The latest salvo in the “Questionable Performance Enhancing Drug” storyline in today’s professional baseball landscape was this interesting statement from Jonathan Papelbon last week; he and other Boston teammates frequently were injected with the drug Toradol by team doctors when they were feeling “run-down” or overly fatigued in order to get a quick pick-me-up for a game. Apparently Toradol had the effect of giving players a four hour window of feeling “pretty damn good” and it was used by a portion of the Boston clubhouse. Its also in use in many other clubhouses (though apparently not in Philadelphia, who told Papelbon his Toradol days were over).
Ok, how is Toradol not a Performance Enhancing Drug? It certainly seems to qualify based on WADA’s “Three Criteria” for PEDs:
1.The capacity to enhance performance (clearly, as discussed by Papelbon)
2.Use can result in negative health consequences (absolutely; Jon Lester suffered some of them and had a serious internal bleeding issue, and now Boston is reportedly reviewing its use of the drug)
3.Violate the spirit of sports. (opinion based .. but after reading what Toradol can do, how can you NOT argue that its use violates the “spirit of sports?”)

In an intriguing feature included in tonight’s new Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel (HBO, 10:oo p.m. ET/PT), Andrea Kremer explores the NFL’s “magic potion” that “masks pain from head to toe.”
The wonder drug goes by the name of Toradol. It’s not a narcotic, it’s not addictive, it’s legal to use.
And plenty of players are using it.
Former NFL center Jeremy Newberry tells Kremer that, when he played for the 49ers, players lined up for a dose of Toradol before games. “I’ve seen lines of 20 or 30 of them standing there waiting for a shot,” Newberry.

But the Super Bowl? With little hesitance, Holt asked for and received a Toradol shot.
"I felt like new money," Holt said. "You get that shot and you feel like you're 18, 19 years old. It's like a sheet of armor. I was a new man."
Several hours later, after making seven catches for 109 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown grab, Holt was also a Super Bowl champion with the Rams edging the Titans 23-16.
Everything about the day felt great. Until the Toradol faded.
"It was very, very, very painful once that medication wore off," Holt said. "When you get that Toradol shot, you feel like you have a whole new body on you.
You can choose to believe what you want in the internet. At the end of the day. Toradol is an anti inflammatory. Nothing more. It releaves inflammation.
I had Toradol given to me when my back went out. It works good. Its not a wonder drug. It takes some time to reduce certain ailments. Why you are trying to make something more out of what it really is, is kinda obtuse.

Floyd tries to get an advantage in every fight which is ironic considering what he would say why he avoided Manny for so many years "All I want is a fair fight" What a joke Floyd turned out to be.

You people are something, man. Floyd won in the ugliest way possible, true. But you act like he dominated.
So you're telling me that if the roles were reversed and each fighter fought like the other that night, you'd be going around saying that Floyd got schooled by Manny?
No. You'd be arguing that manny was cheating, or fighting scared (as floyd's own dad exclaimed in damn near tears), etc...
I'm a huge manny fan, and he lost that night, no doubt. But dominated mentally or physically? Please.
Looks like I was wrong. It appears to extend to his fans also.
floyd gets caught cheating but larry is pretending manny is a cheater still. fanboys what else can you say

i believe he has used torodol before many fights.

Exactly. So just say you had injury before hand. Show evidence of an injury before hand. Then let the commission decide on fight night to go with it. This way at least the judging world can then say, ah, his rotator cuff was messed up and for years...at least that's honorable. It's not a 100 yes or no questionaire...
Or, instead, we show the world all these ridiculous inconsistent lies or excuses...but as we all know...it's the first time Top Rank has looked so sharp in making up excuses.
This is why everybody is just face palmed. Top Rank knew it. HBO knew it. So they come up with Hauser for malicious retaliation. Quite simple.
Regarding the IV, I have some info that is going to smash everyone's reasoning towards Floyd but I am saving that for a rainy day!
You choose.
i really like this one....

oh oh, saving for a rainy day! seems like more of buying time..tmt..tue, medication technicians...
I hear you, and I agree in part. But both fighters reduced each other to the lowest punch output in either fighter's entire career, no?
I mean, if I'm being objective, I have to consider what Floyd was reduced to as well.
It seemed to me that both recognized the threat that the other posed, and both realized that their entire careers would be measured (by many) by the outcome of that fight.
I just fail to see a dominant performance by Floyd here. And I'm sure manny genuinely felt the same way after. I'm sure he went in expecting to take punishment at some point. Both fighters walked away unscathed
There is no doubting the class that was in that ring , when match racing great racehorses or Greyhounds or people they generally cross the line very close to each other .
If Manny or Floyd were in with lesser opponents that night it probably would have a been a clear 120-110 win , the thing I hate is how the fanboys in here try to belittle the winner , they are both special champions somebody was right somebody was wrong it would be nice for people to just face up to that .
After what you wrote in that first paragraph, please look in the mirror. The dumbest part is a Floyd fan thinking that relatively speaking "Floyd whipped Manny" and use the Marquez fight example in the same sentence.
Sigh. Don't pull strawman tactics considering my last post was particularly and empirically based on Chino, not Marquez.
If you want to talk Marquez we can talk Marquez and relating to Floyd. But if you want to debate why Chino's initial Majority Decision overrules Pac's Unanimous Decision then let's debate. Don't run away and bring up Marquez...
I already told you Floyd beat the man that beat the man. I admit your attempt is a good sneaky one... as if Floyd's boxing lesson on Marquez wasn't as good as putting Pac to sleep. lol. They were both great fights from a boxing fans perspective!
My initial post that you responded to was on Marquez/Floyd not Maidana. Still, I said what I said about Maidana since you brought it up. FLoyd got the Nevada judges to give him the win. What a surprise.
To bring up the version of Marquez FLoyd fought is a joke and still, Floyd was not taking any chances against the guy that was fighting at 130 about a year before.
Marquez said it best:
"If that fight is proposed and the conditions are acceptable, then of course . But we all know how things are done when fighting Mayweather in Las Vegas. In that city the officials protect him, let him do everything. Fighting him there is a burden,"
"Look, do you know how Mayweather can be beaten? Only by knockout, and how can you knock out an opponent who does not want to fight, who doesn't throw punches, and hits you with a jab and you may have won the round but they still give it to him?"
You people are something, man. Floyd won in the ugliest way possible, true. But you act like he dominated.

When Manny is supposed to be the most aggressive thrashing machine on the planet and for 5 yrs his fans are screaming he will over whelm and destroy Floyd .
Then yes it is a domination when Floyd can shut Manny down to a peep nobody has been able to do that to Manny over his entire career , look at it from the point of what Manny was reduced to , not from a destruction point of view , thats the thing with being objective you have got to look closely at the fighters in question and what fighter executed his game plan and what fighter failed totally .
Floyd did what he always does , Manny could not do sht , thats a dominate win to Floyd .
