I've been getting some great suggestions on fights we can compare and score
this particular fight caught my attention because the action and the high stakes.
I cant remember who I had winning but it will be fun scoring this barnburner
feel free to add your scorecards and I'll add mine up soon
I could have handled a draw but they robbed Sergio imo. I never even considered that fight to be a loss just like I still don't consider the Bradley draw to Chaves legit....albeit it was on paper.
In totality, Martinez landed the harder shots and bloodied him. Did way more damage. But on a round by round basis, Williams was just outworking him in many cases and Sergio wasn't doing anything significant. I think Williams pressure and volume started to wear him down in the mid to late rounds. Sergio is one of the best conditioned fighters in history and this is the only fight where you really saw him gassed in the later rounds.

Williams was the name guy at that time and Sergio took the fight on two weeks' notice and STILL worked him over. I thought Sergio deserved to win, a draw worst, worst case but hype pays the bills.
Off the top of my head I remember there being 3 rounds that were razor thin. A much lesser man would've scored them 10-10.
On a similar note, I always find it funny when people say "115-113?! That's way too close, what were you watching? I scored it 116-112" Lmao. It's one round away.
What?? We disagree on ONE round??? You can't score fights and don't know sh*t about boxing. NSB man I tell you. Smh.
Close fight. We're just a round off. My guess is 9 or 12.

I had it a draw too..my bad guys for taking so long to post....same score as you 114-114 but if i had to choose who i'd rather have been, id have rather been Martinez.....Williams had a great chin...he ate some clean azz punches and kept coming

I scored it live 115-113 for Sergio. Haven't scored it since, I gotta do that soon
What I liked about this fight is that 99% of the defense in this fight came from head and body movement. Both fighters rarely attempted to block punches with their gloves , which may partly explain why it was so much fun.
Hiding at a soccer field... It's ironic how stupid people are when it comes to realizing how late he started and the fact the man fought people naturally bigger than him, his whole career. What is interesting, Martinez could have fought at 154lb divison but went to middleweight seemingly to be destroyed but did the exact opposite.
yea I heard, also he was a cyclist
he wouldve cleaned house at 154
He should get credit for being outsized in his championship days...he wa sa natural junior middleweight
That was a very close fight and really Sergio's coming out party as the man at 160. I felt Paul Williams won the fight but wouldn't have been mad if Sergio got the decision.
