People have this false perception that Golovkin is this great warrior who has great integrity and fears nothing. Mr. "Kazakh Thunder". Mr. "Most Feared Man in Boxing". Mr. "Bad Boy". Mr. "Stronger than Tyson". Mr. "I'll fight anyone from 154-168".
But a real man is someone who stays true to his word. What happened when a simple, quiet man from Oakland by the name of SOG Ward called Gennady's bluff and held Gennady to his word? GGG, the "most feared man in boxing", backed the FK down.
Read on to see the irrefutable proof.
First, Golovkin tells Kellerman that he would fight ANYONE FROM 154-168, including Andre Ward specifically, in the following video.
Skip to 33:00 of the video, and watch until 33:30.
Starting at 33:00 of the interview, Max Kellerman asks Golovkin:" You said that you'd fight anyone from 154-168. Who do you have in mind?"
Golovkin: "Doesn't matter who. I'm ready!"
Max Kellerman asks him AGAIN:" Would you fight ANYONE from 154-168?"
Golovkin: "Everybody, doesn't matter who. ANYONE. OF COURSE!"
Max Kellerman:" If Andre Ward beats Chad Dawson, you'd fight him?"
Golovkin:" Yes!!!!! Why not? Andre Ward is a good man, and I beat Andre Dirrel (amateurs). I'm ready now!"
Not only does Golovkin say that he would fight anyone from 154-168, he specifically says that he will fight Andre Ward.
We know what happens next. Ward destroys Dawson, becomes p4p #2, and answers Golovkin's challenge. All of a sudden, Andre Ward becomes this big bad bully/coward who is picking on little guys, when Golovkin HIMSELF issued the challenge.
What did the great fearless warrior Golovkin do once Ward called his bluff?
He backed the fk down like a PUSSIE. "Andre Ward is too much for me". :loser:
Skip to 0:39 of this video to see him pussie out.
"No. Andre Ward is too much for me. Andre is Andre. Me is me." ;)
There is simply no way that any rational Golovkin fan can spin this. I'm not hating on Golovkin, but facts are facts. Golovkin called out Ward, and ran when Ward responded. There is no way that any of us can blame Ward for the drama that took place next. Fact: GOLOVKIN DUCKED WARD.
Conclusion: Golovkin is not this fearless, honest warrior that everyone thinks he is. The man started out as a street bully/thug on the streets of Karagandy, beating up smaller men in front of their girlfriends and intimidating random guys on the streets. He has built a reputation in boxing by knocking out absolute BUMS. Because he speaks little English, he now pretends to be a good and respectful guy, knowing that it's the only way insecure male fans in the US will like him.
His resume is a joke compared to Ward, Canelo, Floyd, or even Cotto. His best win to date is Daniel Geale, a guy who Cotto dominated and knocked out just as quick. His ethnicity/looks and fake nice guy persona are the main reasons behind his hype.
But what happened when a real man from Oakland by the name of Andre Ward stared Goliath right in the eye? The bully backed down.
It does, however, raise the question of why Golovkin called out Ward in the first place. I'll include possible theories in the poll.
Discuss.
I don't see what's so difficult to understand.
Really, no need to bring out speech acts, glottology and what not.
GGG is on a hype train, he's starting to make good money and Ward would be likely beat him, which at this stage might kill the hype.
It doesn't mean GGG is a bum, it simply means that Ward is a bigger man, a better, more accomplished boxer and it's hard to land on him.
GGG would be the favorite against Canelo or Cotto, he'd be the underdog against Ward.
The "i'll fight anybody" bs is just that, GGG is neither the first nor the last to come out with that. At least he's honest about " Ward being too much", it was too much yesterday, is too much today and will most likely stay too much tomorrow (unless he looks like total crap in his next fight, then perhaps).
I believe they didn't expect Ward to call his bluff. They knew he had a legal dispute that was ongoing and it was the perfect time to use his name.
Now that he signed with Roc Nation they are like "holy shi*. What have we done?"
That's why you hear different stories from different team members every day. And when Ward confronted Loeffler, he linked out and placed the blame on Abel Sanchez.
Or maybe he was more willing to take risks as he was a much smaller name back then, now he's on the precipice of a big money big exposure fight with Cotto/nelo.
He'll call Ward's bluff after the Cotto/Nelo fight (if it happens) or after he gets the WBC strap and we'll see who really wants the fight and who's really been fooling the people.
They even tried the CW , Manny taught them how to work it .
You sure? What about Floyd making Canelo fight at 152? Coward Floyd was a 154 champ and had fought Cotto and DLH at full 154 but he fought Canelo at 152... that's being a coward.
