have to say.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one.. popping a triangle choke, or an anaconda, etc takes a tremendous amount of technique and skill..

Oh, and yes, Antonio. I do think it's absolutely chicken sh*t to fight that way. 1000%. "Choking somebody is an art." :lol1: That made my day.
How about instead of me going to a class and calling everybody chickensh*t maybe your big bad ass should shut me up, yeah? You're talking way tough, bra. Is this some internet sh*t? You don't know who's on the other end, duke.
