I know this fight is everything that is wrong with the sport of boxing. Yet I know it will probably do more numbers than Golovkin-Lemiuex at the end of the day. Who is actually forking out dough for this?
It will be interesting to see the numbers. Guy just had the most boring PPV fight of all time where a lot of people got burned, and now he is fighting a non-entity nobody cares about. I would imagine it will be down to Floyd's loyal fanboys and a few suckers who don't know any better.
"most boring PPV fight of all time" in front of nearly 4.5m PPV homes, without mentioning the folks that saw the fight at the 5,000 closed circuits sites across the country, the 55,000 people who saw the fight on closed circuit in las vegas, the 16,500 that were in the building for the fight, or the countless international viewers of the fight (a fight that was "boring" because Pacquiao failed to show up, mind you).
Floyd fought his usual fight, awed most people with the complete way he was basically able to nullify Pacquiao, and he's likely going to be selling Mayweather-Berto as 'Floyd's last dance.
The general public will pick up on the "this is the last time to see Floyd do his thing" story, and no one will actually end up caring about who he's actually fighting.
Price it right, and the fight could end up doing 1m PPV buys just because.
will you also be buying golovkin-lemieux? I'll be getting that one.
Golovkin-Lemieux is a less competitive fight that Mayweather-Berto, between two fighters with near no name ID with the casual boxing fan that generally drives the PPV market, tbh.

Floyd Mayweather always brings a spectacle with his fights, regardless of who he fights. For most people, a Floyd fight is often just a really good opportunity to throw a party, get together with a ton of your friends and family, eat good food, and get folks who usually don't care about the fights to actually tune in for one.
If I end up hearing about a chill party that I'd enjoy watching the fight at, I'll buy a a 24-pack of Heineken, take it over, and enjoy the fights there. If nothing interesting comes up, I'm heading to my local sports bar to catch it there.
Will not be watching the fight alone in my house (which is even weird to talk about, let alone actually undertake).
why is floyd (whom has a belt) fighting berto?
thats kind of embarassing..
berto should be fighting the likes of soto karass or zab judah. lol deadass
Didn't Soto Karass already knock him out. Rofl.....
Honestly I never buy pay for views. I get all the fight channels on cable tv so I just watch the fight for free the following Saturday. They almost always show these 50 to 80 dollar pay for view fights for free the next weekend. Even Pacquiao-Mayweather was shown on free HBO a week later. I don't mind waiting a week to see the fight if it saves me $50. It's the same fight. When the fight is live I go on one of those places that give you round by round results within minutes of the end of each round. If I could only see Mayweather vs Berto by Paying for it I would skip it because it's a mismatch. Mayweather will either win by KO or win damn near every round for a one sided ud. Berto is ranked number 21 by boxrec.
Been watching all ppv for the last couple years now but that has come to an end unfortunately. Hoping with Mayweather pending retirement and PBC in the picture, that the ppv era is coming to an end.
Not buying nemore ppv period. Not even cotto-canelo but I might chip in on that one at the most $10
If this fight would actually happen. My suggestion is do not condone this type of fight by supporting it either through financially or morally. It needs to flop so hard, so that, they won't do, or even think of planning this type of fight again in the future.
The loser here are us fans and the whole of boxing in general. If we keep on condoning this type of fight, then we will get a lot of these kind of fights in the future. We will be turning off more of the casuals and the boxing stock will keep on plummeting down; then what will happen to the overall boxing interest or even the purse of the boxers as a whole? Those poor boys train so hard with blood and sweat, they deserve better. If boxing's stock rises they will get a better payday too, in fact, everyone gets a better payday.
I agree this type of fight should never be pushed to ppv. If it does decent numbers though there is nothing to deter them from doing it again though. Thats a big problem.
I think this will be Mayweather's worst PPV numbers since he went PPV. I would be shocked if he breaks 500,000 buys. Not inconceivable that it's as low as 250,000 buys. My prediction is that showtime does not release the PPV buy stats...
IMO this is the main reason a fight on free tv is possible, and is also the reason why negotiations with Showtime on an extension aren't going well.
The interest in him just isn't there anymore. I think he's hoping an impressive win on free tv gets people to care about him again.
Although I have no clue where the $ for this will come from.
I don't know what Floyd has planned in terms of new deals or fights, but I agree the interest is dying fast. His career is over, and fighting Berto while there are good, dangerous guys in the welter division will drive him out of relevance fast.
I agree this fight belongs on free tv, and I have a hard time understanding how this works as a PPV.
