It's their roster. There is not a single PBC fighter on any of the major pound for pound lists. A PBC only pound for pound list would look like this:
1. Danny Garcia
2. Erislandy Lara
3. Adonis Stevenson
4. Keith Thurman
5. Shawn Porter
6. James DeGale
7. Carl Frampton
8. Amir Khan
9. Gary Russell Jr.
10. Abner Mares
Or something to that effect. They are all good fighters but can any of them be the face of the franchise? They all seem to be lacking that "it" factor. Pro sports leagues are star driven and this looks like Haymon's biggest barrier.
Haymon doesn't know to build stars.
All them fighters but he hasn't made one a star. Top rank made Floyd. Haymon been trying to build up dudes like Berto, Thurman, Garcia, Broner forever.
That's why Haymon is constantly stealing other peoples fighters, he doesn't know how to build stars. He doesn't understand the work that goes into doing that.
Chavez was a rating star for HBO, Haymon got his hands on him and destroyed everything top rank build in one fight.
Lol wut. How is it haymons fault that jcc sucks. He clearly lost the first fight to Brian fukin Vera
Again I don't see how you build stars out the gate 4 months. Even random luck & fighters doing exceptional things in the ring are needed beyond just time. You need more than big fights. You need big fighters. Haymon can't throw the ghost of Salvador Sanchez in the ring & fight for these guys & make them stars. They gotta do it themselves. Thurman might be that guy among all you listed, but its obvious from his last two fights he's not quite as knight in shining armor-ish yet as people want him to be.
One thing I'm curious of is who do you consider a star today in boxing? What is a boxing star to you, like your definition? To me there are only a very few stars in the sport anyway so its not like PBC is gonna have a dozen stars by the end of the year even if they somehow hired Arum to work for them. If they have 2 stars created in 2-3 years out of the current roster & maybe hijacked 2-3 stars among, lets say, another 50-100 guys they sign between now & this time in 2016 that would be great.
I don't know that they should have. I think PBC is still in the infancy stage of their plan.
And honestly thats my biggest argument in virtually any PBC thread. Is people wanna act like PBC is the savior of boxing (it could be, but I'm not betting on it) or PBC is gonna be out of business by the end of next week (I doubt it, but it could easily fail within the next 2-4 years for one reason or another), but mainly this thing is so young, so unknown & so in play still saying either of those things just shows you as a bias contributor to the debate when so many things are up in the air. I personally feel like many things will get more defined when PBC has some sort of real figurehead fronting PBC. I suspect that'll be Richard Schaffer when he's finished his non-compete clause in a few months. I think things start getting more interesting & there is a clearer goal line established at that point.
Bolded is right on.
Idk if he learned how to create stars or not. He's only been at this job that allows for growing of stars for 4 months so the evidence isn't judgeable at this point imho if we are being fair & rational about the question.
In a year or more like two years or three we can talk about his successes or failures in building stars through this PBC entity. Thats more of a viable timetable to get the job done.
I also think building a star isn't even mostly HBO's, TR's, GBP's or PBC's job is part of my issue with this whole discussion. Stars mostly build themselves or have the skills, talent & drive to be stars & 99% of guys don't have the skill level, aren't talented enough or don't have the drive to be stars in the first place. HBO, TR & PBC can throw promising guys in with guys they beat for years in hopes of building a star, but there are always gonna be more washouts than successes & HBO & TR have had thousands of boxers put through that process over decades & PBC has had 200ish, most of which signed with Haymon in the last 6 months & have been part of PBC for 4 months. So what can you really expect if we are being fair & rational.
Now, who's built a star in boxing in 120 days? Its okay to say no one & we can move on.
the top part would be true, if PBC had some sort of success, but atm their biggest fight is Peterson Garcia but even that was a farce due to the catchweight... Broner Porter did nothing for Porter... Thurman Guerrero was okay but what's going on with Thurman now?
So I'll give you noone but at this stage PBC should have showed us something and yet it's still doing the same s.hit it was doing at showtime just on more channels..
I'm telling you his job was to get his fighters paid the most money possible til 4 months ago. And no in the 4 months he's been running PBC he hasn't created a star, but please show me who has created a star in 4 months. I'll take your silence or non-response to the question in future posts as an answer of "no one has".
Answer my question first:
He was working next to dick who was making Danny a huge star... Your telling me He didn't learn that part of the business before creating his own promotional company??
I anxiously await the list of stars ANY promoter, TV channel or manager created within their first 120 days of operation. I'll wait. Feel like I'll be waiting awhile, but I'll wait for your answer.
Lmao... Haymon has been controlling these fighter's careers for years.
He has yet to develop a PPv fighter..
Broner and wilder have come closest, but nobody has become a star under Haymon's tutelage...
Yeah but he has some extremely talent Prospect on the Rise who all those guys you listed could eventually be Sacrificial Lambs to which would then create even BIGGER STARS!
Fans are trying to create Superstars within 4 Months of business being open while Haymon contracts with these networks span for 2-3 Years or what ever it is. He has plenty of team to build up and develop stars. What Is The Rush?
I would love to see the Hungry Prospects get more TV Time instead of wasting time on guys who want to play it safe and not Challenge. If you don't want to step up competition go fight on Bounce TV or something but they shouldn't be on CBS, NBC or ESPN!
I agree. This Warren/Payano fight should have been an undercard on a better network. It's actually an intriguing fight.
I remember Berto when he was being built up, this guy that was always thanking this Haymon character, a protected guy who never stepped up, just hung around fighting cans while getting way overpaid.
Actually fairly similar to how I feel some of these Haymon guys are being guided right now.
Haymon has been managing fighters for years not running a competitor to HBO, TR & GBP. He's been doing that for 4 months. Those are completely different jobs with different goals. It'd be like saying the new president of a movie studio hasn't produced a blockbuster after 4 months on the job despite being Ben Affleck's & a handful of other notable to semi-notable actors agent for a decade or so. Most of the guys Haymon effed with were already names to some degree & his job wasn't to make them stars it was to get them paid their value.

