Am I the only one who is almost burnt out by boxing right now? This past weekend we had cards on both networks and both were completely one sided cards. I didnt fall for the Lundy trash talk either. Dont get me wrong im still going to watch all the main cards but it just seems like boxing is headed in a boring direction. When PBC is putting on more competitive fights then hbo you know something is off
Hopefully its just part of the late winter when nothing happens boxing wise but lets be honest even the spring schedule is bla. What do you guys think?
i thought i was the only one.
for a minute i thought i was actually losing my love for boxing but its just the fact that there are no intriguing match ups.
before i would be all up on boxing news websites, youtube, social media, etc. but as of late havent even bothered with it. nothing to talk about...nothing exciting.
boxers as of late are taking the safety first approach to there careers.
Disagree, there are always worthy fights to be found and/or be involved in. Blockbuster fights are not for every weekend and everything involves a lot of politics and shit these days. Dust up smaller cards, go to a gym, there are always new prospects to follow depending on where you're located.
I'm glad to see this because I made a post about this very thing in a thread last night about the HBO card. It's not just you. Boxing is not exciting me at all lately. I think the loss of Floyd and Manny is a big part of it, because those two (for the most part) were always against top competition. Whether you liked or hated them, they weren't protected to the degree that a lot of these hyped guys are right now. Why? Because their teams/promoters knew that they were *legitimately great fighters*. Thurman, Garcia, Crawford, Wilder etc....they're good fighters, but are they great? I don't think so. And we'll never know because today's business plan is to just coast them along at the level they're already at, beating on no-hopers. It's not interesting or exciting in any way. I'm so f***ing tired of mismatches and boring fights. It's worse than bad - it's BORING. There are some fights I still want to catch, but as a whole the sport has fallen off drastically as of late. Someone...anyone!...please breath some life into this corpse of a sport. We need personalities and good matchups. Right now we have neither.
First half of the year was going to be bad just based off the schedule. The good matchups wont happen until late April or May. That's when we'll get Wilder-Povetkin, Lomachenko vs. Walters, Thurman vs. Porter, Canelo vs. Khan etc.
March isn't looking that good other than Ward vs. Barrera.
good point ya late winter is always dead matchup wise then spring and early summer brings big matchups

It's just you man.
Boxing has never been more alive, to me.
Fury taking the HW division by storm.
Maidana making a return to WW.
Bradley/Pac III.
The rise of Verdejo.
The fall of swagswag.
The end of the cold war.

While I haven't completely stopped watching boxing, I'm also not as thrilled as I use to be. In fact, I'm somewhat getting tired of it due to the number of big matches that hasn't happened yet. Canelo-Golovkin? Khan-Brook? Kovalev-Stevenson? Wilder-Fury? Thurman-Porter?
Ducking is the main reason why the first three hasn't happened yet while the last two are unfortunate but understandable reasons (network issues and injuries). But after the Mayweather-Pacquiao situation, no way am I gonna wait another 5 or 10 years until everyone become old men on their ways out of the sport.
This is one of the main reasons why I'm starting to turn to MMA because they do have the best fight best at the right time. In the last couple of months, MMA has also produced the more interesting stories compared to boxing (with upset wins, controversies, competitive fights, and newer stars). Ignoring that embarrassing event in Bellator, MMA seems to be growing while boxing feels so stagnant with its lack of big matches that people want.

Did you watch Santa Cruz vs Martinez
Agree 1000%!
I don't see no "Potential Greatness" going into the Post Pacquiao and Mayweather ERA either. I don't see anybody that is special who really stands out and can be a All Time Great. All I'm seeing is HYPE of fighters who really haven't done ANYTHING! Casuals hyping guys who knock out Weak Opponents.
Here is the biggest thing...NO PERSONALITIES! Other than Tyson Fury, these boxers are so fuking uninteresting outside of the ring. The biggest Personalities in boxing right now are: Tyson Fury, Angel Garcia and Ruben Guerrero :lol1:
Tired of the split among fans, Promoters, managers, networks and all of that stuff, it is crippling the sport right now and I see this sport sinking further and things only getting worse unless something is worked out and everybody start working with each other
Kovalev is a natural as far as personality. It just shows how horrible HBO is now. How do they expect to build stars when all they do is squander the opportunity? Instead of embracing Sergey, Kellerman acted apologetic to the boxing fan watching on TV, as if showing personality is offensive now. More often than not, HBO telecasts just end on a low note, no matter what takes place.

You are not alone. Boxing used to have the element of protect your hyped investment/prospect. Showcase fight were always part of it. But now even if a fighter becomes champ its back to showcase fights. Unappealing. I still watch but usually the fights dont get my full attention.
I'm looking forward to the Showtime card this weekend. Antoine Douglas stepping up in competition against Khurtdsidze.
Ward/Barrera is a good fight, Povetkin/Wilder is being finalized.
I'm good. Not the greatest lineup but waiting to see who steps up to carry the sport on their back.
I watch boxing on all channels.
Brit, asian , american and mexican boxing .
If you only watch hbo and showtime main event and pbc mismatches your a casual pretending to be a hardcore fan.
Real fans can watch a fight between two unknown fighters
I am excited about spence algeiri though.
Along with loma vs walters
There are definitely some fights to look forward too, such as the above. I'd add:
Ali/Vargas
Chagaev/Browne seems ok..
Porter/Thurman (hopefully eventually)
Pac/Bradley III card as a whole is interesting
Joshua/Martin might just turn out to be good
Glowacki making his first defense against Cunningham interests me
Parker/Takam might be aight.. I'm hoping it will set up Joshua/Parker
Boxing has lost a lot nobody outside of us hardcore boxing fans take the sport serious. Robberies and mismatches are the norm right now, we got people actually trying to convince themselves that Canelo-Khan is a great PPV fight for fvcks sake.
Another thing that I notice is how HBO try's to tell and give excuses to the viewers on why their network star fighter isn't giving us a good performance blaming it on their opponents mind you that are huge underdogs. HBO product has been crap, they need to give in and work with PBC. Jim Lampley's show "the fight game" is terrible and misleads boxing fans.
PBC has paid their fighters ridiculous amount of $$$ to fight tomato cans. Santa Cruz got $1 million for last nights fight against Kiko "stepping stone for 122-126 champs" Martinez of course he was asking for $3 million to fight Rigondeaux. Noboby wants to take risks if they are getting paid well against tomato cans.
The sport of boxing has been ehhhh
Maybe its because im turning 30 in a few months and thats just how it goes, but I havent properly made a night out of watching a fight card in..... ages.
I havent even got around to watching Cotto-Canelo.
want a cookie?

Kovalev has been about the only source of fresh air for me. The Pascal post fight interview alone was more entertaining than the rest of the sport combined.
ya his fights are fun no doubt its to bad he cant lock up any high profile fights
Watching more MMA now as well. And it kills me because I love boxing so much. But the number of legitimate top-class fights between the top fighters in the division is truly appalling right now, with no hope of reconciliation any time soon. Canelo vs Khan is a circus fight, Kovalev and Ward is probably never going to happen, Golovkin vs ANYBODY decent isn't going to happen, etc.
Porter vs Thurman is about as good as it gets right now, and even that feels like B-level matchmaking.
