160 is very weak devison and one of the most political screwd up devsion
GGG has never fought a champion and probaly wont fight the other main guys peter jacobs etc ..
If he does beat david lex what does it do for his career?
Super Middleweight was overrated looking back on it, Ward became the GOAT for unifying that division.
Seriously, I mean who is left out of that bunch, Abraham and Ward? Dirrell faked his career away and Ward wanted no parts of him and vice versa. Taylor is a retired crazy man now, Froch retired, Kessler retired, and Abraham has fought the same opponent 23 times in a row while hiding out in Germany collecting checks.
He'll get a fair amount of credit for it. If it was so easy to do it would have been done. Martinez, Sturm, Geale and all those other belt holders couldn't do it.
Geale unified the WBA and IBF titles but vacated to fight Mundine instead of GGG.
If he is able to fight all the current champions and beat them, he deserves all the credit in the world because it's not his fault that the division is weak. But the real question is if he unifies the MW division then what next?
I think GGG deserves credit for unifying the division if he eventually does so. I just don't like it when he and his groupies use 'unifying the division" to justify why he isn't moving up to fight Ward when he clearly didn't have a problem going up to 168 for other fighters.
Ward is fighting tune ups, dipsh*t.
He was never going to fight GGG in Oct.
Ward MIGHT fight in Nov(maybe) and that will be a tune up.
The strengths of a division is all based on opinion. There are the rare exception but when comes to divisions like Middleweight, Super Middle, Lighy Heavy, And Crusierweigt there's no difference.
Popularity doesn't equal better fighters.

If he does beat david lex what does it do for his career? not much
Quillen cant make the weight, Cotto isn't a moonlighting as a middleweight so I hop Canelo wins, Lemieux is exciting but limited skill wise
Unifying at 160 will be him just doing what he is supposed to as the MONSTER of his divison
He should get a lot of credit for that, but also his team should because politically, it is almost impossible to do. GGG has a chance to do it, but the wildcard is if DiBella will let it happen, seeing that he is Andy Lee's promoter and DiBella is a haymon employee that will do whatever he says.
Guys deserve credit for unifying. Of course, you're going to look at who they faced to do so, who the other champions were.
Some division are going to be harder to unify than others.
At 160, the champs are GGG, Lee/Saunders, Lemeiux and Cotto/Canelo.
Personally, i think if you grab all those belts, than you have done a good job.

Obviously much less credit than unifying a strong division. GGG is a great fighter amongst a bunch of rif raf, cowardly businessman, and blown up junior middleweights. After he wipes out the Cotto vs Canelo winner hopefully he will test himself in the super middleweight division.
"He's never fought a champion."
He's fighting a champion in literally his next fight. And he hasn't fought a champion because they dropped their belts to avoid him.
