a lot of posters here said even some respectful poster who know his boxing said Postol use too much clinches??!!
yes there are some cliches and postol use it as one of tactical plan but nothing excessive. postol look natural during clinches not forcing his power like mayweather or wlad and stop when ref shout break.
and people seem to forget about Mathysse blatant rabbit punches which is more dangerous foul. he throw that rabbit punches all night long and with evil intention.

Those punches to the side/back of Postols head were a result of Postol constantly clinching and turning his head.
Problem with clinching nowaday's is that boxers are using it as part of their defensive strategy despite it being "illegal" and its going unpunished.
More than 3 clinches per round should get a stern warning. If the fighter continues to clinch then it should be a point deduction. I guarantee you fighters would fight more and hold less if this were implemented.
I have no issue with clinching when it's against an opponent who barrels in head first, rabbit punches and generally fights dirty.
There's a difference between clinching against a mauler and doing a Klitschko.
I tend to agree with this.

well... get a red card in football when someone is about to score a goal and you get sent off, leaving your team with one less man, and a penalty and you're screwed. Keep repeating it and you're done. Same goes for clinching as a tactic, or lowblows, or any other illegal move. In all honesty you should get a warning, then you start loosing points and if you keep it up you get DQ. Simple as that. Lets not make something easy more complicated than it should be. Then again we have refs. that give penalties to divers, we have box refs. that protect favorites and such, but again, it shouldnt happen. I dont see it as the "spice", I see it as the dark, corrupt side that ruins sports. In the case of box its pretty bad at times.
it was certainly dark and corrupt but i still laugh at rooney when he get sent-off in 2006 WC also unconsiously reply Ronaldo's wink with my own. eventhough i was rooting for england at that time
Interesting post, great question. But maybe you should ask about the official rules for clinching???
I want to read those.
Good post.
nah man idk myself, ask guys at training or history forum they are the boxing otakus in this forum. my head hurts looking at their every post.

As far as I'm concerned a fighter can rabbit punch all they want when they are clinched excessively. Cheat me, I'll cheat you.
Postol's clinching wasn't that terrible though. It was early, but Reiss gave a hard warning, Postol stopped, and the clinching wasn't too much afterwards.
yep, reiss told him he is punching you behind the head because you don't stop holding, he warned both
I always blame the ref with the clinching....
Never blame the fighter,,, these guys are fighting for their lives, any tactics necessary..
The ref is the one in control... needs to warn, warn, point deduct, point deduct, DQ
It wasn't pretty to watch in the first few rounds but I don't have anything against what Postol did. It's a fight. If it's working for you then why would you stop?
It's just funny seeing certain people cry about clinching when it suits them.
hey every pro athletes push the rule boundaries all the time. from diving in soccer to wasting time at opponent's serve in tennis. when the official not called it foul than it's not foul.
it is unsportman like behaviour but is one of many spices that make profesional sport entertaining.

yeah that was nasty rabbit punches i think it was round 2 or 3 then the ref break them apart and warn postol about turning his head low when clinching and didn't warn lucas at all.
i was "WTF?!" :lol1:
That's how it's supposed to be done, If Postol wants to use that clinch without getting rabbit punched all he has to do is put his guard up with the free hand. really simple. He's putting himself in a position where Matthysse can only land a rabbit punch to the head.
That's the point: Boxing rules specifically dont allow clinching as a tactical plan.
If you want to clinch learn to grapple and go do MMA.

Postol got the job done ugly in the first part, Jack kept it in check, I don't see the problem myself. I don't believe LMM had any evil intentions, I just think Postol has that same tendency Wlad has to turn a legal scoring blow into a rabbit punch by turning the back of his head into it. Cintron used to kind of do that too.

Oh man, I'd take a short right hand to the mid section over any rabbit punch if I'm held, no question about it. That or any short hook to the body up close, those are the kind of punches that will allow one to ease their way into a fight.
