I was really surprised at how Paulie stood right in front of Garcia, and absorbed a beating. Especially after the Porter beatdown. Truly think that Paulie looked at Garcia's chicken sparring, and concluded that he's not gonna "run" like Peterson did for the first half of that fight.
But it was exactly what Paulie needed to do! Not totally high tail it like Peter son did, but move laterally a little more. Paulie doesn't have the power to stand in front of garcia, he's a stick and move fighter. The fight would have been a lot more competitive, but Paulie came in with this mindset to not be that chicken Garcia was sparring with.
He took the bait, he fought Garcia's fight and got pummeled.

Paulie isn't that good, should've lost to cano.
Paulie legs aren't what they used to be, he was boxing fairly well at the beginning of the fight but the movement wore down pretty quickly. He reminded me of Winky Wright in the Paul Williams fight with the way he was moving about mid-way through the fight. It was as if his legs were just that half-step slower than they once were. Not as bad as Martinez in the Cotto fight but definitely legs on the decline.
But, have to give some credit to Garcia for throwing those body shots consistently, it's probable that played a significant part in Paulie slowing down and getting caught with more damaging shots.
Yezzir. He was always a B or C Level Fighter in my opinion.
C Level Fighter who highly overachieved
Sounds like I'm trying to slam him by calling him an overachieving C Fighter, but I'm not, we see C Level-esque players in other sports who overachieve through hard work and craftiness -- that's Paulie for you in a nutshell
that's actually a credit to him
he's the Trent Dilfer of boxing
I think Paulie never really being that good got the better of Paulie.
lmao this

This right here. Paulie was never that good to start with. His claim to fame was getting his ass kicked by Cotto.
This! Who did he beat to be a two time champ? Was it Edner Cherry and Vasylencho? Can't even name them
I think Paulie never really being that good got the better of Paulie.
ya i mean what paulie was able to do with the skill he had was beyond impressive lets call a spade a spade and he did that by being a very smart fighter but he just not type fighter who age agrees with at all

... Paulie's never been a runner... His style has always been be busy behind the jab and then using his legs to have his opponent miss by a half step, keeping him in position to still get off his combinations.
Danny Garcia seems to have understood that about Paulie, and resigned himself to fight within himself, keep steady balanced pressure, and simply wear Paulie down, stopping him late if it came.
No, he was just not that good. That being said, he made some good money (at 147 after being known a pillow fisted puncher for years), won belts in 2 divisions, but always got out gunned by the best. I didn't really care for him as a fighter (I like KO punchers more than box and move), but he was a game fighter who did more than he should have, 33-7 not too bad for no 1 punch power.
From inside the Barclay's center, it looked to me like Paulie was doing a decent job at making Garcia miss horribly at times. There were many moments DSG almost made Paulie look like Mayweather the way he was moving his head and bouncing out of the way of DSG's shots.
Too bad that unlike Mayweather, he wasn't really doing so in order to get anything off offensively. Plus, he took several damaging blows from Garcia throughout.
DSG was winning fairly decisively but didn't look good in the process.. looked like he had cement feet plus he was throwing these awkward rabbit shots and chopping punches.
