Just tossing this up in the air. When Malignaggi fought Juan Diaz in Houston he let out an outcry which eventually got him a rematch and a Job As a commentator, what he said after the post fight was real straight forward honest

Why wasn't he his usual self, why didn't he feel the same pain after the premature stoppage? Haymon? Thoughts?
Its not even about the Beatdown or the onesidedness, its about his response, he stood quiet. very OOC
$$$
HE used to be a big Haymon critic, got pulled aside and cut a check, he's been slobbering on and on about how everything Haymon does is heavenly and perfect since then
He's a castrated company man looking for a commentary position
I was waiting for those patented no-look wide hook swings of garcia to hit paulie smack right on his jaw to end the pathetic fight, but it never came. Probably it's bound to happen if the fight wasn't stop abruptly because Garcia is clearly breaking paulie bit by bit. The ref was probably told by the higher office to stop it as soon as he can because they don't want malignaggi to get brain damaged somehow, knowing he does the job on commentating well for the company. lol
Was that little wobble that he had THAT bad? To me that was just boxing. I didn't think he was hurt that bad. And yes, easy for me to say as I sit here behind this computer screen, I admit. And I don't know, maybe he was (hurt that bad). Trust me Kev, I'm not a bloodthirsty fan by any means. I'm all for a ref stepping in and preserving a fighter's health, especially if a fighter can no longer protect himself.
But that said, on the surface, it appeared like a really weak reason to stop a boxing fight at this level of the sport. Well in my opinion anyway.
That is the problem. When do you stop the fight, when the fighter gets visibly and badly hurt, or before he gets visibly and badly hurt? Like Gabe Rosado said in his latest interview, Meldrick Taylor, a former Olympian Gold medalist, World Champion, is bagging groceries in Philly now. that's just sad.

Danny Garcia was beating on him and nothing that his mind thought would help him be successful was working all that well in the actual fight. Paulie fought that "final fight: and accepted that the ref was protecting him when he stepped in.
Paulie was still fighting in the Juan Diaz fight and, rightfully, felt like he got the shaft from a ref looking to stop him for the simple goal of putting a stoppage on Diaz's ledger.
Paulie wasn't picked to make this an interesting match-up, this fight was suppose to be a showcase for Garcia. The surprising development was that it lasted as long as it did, and PBC barely put up any punch stats throughout the fight because Garcia was missing 80% of his total punches.
Garcia has had some good wins in the past, but he needs to continue that trend by fighting other elite fighters, not the likes of Salka, Paulie, past prime Judah and over the hill Morales.

Some fans may not appreciate the ref's decision of stopping the fight, but one thing will definitely appreciate it greatly, and that is Paulie's brain.

which is exactly why this fight should've never occurred in the first place
when the ref has to go to those lengths to protect a dude, why was this fight even happening?
Paulie was never KD'd or out on his feet the entire fight
the only reason for that type of stoppage was the ref knew Paulie had no chance to win, so he waved it off
but f**k, in reality, everybody and their mother at barclay's knew that going in...so why not just stop the fight exactly one second after the opening bell :lol1:
seriously I'm not trying to argue with you guys, I know where y'all are coming from
but my God man that was just one of the funnier "stoppages" I've ever seen at this level of the sport

After the Magomed incident in NY, you will see fights in NY get stopped more "prematurely". Or more like, stopped before a fighter ends up in a coma. The ref noticed what everyone else did, Paulie stumbling back, looking dizzy. The ref probably got nervous and didn't want his ass chewed up if anything happened to Malignaggi and just stopped the fight. Malignaggi looked completely out of it, moments before the stoppage, it looked a bit like he was gonna collapse momentarily.
but we must also look at the circumstances. Paulie is now a part time fighter coming off a long lay off and brutal knockout. Plus, he's past prime. He knows his future income rests in his commentating ability.
There's no reason for a fighter at that stage of his career to take any unneccesary damage.

Yes we've seen worse beatdowns than this continue but we must also look at the circumstances. Paulie is now a part time fighter coming off a long lay off and brutal knockout. Plus, he's past prime. He knows his future income rests in his commentating ability.
You can tell in his body language in the final two rounds that a lot of doubt was creeping in. There's no reason for a fighter at that stage of his career to take any unneccesary damage.
Lol we've seen infinitely worse "beat downs" than this go on & continue. This was an absolutely laughable stoppage.
Paulie is a corpse, and a corpse of a C minus fighter in his prime at that. He came for a check. Pretty clear he wasn't there to win. I mean f**k, he knew that he wasn't going to win. That was gym sparring for Garcia. Paulie's mission was to not get KTFO. That's it. Anything outside of that, even a ridiculously weak stoppage such as last night's, he was going to be cool with.
In fact I think he was so cool with it because that negated a fourth of the fight where DG still coulda had a chance to hit a homerun. It was a win-win for Paulie. Leave the ring early and endure less punishment, get that paycheck, and no highlight KO for Garcia. Win/win/win if you're him.
Hell dude even straight up said it before the fight.
"I don't want to end my career on the canvas."
His whole f**king goal was to not get highlight reeled, lmfao. Well congratulations, Paulie. You did it bro.
Basically this was like Kenny's Barber College playing the USC Trojans in football, and only losing by 28 instead of 55. For them it's a moral victory.
It didn't feel right, we know how emotional he gets and this response didn't match who he is, he loves boxing and I feel something happened to shut him up despite the fact he had no chance.

Cmon bra, stop it. Paulie was getting hammered and even tried to be buddy buddy with Garcia during the fight to see if he would show him any mercy. He had no answers from those heavy shots. Fight went as expected, a one sided beatdown

He had no chance of winning the fight at that point or at any point really whereas he clearly deserved the decision against Diaz.
Paulie actually did better than I thought he would, he made Garcia miss a lot but he had no chance of actually winning.
