However Floyd would make less money than his guarantee so he went with PPV. This is from Rafael's Friday chat:

Do you have any inside knowledge of why the cbs idea didn't happen for he floyd fight? Seems like berto might have been an acceptable opponent if the fight had been free on prime time and would have been a big event
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:47 PM)
I've been told CBS and Showtime were ready to do it and so was Haymon. But to make it viable Floyd was going to have to take less money than his guarantee and balked. I do not know if that is certain but it sounds right to me and seems like one of the reasons the fight took so long to announce. You dont announce a major PPV fight 38 days out. But it was delayed and that may have been one of the reasons as they went back and forth.

The play could have had to do with the reported contract extension. Look floyd, you take less now, we get you for fight 50 against a name and you make all the money all over again and we get a cut. free tv would be the ticket for casuals to get interested in his next money fight.
and floyd could have said well i really want to retire or i don't know, so i will take the money guaranteed to be safe. and we may or may not work it out later.
I think he wants to become a free agent
Well, no one's ever busted Berto quick. He has 1 KO loss and that was because he was injured, and it was a late TKO. Mayweather isn't going to bust anything but his hands.
i don't need an education on berto. would saying floyd is going to make easy work of berto been easier for you to understand?
Dan works for ESPN, he has no need to protect anybody as ESPN will always get a seat at the table. Espinoza wants to protect his interests and Showtime sports.
i would believe fat Dan over Espinoza any day.
Personally, I think the fight was proposed for CBS but they couldn't find the sponsors to cover Mayweathers guarantee and make it worth it for the the network so they decided to at least try and break even with PPV money. After the Pac fight they are playing with house money any way and if the think the can make a 50th Jr. fight against Pac next year they will recoup their losses from this one if there is any.
Well Espinzoa said that CBS was barely even explored because there simply wasn't enough time.
They needed 8 months range and only had 8 weeks.
So looks like Fat Dan is talking nonsense, again.
Pretty sure he makes a lot of his stories from "sources" up
I never trust any story that includes unnamed sources. Most of the time those articles turn out to be pure BS.
Definitely a no brainer. $30M/gtd + potential for more beats the **** outta even maybe up to $25M & I doubt the upside was that high. I'd assume it took a minute cuz it is a great idea & a great way to leave the sport & they were probably exploring revenue from advertisers or others.
But hell man even in Mayweather vs Pacquiao, Floyd had to walk into the ring with the Burger King & Freddie & Manny had to take a selfie during there ring walk just for a combined $2M+ from my understanding. Mayweather on free tv gonna have to drive a Prius up a widened ring walk area, eat some McNuggets, take a sip of cognac & hold a billboard for Superman vs Batman all while dressed up as an insurance gecko & maybe get $15M/gtd if they are lucky.
Floyd doesn't drink; turn that to a sip of Coca-Cola and that polar bear in the passenger seat and you'd be onto something.

Berto is the guy you fight if it's going to be a free fight. you bust his ass quick, and your next ppv has everyone drooling. I'd be shocked if this ppv did well.

Can't fault him here, why would he take take less money? im surprised he lulled this over for so long, it's a no brainer. I wouldn't do my job for even 3/4 less money, it's absurd to think he would.
He pulled off the heist of the century with that Pac fight. He made $300 according to him. I think he should have put it on cbs. He can afford to not make another $100 pay day or whatever he will get. He's fighting Andre Berto ffs.
With all his resources this guy never seems to know anything.
Never believe him
I think this fight was a willful spit in the face of the fans by Mayweather
That being said, you're right
Rafael says a lot of things and many times don't pan out or are based on almost nothing
I'd rather pay for it. I can't stand the cheaper public network presentation and commercials. I'm more than fine with paying for a quality PPV production. Plus, Salido vs. Rocky should be very good.
I'm not a Floyd fan as I'm sure most around here are quite aware of, but there is no reason at all that Floyd should have taken less money than what his contract guaranteed him. Haymon could well have afforded to pay whatever the difference between what CBS were ready to put up and what the contract called for.
A contract is a contract. You sign it, you honor the damn thing right to the end.
For the fans. :lol1:
Floyd don't even care about the nut huggers that defend him to hell and back on here.
floyds fans dont defend him because they think they will be personally thanked or rewarded financially....they defend him from the droves of idiots who constantly put him down and never give him credit for anything...the type of idiots that hold him to a higher standard than any other fighter
and spare me "well i hold him to a high standard because he calls himself the best ever"....he can call himself whatever hed like to...you dont have to believe it....if you believe and state it here then you can hold him to ridiculous standards that you dont hold fighters you like to
people are defending from jealous morons ...not because they think floyd cares about them
It's not even being greedy lol. He doesn't pretend to "fight for da people" there's no logical reason to make less money on purpose
I think DLH and everyone knew that DLH vs Forbes was gonna do something like 200-250k at the very least. Instead he said fck it, and just had it on televised HBO.
It's not taking less money on purpose, it's more like saying, 'Hey, i've made 100s of millions of dollars because of boxing fans who hate or love me. Let me give them a free fight against a low level opponent." That's all, that's why I had nothing against this fight when it was announced as a free televised fight, cause I thought it was fair. But now, come on, this is far from fair to his fans.
Floyd is not gonna get into some financial crisis over one non-PPV fight.
Floyd has a guarantee of 32 mil regardless of how this does. So, for him it doesn't matter if no one buys it. Showtime is getting hammered on it though.
Well damn, if that is the case, CBS has money to burn. Literally.
