Heavily hyped card actually delivering from top to bottom, topped off by the most hyped fighter in that organisation's history prevailing against a guy that was supposed to be a nightmare matchup for him.
What does we have to counteract that? A hyped-up young talent severely diminishing his stock against an old, battleworn showcase opponent in a fight absolutely nobody wanted in the first place.
Boxing has such an unpleasant, bloated feel to it right now. The matchups aren't particularly good and the overall talent level just seems tremendously thin right now. Too often you tune in and wonder why you even bothered doing so.
Most of the money comes from sponsors and from bonus..some boxers dont even make 500k a fight
Thurman made $1.5mil & Collazo the B-side of a weak azz card on ESPN made $500,000...compare that to UFC 189 (a PPV LOL) :bottle: MMA taking over boxing doe!:bottle:
McGregor is likely making over $3M. Keep in mind he gets $3 for each PPV buy. That's a standard that only few fighters in the UFC get (Silva, Jon Jones, GSP etc.)
Only a few fighters that headline the UFC PPV's get a cut of the PPV & MMA is taking over boxing LOL.
MMA is an inferior sport. Its like watching a decathlon. Who the **** cares about guys who can do a whole bunch of things ok. Give me boxers who master one skill over MMA guys who combine but don't master any.
And you've got to have a little gay to enjoy men rolling around on top of each other.
I used to really enjoy MMA when it was more pure disciplines fighting each other rather than the modern "mma style" but to say mma guys dont master one skill is plain ignorant. For many, that one skill is submissions and groundwork instead of punching, still an immense amount of skill.

Both main eventers made 500k each and mma is taking over lol

The UFC 189 delivered in ways that not even Pac-Mayweather could deliver.
all the fights, especially the main event, were awesome. I'm glad it aired after that boring Thurman vs. Collazo fight.
I think they got lucky, cause I've seen some of their cards and they haven't been this good. So this was like a once in a life time really put together card.
But it easily beats out any card that boxing has put out this year.
McGregor is such a beast.
Its true, boxing is looking worse and worse, especially PBC, because Haymon is too much of a coward to make any good matchups.
Why have Thurman keep fighting leftovers and bums?
Lets get Spence and Thurman to right immediately.

UFC had a good night but its so hit and miss. For every really good card we get a more than a few main events that are either 10 second KO's or 5 round wrestling matches.
The PPV audience for UFC has declined steadily the last few years for a reason.
Aug 1 is another weak azz PBC card (Garcia V Malignaggi) & UFC 190 happens the same day (Ronda Rousey V Beth Corriea)...it's obvious people are gonna watch the UFC PPV that day...& all the MMA fans are gonna make the same threads again claiming that "MMA shyts over boxing". SMH.
Ok... And? You make it seem like that's some great accomplishment. The UFC had a better card than boxing on one specific Saturday. The headliners were Thurman and Collazo ... What were you expecting? Would the UFC have kicked boxings ass when it was Thurman/Guerrero? Broner/Porter? Garcia/Peterson? Of if Floyd forgoes PPV and fights on network this time around? You can compare UFC to PBC if that's how you wanna get your jollies off on a boxing forum but UFC vs boxing as a whole? ... NO COMPETITION WHATSOEVER.
List the UFC PPV numbers this last year or any year for that matter and see who comes out on top regardless of what promoters are involved.
That should be a pretty good indicator. Which sport fans are willing to lay out COLD. HARD. CASH. For... And it ain't underwear huggers.
their punches look different because quite simply if they used boxing footwork theyd get thrown around like ragdolls by judo/wrestling homos or have their shins kicked in half by muay thai guys. they have to defend their lower body not just above the waist.
doesnt mean they cant punch... people dont realize boxing is not fighting or even fist fighting.. its boxing... its a very specific sport with a very specific form that revolves around the scoring system.. you add kicks and tackles and you gotta change that form or lose
it's like someone who grew up playing tennis saying baseball players dont swing their bat right... different sports different form
i dont think the talent gap is very significant anymore, a guy like mcgregor who got with a top boxing trainer 10 years ago would be a serious contender, and a guy like hopkins who mastered MMA instead of tactical boxing likewise could succeed in MMA
well said, your probably right. its just that those punches they throw look so weak man....
I agree, the Lawler vs McDonald fight alone was worth it. Just saw Thurman vs Collazo and honestly was very disappointed, Thurman made Khan look like a god and Collazo actually hurt him while he wasn't able to drop him once.
That was an AMAZING fight. Lawler brought the oldschool back and Rory also showed he can be way more interesting than before. All-out bloody WAR.
The ufc card was great..
But honestly your comparing apples and oranges.. A major ufc, most hyped card of the year vs a young emerging star in boxing in a low profile showcase fight,,,
MMA fans always gonna need a boxing forum to talk stuff like "UFC shyts on boxing".

I said back in like 2009 both sports are star driven. The success of either sport in the eyes of the mainstream depends on those few guys who are stars and can bring in normal folks. Hard to deny that Mcgregor could be that new guy for UFC, which they've been lacking since the Lesnar's and Liddel's left. But eventually Mcgregor will fade, a new golden boy for boxing will emerge and the ebb and flow of both sports will continue. While I love boxing I can enjoy MMA so whatever.
ufc is gay, dudes cant punch for sh**
