So, GGG has been getting a lot of flak around here ever since his promoter said they are willing to meet Ward in the middle at 164 + give him a 50% split to make this fight happen. I, personally, would prefer the bout take place at 168 (if/when GGG moves up naturally)- just to leave no doubt, but that could take too long and for now, meeting in the middle shouldn't be out of the question since they both have fought at their own weight divisions for pretty much their entire pro careers and it is pretty close to their natural weights. Isn't this why catchweights exist? Think about the CW for Cotto-Geale for a minute, and compare.
Now, Ward "fans" are saying GGG should just move up right now and even go as far as calling him a coward for not doing so. Shouldn't the same logic apply to Ward moving up to 175? Even more so? ..since he struggles to even make 168 now? I know he's been out the game for a while so I'm willing to cut him some slack but the guy himself has said many times that he plans on moving up to 175, his last fight technically was at LHW (over 168 limit) and he has already "cleaned out" 168 as his fans love to keep repeating..
..and there is the difference. One guy has already cleaned out his division and pretty much has nothing left to prove at that weight and much to gain by moving up, while the other still has unfinished business and at least 2 potential big money fights left at his weight and less to gain by moving up.. and GGG should be the one to move up? to leave that all behind for a fight with Ward? On Ward's terms? Really?
I know that GGG was willing to go up to 168 for Froch & JCC jr but those are big money fights and Ward simply is NOT. Ward wouldn't bring anywhere near the amount of $ those names bring to the table and would no doubt demand more than he deserves (which GGG is willing to give him btw, at 164). Ward should be bending over backwards to make these fights happen, but instead insists on being a Diva as usual and wonders why GGG/Kova are more respected and popular than he is.
Thoughts? (fIomos need not respond, we already know the hate you're going to spew)
ward has a better overall resume than ggg no one can deny that but just look at the last 3+ years of each guys career and what type of fighter they are right now.
in the last 3 years...
ggg has fought 6 top 10 fighters and 3 top 5 fighters.
ward has fought 1 top 10 fighter and a drained dawson if you want to count that.
now lets talk about who they tried to fight...
ggg has tried to fight cotto(champ), martinez(champ), sturm(champ), quillin(champ), lee(champ), pirog(champ), soliman(champ), ndam, froch, chavez jr, etc...
ward has tried to fight dmitri sartison, caleb truax, and tomas oosthizen while rejecting fights with bute, stevenson, and froch II
its obvious one guy wants to fight the best in his division and is up for challenges while the other guy is happy with his 2 million guarantee and doesn't want any challenges. ward was kicked off hbo because he didn't want to fight anyone good.
When they were both active, Lampley used his on air time to downplay this fight, saying this isn't the fight fans want.
HBO doesn't want GGG to fight Ward IMO because they are worried a loss, especially one where he gets KO'd or outclassed, will hurt GGG's ability to sell a PPV.
HBO wants GGG to beat Canelo or Cotto or both on PPV before they ok him to fight Ward.

You make some good points about the financial incentive to fight at a catchweight. Also, lets face it, Ward is a harder fight and GGG people may feel like any compromise is a disadvantage. Dawson paid a price for not being at his best against Ward.
You are ignoring an important fact. GGG said that fighting Froch or Chavez Jr. at 168 was a matter of respect. In his recent Russian interview Golovkin made it quite clear that he has little respect if any for Ward and this may be a way of making that point. :boxing:
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
Doug Fischer's response to Golovkin's 164 offer:
So, to me – and this is just my opinion, I haven’t spoken to Loeffler or anyone else from GGG’s team about this silliness – the 164-pound catchweight offer was just a stab at Ward. They were giving him s__t in a very public way. They know Ward has a big ego and views himself as the “A-side” (I also hate this term) in a potential matchup with GGG. The catchweight offer was their way of saying, “No, Dre you are not the star in this matchup. GGG is. He will dictate the terms to you.” I just saw it as a big “F__k you” to Team Ward in response to some of Ward’s recent pissy interviews about GGG and Loeffler.
I got a kick out of the reaction within the Twitterverse. Why anyone would take what Loeffler said seriously given that Ward just came back from a near-two-year hiatus and fought an unranked fighter at light heavyweight is beyond my understanding. When Ward deems himself ready to face a legit ranked contender at super middleweight THEN I think we can take talk of a Ward-GGG showdown seriously.
Regardless, the GGG hate has definitely turned up a notch. Maybe you’re among the haters now. LOL. That’s all good. His fan base is big enough to take ya’ll on, and for the time being, it’s still growing.

