Two of Boxing biggest names are set to retire both Mayweather & Pacquiao....While UFC has just added more Star power with Ronda Rousey & Conor McGregor; Can GGG,Canelo,Verdejo,& Errol Spence carry the torch or will boxing be out hustled by UFC?
Is Ronda Rousey a bigger star than Canelo ?
dude, she was even a famous boxer before going to MMA :dunce:
I remember Holly Holm very well just fuked the spelling of her name up, I do that a lot lol
ufc is dying imo
You're basing that on what exactly? They just had a PPV that did 850k buys, and followed it up with a PPV that did about a million buys or more.
They have a show coming up in Dallas that is pegged to break all kinds of records.
The UFC Is doing great.
The question is how will boxing do now that Mayweather is gone and Pacquiao is not far behind him.
i would put money on wlad actually. guy would not be clueless he actually is a hell of a kick boxer so its not like hes clueless in other forms of fighting. the only chance they would have is submission but does that really make u the baddest man on the planet? not in my book it dont to me if ur trying to prove ur the baddest man on planet bending someones arm backwards not really doing it for me
If you put Wlad and a top 10 UFC HW in a room and close the door, the UFC HW is the one walking out of there under his own power. Plain and simple.
Boxing is a great sport, it's a sport I love, but in terms of combat it's a VERY limited sport. You attack with two hands, and that's it. Compare that to muay thai, where you attack with two hands, two feet, two knees, and two elbows. Or MMA, where you attack with all those things and you also grapple and can break limbs and choke people unconscious. A guy just using his two hands is going to be helpless against that kind of variety of attack. These are simply the facts.
The problem is UFC stars are out shining boxing stars....
No they are not...I don't like Boxing and UFC comparisons, it's just so stupid but in terms of marketable stars, boxing on a global scale has Wlad, Cotto, Canelo, Khan and a handful of others.
UFC has...possibly Rousey and then who? Connor? None of thoseg uys match anything close to the earnings, viewing figures or PPV buys of the boxing names. It's simple mathematics.
That is called an outlier. One fight out of how many? UFC consistently does 1M buys a show. That thumps boxing.
They haven't broken 1 million this year. Their outliers are 700-900k
Yes it does dip****. UFC draws more PPV buys than boxing. You cant point to the money a fighter makes since UFC was smart enough not to let the fighters get the lions share of the money.
im pretty sure ufc ppvs do not come close to boxing .....they have 25 ppvs a year that MIGHT add up to one floyd or manny fight lol
You have no idea just how retarded this comment sounds! You are actually saying that UFC was smart enough to not allow the guys who actually who put their lives on the line in the ring to have the lion's share of the money.
I think Dana White and the UFC brass were clever to keep a salary cap on their employees. From a business stand point, it makes perfect sense.
Everybody knows that Dana White and the UFC executives are not the draw. They are not the A-Side, they are not the B-Side. They're just a bunch of rich guys who collect money off of the risk their fighters take.
It's very similar to a Floyd Mayweather approach to business. Floyd takes the lion's share and pays peanuts to his opponent in comparison to what he gets paid. Mayweather's opponent's are taking just as much a risk to their lives in the ring as Floyd Mayweather, but that still doesn't stop people from thinking Mayweather deserves a 90/10 split and 100% PPV sales.
Of course, Floyd actually goes in the ring to fight, but in theory, Dana White pretty much practices the same business model employed by Floyd Mayweather.
GO TMT!

Fighters, whether in MMA or in boxing, are nothing more than a product. Promoters are only interested in the bottom line, not the health or financial health of the fighters. If they could have the fighters compete in last man standing style of fights, and if those fights brought in more money, trust me, that is what promoters would be selling.
Do you think Haymon is paying his fighters over the top dollars because he cares about their future? He is paying them because he gets a cut of every purse. The more the fighter makes, the more Haymon makes.
Think the owners of football teams are all broken up over the discovery of severe brain injuries related to the sport? They don't give a crap. All that they care about is that they cannot be sued over it.
And the fans certainly do not care if someone gets hurt or killed in the ring. Give them swords and shields, let them fight to the death and you will get even more fans following the sport.
May-Pac did 4.4 million buys at $100 a pop. What are you talking about.
That is called an outlier. One fight out of how many? UFC consistently does 1M buys a show. That thumps boxing.
Explain how? UFC stars don't make more money! They don't draw larger crowds! No one in UFC has ever drawn as much attention as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio did earlier this year! And, unless you are stupid enough to believe the PPV numbers that Dana White gives you, they don't draw bigger PPV audiences!
So, exactly how are they outshining boxing stars? Oh, wait! UFC stars have been talking more s...t over the last few months about Floyd Mayweather than boxing stars. Is that what you mean?[/QUOTE
Other than the Floyd - Pac fight, which was an anomaly never before seen in the sports world and most likely never to be seen again in our lifetimes, when was the last boxing PPV to come close to 1 million buys? When will the next one be? Do you think Cotto - Canelo, currently the biggest fight boxing has to offer, will get more buys than Rousey will in her next PPV in Australia?
We will be able to compare them very soon and we will discover if the current biggest fight in the boxing world can top a UFC card headlined by TWO women's fights.

MMA has been bigger and better then boxing for years. Wake up people. Look at the numbers. Boxing is dying. That is a fact. I wish I could say otherwise.
Plus the ufc makes all the big fights as where in boxing guys like Manny duck Floyd for 10 years and everybody ducking GGG.
You're so right bro.
My favourite MMA fights are Anderson Silva vs GSP, prime UFC champ Chuck vs prime Pride Champ Silva and Fedor vs Couture.
Many people don't find arm breaks and joint locks entertaining or exciting. But the fact is, they work and are highly effective.
The objective is to win. It doesn't matter how you win, but as long as you win. Just like Floyd Mayweather. Not a very fan friendly style, but he gets the job done and wins and nobody beat him. He deserves to the rep as best boxer of his generation and era even if he closed out his career with boring decisions and very little action.
The same thing applies to who the baddest man on the planet is. Doesn't matter if they win by knockout, submission or judges score cards. A win is a win.
I'd put my money on a fighter who is well-rounded in multiple disciplines vs a fighter who only knows how to do one thing. There's just too many advantages.
Electronic Arts dumped their Fight Night boxing game and replaced it with a UFC game. That is as good an indication of popularity as you are going to find.
