A Lefty throws Right hooks all the time if it feels like your going to rip your shoulder off you have a lousy coach he's not teaching you proper technique
My old trainer said there was no such thing as a right hook ..He said it was either a right hand or it wasn't ..What are you doing wrong maybe it's your technique
Straight right hand, overhand right, sweeping right, right cross, right hook, looping right, ect...I think each one deserves it's own definition but some may just think it's all a matter of semantics.

As an orthodox fighter you shouldn't really throw hooks with your right hand, it takes longer to reach the opponent and is easier to counter. Left hand for hooks, right hand for straight punches.
from far away it is not because it leaves you open and off balance if you throw it powerfully, up close i okay or from far you should turn it into an overhand right.
It is a punch that leaves you wide open from an orthodox stance from the outside. Hard to land and easy to counter is not a punch that should be used that often from most fighters.
Up close it can be used better because it is harder to take advantage in that situation.
If you fight orthodox, it can work with great success when you're fighting on the inside.
Pretty much is exactly how I feel about it.
Probably my favourite punch. From the southpaw stance.
Which is basically a left hook for an orthodox boxer. It is probably because it is closer to the target and you can shift your weight into it as you rotate easier while hooking with your power hand causes you to shift your weight away from your lead foot and tempts you to square up as an attempt to maintain your balance.
I have heard this before. From an orthodox stance it is more awkward to throw than a left hook.
I agree. I can throw a left hook in close proximity and at a longer range but the right at range leaves me off balance. I have kind of short arms though, not t-rex short but not Floyd long either. Sure it's different for each person but the straight right feels much more natural of a punch to throw imo.

It's a proper punch and a great powerful punch. Any coach who tells his fighter not to throw a right hook is taking away a valuable weapon. It's a punch Hopkins uses often so that should be good enough for anybody. Southpaws can use a left hook equally as well. Who can forget the monster left hook Pacquiao flattened Hatton with.

My left hook is probably my saddest punch :lol1:
work on your left hook like a lunatic. best punch in the business from a right stance. joe frazier a one handed punching bag became great with it

Trainers right bro, never under any circumstances throw a right hook. People have died doing that sh.t.
While your at it, don't throws lefts either or punches in general, just nudge people gently with your face. Maybe a kick if you feel up to it, those are the only true punches.
If I recall correctly Floyd put in a few good right hooks to the body on Berto. Set him up with jab up or down to expose the lower rib cage/torso and slams it in there.
Tyson has an almost infamous right hook to the body, right uppercut to the head combination.
The right hook is generally thrown to the body and comes in wide since its coming from the power hand. The left hook is good because your left hand is already stationed to either attack/defend close to the opponent.