Gotta love people calling Golovkin a coward when Andre Ward is the one who turns down fights.
Ward turned down Bute at 168 in Oakland because "he needs to prove himself".
Ward turned down Stevenson (after the Dawson KO) at 168 in Oakland because "he needs to prove himself".
Ward says he'd love to fight Hopkins at 175, Dawson beats Hopkins and Ward brings him down to 168 (rejecting Dawson later request at 170).
Meanwhile:
Pavlik looks like sh*t, Ward signs to fight him.
Chavez gets butchered by Martinez, Ward says he & Chavez would be a great fight.
Ward says MW Golovkin needs to prove himself so they should fight.
F*ck Andre Ward. To this day, Ward has yet to make GGG an offer to fight. He's allowed to counter offer K2's inital, lets see if he does or if he chooses to fight someone like Periban instead.
Ggg trying to get an advantage, he knows ward will be tough to hit. As for ward just playing the waiting game for a big payday. But hes been waiting too long and is probaly the B side against kov ggg and froch. They bring the money he just has to pick his poison.
The way i see it both ward and ggg are looking for winnable big money fights vs smaller guys.
Pros ward staying 168:easier fights
Cons:loses stock for fighting bums in a cleared division.
Pros for moving 175: big fights with kovalev stevenson hopkins pascal.
Cons:loses Out on ggg fight. Loses his 0
pros for Ggg staying at 160: gives him a shot at cleaning the division. Is within striking distance of a huge money fight between canelo or cotto And on a slim shot floyd.
Cons. Wasting his few prime years waiting to get fights That may never happen.
Pros for going to 168:beats ward becomes champ. Easier to find fights as he will be the king of the division.
Cons. Loses and can no longer make 160 and becomes #2 @168 till ward moves up. Misses out on canelo cotto floyd
in my honest opinion ward has more to gain by moving up while ggg has more to gain by staying at 160 plain and simple both are going 2 different directions .
kovalev-ward is the doable fight since ward appears to be moving in that direction anyway
golovkin who drops a whopping 6 lbs to make weight isnt gonna get much bigger in his mid 30s..
people forget he's older than both ward and kovalev because of his baby face and think he's some kid climbing the ranks
ward is the established #2 p4p and winner of tournaments and many lucious titles and ggg is the winner of........fighting hotwheels collectors?
Ward has literally fought 1 fight in the last couple years and it was a complete waste of time fighting a complete bum. Did that fight even draw a TV audience?
ward is the established #2 p4p and winner of tournaments and many lucious titles and ggg is the winner of........fighting hotwheels collectors?
Last time i checked GGG was #3 p4p and Ward isn't even ranked. Past times are gone kid.
The thing is, I just think it would be moronic for either GGG or Ward to go up to the next weight class and fight the best fighter at that weight first. Their promoters would have to be morons to let it happen.
Fight a solid guy first, then fight the best in the division.
No double standards! GGG needs to move up and fight Ward(orDuck)! Then Ward needs to move up for Kov (orDuck)!
It's easy when you're not a dick rider! I want the best to fight the best period! I don't care who wins, I just know I want Ward vs GGG, &Kovalev! Quit Making excuses!
Ward's next fight will be a tune up.
GGG and Kovalev aren't tune ups

The structure of the boxing business and governing bodies today is such that every boxer needs to be opportunistic: "Hi it's all about me and whatever I can take from the table. Or else somebody eats my food for me."
This explains everything. Floyd is the king of self-opportunism, as he is the greatest boxer of our time as well.
Cotto: "Hey Pac drained me, so I'm going to drain people as part of my gamesmanship. I'll take every advantage I can think of."
GGG: "My trainer Sanchez shoots off his mouth, saying I'll whip all takers 154-168, but in fact I want to win every belt at 160 first, unless Junior wants to fight, or maybe Froch, but Ward no way, maybe at 164 doe"
We can all make a longer list, as these are just a couple that came to mind
Today's boxing biz:
-- No meaningful titles or belts
-- "A side" fighters
-- And "B side" fighters who can eat s*h*t*
-- No same-day weight in (indeed, why have them at all?)
And so fan girls for each fighter spins things for his man, while opposing fans (on this board they are aligned mainly by race or nationality) spin against the fighter.
Silliness. Each fighter is doing what every other fighter with a brain would do, opportunistically, if he were in the same situation.
yep.. not wasting any more time on you
Auto correct calm down bro. You clearly have nothing to say. Gg wants a cw and ward not goin to 175 have nothing to do with each other

Ward, or anywhere affiliated with Andre Ward, never ran around saying 'i whoop every fighter 160-175" or anything like that.
Team Golovkin ran their mouths, and Golovkin never stepped out to reel any of it back, so he's got to stand by those words. simple as that.
Kovalev actually has a resume. It just shows haw laughably garbage Golovkin's resume is that his defenders always feel the need to lump him in with Kovalev, Loma, and even Wlad. I like Golovkin and watch all of his fights, I also can appreciate him without declaring him the next best thing since sliced bread.
Kovalev had the opportunity to fight guys like BHop n Pascal.
Fighters at MW don't want anything to do with GGG.
Keep crying "MUH RESUME!" like it's the 1980's lol
