In an interview Mayweather said,
"I made famous."
Do you think this is true? Vote and discuss. Is Maidana famous because of Mayweather?

Floyd gave him the platform to make his presence known. Before the Floyd fight, Maidana had already been the headliner for numerous main events. He was even going to be the PPV fight for Broner. He had been in some of the most action packed fights of the last decade, a true embodiment of what boxing is all about. Floyd gave him the platform, but it was up to Maidana to truly make himself known. Whether he ended up like Berto (he isnt more popular now than he was before) or not was up to him. He chose to give Floyd tough fights and therefore people still remember him as being a threat to anyone and a lot of fantasy fights arose from his performances. Even now most of us want him to stay retired but a part of us want him to get in shape and come back hungry, not just for money.
He crushed broner who was known as baby Floyd....Then roughed up Floyd enough for a rematch....I mean After the first fight Floyd didnt know if he had won that fight remb. look on his face during scorecards or when the crowd reaction after they were read.
Maidana actually met the president of Argentina a couple weeks after his first fight with Floyd and I believe was even appointed by the Argentine president to some sort of informal position (sports ambassador or something like that) so yeah, the Floyd fights did greatly increase his popularity. I know a couple of Argentine women in the U.S. who know nothing about boxing (only sport they follow is soccer during the World Cup) and they intently watched both Maidana fights vs. Floyd...
in the US probably. but chino made floyd famous in argentina. i don't remember the same hype back then when floyd fought baldomir, and both, marcos and tata are from the same place, santa fe
Yeah he did.
Well, Amir Khan started the process, I mean who can forget that first round where Khan almost bust maidanas liver and he was writhing in the floor in agony.
Floyd,Maidana nor Khan will ever have the balls to step in the ring with Golovkin
For sure. I think anyone who fought Floyd or Manny during these recent years got some residual fame from that fight that they didn't have previously. Anytime you are getting 24/7 level coverage in boxing your gonna get more attention & in particular when your fighting the biggest names in the sport. And obviously Maidana wasn't really a 24/7 caliber guy like Oscar or Shane before fighting Floyd thus I think he got a big fame bump from Floyd.
yes, that's something i can agree with 100%..
Maidana was an already know warrior. Beat Ortiz, humiliated and easily solved a minor problem. But his first fight with Floyd, made him a household name. He hit Floyd all over the place, used Floyd's nut sack as a speed bag!
War Maidana!!
Well, i think Maidana had a bigger part to play. His performance in the first fight made his stock rise a lot on the biggest stage he'd ever been on.
So maybe the fact he fought Floyd give him a platform, but it was down to Maidana himself that people were talking about him.
Not many people really talked about Guerrero after Floyd made him look like a club fighter did they?