Wow really? We're not talking about a newly created promotion with no experience. PBC might as well be an extension of GBP, they took all their fighters... Haymon was behind that and was also bts when GBP was on top, but he needs 5 years to build his brand... Okkkkkk:smashfrea
If PBC doesn't go anywhere, it's not because people want them to fail it's because Haymon didn't learn **** while he was bts...

Yes this right here.

Haymon has been doing this for years. He didn't come out of nowhere in the past few months. He does a great job getting guys paydays, but can't manage to turn any of them into stars.
Top rank is the only company that truly builds stars...
For pbc to be successful, they need to be the toughest matchmakers.. They obviously can't build stars, but they can put on interesting and compelling matchups...
Crawford is right on track now, too. Say what you want about Arum and his company, but they know what they're doing.
Haymon really needs to figure it out or start cross-promoting.
Where's the promotion for Beterbiev though? He was buried on Lara's undercard and has been silent since.
You see a new GGG or Kovalev press release every day it seems.
He's fighting in October. He'll be fine. He only has 9 fights. By this time next year he'll be big time.
GGG and Kovalev are champions. They're supposed to have press daily.

Spence has big implications in boxing potentially. Idk if I'd consider Wilder all that talented & I'm not even a fan, but I feel like post-Wlad he could end up being the man for some length of time & maybe, Tyson & Joshua could have some (very) poormans Ali/Frazier/Norton/Foreman thing going on. Beterbiev I could see easily garner a following like Kovalev or GGG have right now. And Haymon has a surprising amount of under 15 fight type guys who I suspect will result in a half dozen or so guys who will get wider attention at some point.
Basically though what are some of you excepting this early in their plan? I know there are some very vocal fans who want PBC to fail & to make an analogy are trying to suggest a company that just spent a ****load of money on a building, employees & machinery should close the doors 4 months in cuz they haven't become the Walmart of boxing yet. Thats nuts & I hope none of you are entrepreneurs with that sorta mindset. Sometimes you gotta lose some battles to win the war.

All these talented fighters and no stars, its odd.
Kathy Duva with Kovalev used to fight on NBC Sports and now he's a ratings draw on HBO :lol1:
She had some good ratings with the akamek fights too. Similar to what PBC gets, only difference is she actually got paid to put on those shows, and she took pride in the events.
Once Haymon gets his 15% he doesn't do ****. PBC events are handing out tickets by the box.
What a dumb sport.
Truer words were never spoken. Really pathetic how the fragile egos of some multi-multi-millionaires keep the sport fragmented and only a fraction of what it could be.