You don't fool me. You anti GGG's were supposed to say that GGG wasn't very good as a fighter. Now the critic is that his Media/PR management is not good. At least you admit you can't criticize him as a fighter.
You butthurt dude. He's a phenomenal fighter. But Ward called is bluff. It is what it is.
Spare me. You just used Canelo CW offer from 2011 to try justify Floyd's CW demand from 2013. No credibility
There y'all go with your obsession with Floyd again. The point was, Floyd called Canelo's bluff not the other way around. What you say can be used against you in the court of law.
They took a page out of pacquiaos playbook. Call out a better fighter with no intentions of making the fight = create boogie man persona
They even tried the CW , Manny taught them how to work it .
I wish people would just forget Ward, he is a has been no fan base, bum.
Nobody CARES! He is a Light Heavyweight, let him fight guys his size like Kovalev or Stevenson or Beterbiev. Golovkin may move up to 68 within the next year or so, by then Ward will have retired or will be mowing Haymons yard for a living.( No seriously, he will be a boxing analyst which he is very good at)
Ward didn't do shit. Watch the post fight interview of Dawson/Hopkins II, Chad called out and offered to go down and fight Ward at 168. He said he could make it easily.
On another note blaming GGG not being fluent in English to him not actually saying he'd fight anyone at 168 is some next level trolling. That's definitely reaching there. I like both guys but looking at it objectively one has stepped up in class and the other has the ability to but is refusing. Bottom line.
1) The 154-168 comment was made more than 3 years ago when nobody knew who GGG was. Economics of boxing.
2) Ward has no business left in 168, so yes, he's stepping up because he has no choice.
3) Golovkin has a LOT of business left at MW - he's JUST getting his shots at the title holders of the division he fought in his whole life. There's no business reason for him to step up besides 100 forum trolls.
4) Saying "he has the ability but is refusing" is severely misleading on several fronts - his natural weight is way below 168. His 30 day weigh in for Lemieux was 165, and his rehydration weigh ins for the last 3 years have been 173, 170 and 168. Coming up 8 for GGG would be difficult.
He's NOT refusing to come up - he offered to come up to 164 and split profits against Ward, which in my opinion is more than fair. He's meeting the B-side fighter at dead even in weights and profits. Ward's the one responsible for not making the fight.
Jealous that your boy can't even read properly in his native language? I thought so.
Yea because he reads for me.
Jealous that your boy is a quitter and has 0 heart?
You would think ward would have no problem going to 160...after all he made dawson come down to 168.

You've never seen me criticize Ward for draining Dawson? You're sadly mistaken young emotional one.
Spare me. You just used Canelo CW offer from 2011 to try justify Floyd's CW demand from 2013. No credibility
Lol but I thought giggis spoke like 20 languages fluently and English was one of them
Jealous that your boy can't even read properly in his native language? I thought so.
It's not even about ducking. It's about his team saying stupid comments in the media to look like big bad monsters but when called out on their comments not backing them up. What is so hard to understand about this?
You don't fool me. You anti GGG's were supposed to say that GGG wasn't very good as a fighter. Now the critic is that his Media/PR management is not good. At least you admit you can't criticize him as a fighter.
And when he said that, HBO approached both guys, he said yes, Ward said no, I got an excuse. Things have changed a lot since, GGG is doing great business in his division. Ward is not, yet wants 50/50 next year lol
I have no doubt HBO and Roc would eagerly cooperate to make the fight happen. This whole claim that Ward called GG's bluff is bogus. Didn't happen. Ward didn't do anything.
GG can say what he wants, but if Ward can't even make up his mind, what's the point?
Of course, fans want REAL negotiations to take place, but there wasn't any.
I just find it funny that the same people who now use Ward's promotional problems as a reason the fight couldn't happen back then, were the ones saying that Ward was able to fight, but it was an excuse that Golovkin and his team were using, while still saying they wanted to fight but knowing it couldn't happen.
are you really trying to break down and analyze a video from a guy who said me is me? ward speaks english fluently and said he would fight anyone at 168-175 then duckd bute, stevenson, froch, and kovalev. ward said he would be heavyweight champ by 2016 and could beat klitschko. ward never actually tried to fight ggg as we found out. it was just a publicity stunt after ggg already had a fight signed. if ggg was ducking ward why did he offer ward the fight? makes no sense. ward said he woudl fight at 160 then turned tail and ran when a fight at 164 was offered. ggg has much more ammo against ward then vice versa. all you have is me is me!
