It's Haymon vs HBO so Kovalev will refuse to negotiate.
They tried to make the fight already? And I don't see Kovalev 'refusing to negotiate', it isn't his style. He fights anybody, anywhere and proves it too. It's possible to make the fight, anything is possible man.
Negative.
At the moment, it's between Ward and a kid named David Benevidaz in a year and a half or so.
David Benevidez talent isn't even close to Beterbiev, Kovalev or Ward. Too wide, too slow IMO.
it's a beast of a fight. Beterbiev has a great chance....but
Kovalev is just such a great boxer. It's not the power. He is just a tremendous boxer. Love his jab, distances, bit awkward but effective footwork, just a great boxer.
With his skills, he would be competitive at any division.
No not right now, I think Kovalev uses hims length early, work from the outside and then stops him late.
Need to see Beterbiev after his Shoulder Injury and also he really hasn't been tested yet. Cloud and Campillo are decent names but neither tested him.
right now I don't see it, he could be another pulev or chakhiev if he doesn't improve. the former also had impressive amateur resumes and had great power and good speed but are flawed pros
Idk about all that. Believe he fought in June, had a fight scheduled for late Oct. when he injured his shoulder. I believe he had surgery in November & his promoter has him lined up now to fight in March/April. I mean any surgery is serious, but this wasn't an overly long recovery or seemingly THAT serious of a surgery.
Ah really? I thought he got injured in July, must have got wires crossed. If the surgery was in Nov and he's looking to return around Mar/Apr then you're right it's probably not a very serious injury, possibly a tendon related issue. I thought it might be severe rotator cuff, dislocated shoulder or clavicle etc.. but by the sounds of it probably not that bad so he might be back to 100% quicker than expected.
Is this the same slow, plodding Beterbiev who was decked by some journeyman and outboxed for lengthy spells in his last fight? A punchers chance at best.
I don't even rate Beterbiev in fact he is one of the weakest Eastern Euro's in the division. He is decent at mid-range I don't see much else.
Beterbeiv got injured in training though and after only 9 pro fights he's been out of the ring for 7 months with no opponent scheduled. So we can probably assume that it was a fairly serious shoulder injury which needed a lengthy recovery time. There is a chance he might not be the same fighter when he returns.
Beterbiev has a shot, in the future. He needs to fight 3 or more fights against top 10.
Kov is at the top of his game right now, it is going to take someone that can take punches for 12 rounds to win. Beterbiev just doesn't have the rounds and experience to go at him yet.
Beterbiev passes the eye test, he has some good skills. Need to see more development, before Kov fight.
When is Beterbiev going to fight? He has been out a while.
Man I'm just very excited for artur he has been impressive in the few fights he has hopefully he fights better competition when he comes back
Artur beat up cloud way more impressive than even Adonis did
Same! I'm excited to see him fight anyone honestly, I'd love to see him fight Shabranskyy
I think Al is going to save Stevenson for Beterbiev, then clash the two russians after he milks some fights off Beterbiev of course...
I don't think so. Kovalev has transformed since he first entered the pros.. he fights completely different, he's more mobile and aggressive. At the same time cautious too. Beterbiev is quite stiff, a slow heavy handed fighter that I can't picture handling Kovalev. He's capable of going down too and Kovalev's power is unreal.
Beterbiev is good, probably the only guy who can beat Kovalev..
