Involved in beef wars with current and former boxers? The latest exchange being with Adrien Broner tonight. I find it childish and a bit distasteful that Dan does this as a senior journalist for the most popular sports network in the world. It seems insecure at best....I think if that were a prominent NFL journalist the backlash would be through the roof
What do you think?
Fat Dan is a product of a joke sport. All the best journalists are covering real sports, sports that actually matter. Not C-level sports with C-level athletes.
Have we forgot about Howard Cosslle and Larry Merchant ? I don't necessarily care for Fat Dan but I like it when journalists call out athletes on their bs
Old school sports journalists weren't afraid of upsetting anyone. Even the greatest tended to be very blunt and forthright in their criticism. They didn't live in an era where supposed writers were terrified of writing anything remotely critical so as not to risk their press credentials.

Fat Dan is right so I see no problem here. I thought Broner fancied himself a slick smack talker, well, fire off some witty rebuttal tweets and get some free promo then.
This is what happens when u get picked on all your life abd u finally get some power. Not surprising. He dies himself no favors tho as he's generally not liked by anyone in the industry.
I'm sure it was David Haye that said Rafael was a big mouth on the internet but can't look the people he bad mouths in the eye when they see him in person.
The question is who is a good boxing writer? Dan was cool until this past year and the same with Doug Fischer. Both were really the only two guys who were somewhat knowledgeable about things but they've literally just turned into trolls.
Still it's Broner so on this I could care less.
It rubs me the wrong way.... kind of Kelleman-esque, who is seriously the worst in the business. What right does some rich Jewish kid who had everything handed to him have to talk down to these fighters that put their lives on the line for our entertainment?
I'm forever hoping a fighter eventually knocked him the **** out.
And, yeah. Dan's a prick too. Not as bad, but still a prick.
It was also astonishing for me during his coverage of the mayweather pac negotiations how he always took arum's remarks as facts, as if arum wasn't a guy who had b*llsh*ted the public various times before during the whole process (my favorite was when he said pac couldn't fight floyd in may bc floyd was going to jail but then when floyd came out saying he was available to fight in may arum changed the tune and said pac had not yet healed from a cut suffered in the marquez fight last november -lol- and therefore would not be available for may and then ended up fighting bradley in june), and not to say that he never called out arum in any of his b*llsh*t. Disgraceful.
First off I don't even disagree with what he's saying as far as Broner / Khalil being for a belt but
It's a joke that Fat Dan is even in the position he's in. Espn is the biggest platform for sports there is and this fat slob who can't even walk up a flight of stairs let alone box Constantly talks bad about some of the best in the sport and acts like a complete hack.
He spent years sh.itting on anything Haymon affiliated until the PBC was brought over to ESPN and now he acts like the company yes man he is and eased up.
He knows almost nothing about the sport and does a disservice to it by being in the spot he's in. I read a deadspin article a couple years ago that laid it out perfectly on why Fat Dan is a mediocre corporate whore journalist and I agree with it completely people should check it out
I think he's part of the reason why Youtubers and bloggers have been able to be so successful because you can't get a good opinion from him and it makes hard core fans look else where for their information because it doesn't come from Fat Dan or ESPN.
hes actually been very critical of PBC even after the ESPN deal
I thought boxers didn't care what bloggers and reporters write about them? they shouldn't anyway. I have no problem with that Fatty Dan is doing. Famous people need to be made fun/called out from time to time. Fans do it but you don't see Broner reacting to the many trolls he has. They'll be fine, its just words
Dan isn't afraid to call out the bull**** in boxing, and he has the ESPN machine to back him up. Broner getting a title shot is some straight BS, and Dan calling him out on it is a good thing. These fighters needs ESPN more than they need any one fighter, Dan is the only one that's going to write about them.
Fair enough but I think Dan is only willing to call out the BS in certain situations (i.e., won't call out any BS related to Top Rank/Bob Arum).
Also - I dislike the guy, but don't see what his weight has to do with any of this LOL. Yeah, he could stand to lose weight but whatever...
dan rafael is freaking enormous. i passed him in teh hallway backstage at one of the CT casinos. honest to god, i had to turn to one side while i passed him. he was that fat. it was disgusting to be around a person like that.
they didn't have his media crediential and seat set up, and he acted like it was some kind of disservice to the boxing community. MFer could hardly fit on a folding chair while he waited for them to accommodate his disgusting bulk and childish attitude about where he sat. i half expected that b#ch to fold under his massive booty.
OMG, this is hilarious haha.

My only issue with Dan is his downplaying his relationship with people at TR when its a very close friendship and a place where he goes to get information.
Some of the things he said as quoted by others here are a little over the top for a journalist but he is right to criticize Broner-Khabib for being for a title. Benavidez is the interim and is getting superseded by two guys coming off of loses, which is horse sh1t.
