Obviously Cotto's not coming in at 160, and he'll undoubtedly be the smaller man, but I have Cotto with the upset.
Call me crazy, and gimme the usual, "are you crazy, GGG knocks him out within 6!", but I'm willing to make an account beg on this, and I'm willing to bet REAL $$$ that he beats Canelo.
Who's down??? If not real money, then some sort of prize., like a gift card or something.
I honestly think you're out of your mind.
Golovkin beats him to a pulp.
You don't know what you're watching. Cotto has the best cgcnace out of any MW to beta him. People thought pre injury Sergio was that guy, been t Cotto has the actual skill, and MW power to hurt, and beat GGG.
You guys don't u derstamd that GGG hasn't been in the ring with someone of Cotto's skill and ability. It doesn't take a KO blow to beat GGG. It takes a good punch, and the skill behind it to capitalize. Cotto has the skill go capitalize.
I agree that Cotto beats Canelo but that wouldn't be a surprise.
However, if GGG isn't too drained...he will batter Cotto. Miguel, a much younger, fitter, more prime version couldn't handle Margarito and Pacquiao but he's supposed to handle GGG?
Pacwuiao is a freaking legend. A MW Pacquiao would embarass GGG beyond words. Margarito was inbis prime and using plaster. Cotto was winning the fight til theplasye rkicked in. Plus, prime Margarito was a stud.
GGG is a monster, BUT, he's not a monster when he's getting hit, and the fights in the center of the ring. He's really effective when he's dictating, bit his flaws are extremely evident when his opponent isn't scared of him, and boxees him in the center of the ring.
I was waiting for some points to be stated as how this can happen... I'm all for upsets but this is a real tough fight so I'd like to hear points.
My only theory is Cotto boxing like a king for 12 rds and avoiding all GGG's big shots and just keep turning him. But based on his nonstop moving for a guy like Margarito where you can see Cotto eventually tires and ends up taking some punishment, I can't see him pulling it off against GGG either.
There's no other way Cotto can stay on GGG's size advantages whether it's strength, power, or probably durability. The size will eventually take over and Cotto will look like a little man taking a big beating from a big dude.
Great analysis. I do however believe Cotto is in much better condition these days under Gavin. If cotto can bix for the 12nj believe he will win. If he gases out he losses as he did to floyd except if will look like margarito 1
While Cotto being the better boxer definitely GGG will get tagged. So what will happen when GGG starts swinging??
I will have to see how Cotto looks vs Canelo. This will tell me how he will deal with GGG.
All this BS talk about GGG this and that.
Cotto IS the better boxer and GGG is there to be hit. Cotto may not be a one punch KO guy, BUT regardless of opposition, he has dropped his last three opponents with one punch for KDs, and drop them pretty hard.
We know that Cotto may not be able to take repeated punishment from GGG, but could GGG take reaped punishment from Cotto? It goes both ways gentleman.
All bias aise, I know that GGG has the size advantage and has tremendous punching power. I'm not sold in his stamina as of yet, his chin has not been really checked (however he at least has a good chin, not sure about a granite chin), and has leaky defense.
GGG also cuts the ring extremely well, and that's why I believe that Cotto will not fight him on the back foot.
Its my believe that Cotto should fight him in the center of the ring, utilizing angles and lateral movement. He should utilize a modified Margarito II approach BUT combined with something similar of what Moore did when he was (at spots) successful. Cotto will have to get off first, each and every time, keep the jab very active, double and triple the jab since his jab is powerful enough to keep you in check and make you reset, which GGG does every time he does not gets off first when coming in for the attack.
Now, if he stays too long in the pocket and trades with GGG for extended periods of time, he could get caught with a combo and get hurt.
Another observation is that we have not seen GGG being attacked hard to the body, and we dont know how that will effect his performance.
Cotto has a decent chance, and its not only a puncher's chance!
I know GGG lover will say what they always say so... :fing26:!

Golovkin is going to be right ontop of Cotto from the start, imposing his strength and power. I don't think it lasts that long to be honest. 5-6 rd's give or take one more round.

It all comes down to durability. Cotto might be the better fighter but he's a bleeder. Always has and always will be. The question is can Cotto get GGG out of there before his face gets taken off? It's not impossible.
I honestly think Cotto beats GGG @ MW.

You make a thread about Cotto beating GGG at MW but, instead, you are ready to bet real $ on Cotto beating Canelo? :)
I would have to go with GGG, but Cotto is a bit of an unknown quantity right now.
Just how good has he become under Roach? But he will be facing one of the best middleweights of recent times, so its a big ask.

I would favour Golvkin because the size and power difference but it wouldn't be easy to him. If they would be same sized then I would obviously go with Cotto. Cotto is a more well wounded, more proven and P4P wise better fighter than Golovkin.
Cotto will outbox and outsmart Golovkin for a clear decision win. People will always say that Miguel will be knocked out etc. but they've been saying that for the longest time and here he is, still winning. Miguel has a good team now with Roach behind him-- and that will be a key factor.
"still winning"
lost to trout
beat a one-legged Yuri Foreman
beat a one-legged Sergio Martinez who refused to fight GGG (this needs to be stated everytime Cotto fans hype that win up, he beat a guy who avoided GGG like the plague)
beat a journeyman Delvin Rodriguez
beat a past-prime/journeyman Ricardo Mayorga
beat a literal european bum in Michael Jennings
beat a past-it, soul-taken Antonio Margarito
gmafb
Cotto is going to want a 155 CW. Can ggg make it?
mandatory defenses have to be at the weight limit
GGG could agree to a catchweight but Cotto would have to be offering him some cash, but he doesn't have to accept the catchweight for the fight to be made/cotto to vacate
Cotto has been looking good lately, but he doesn't have the mental toughness to win a war. No shot against GGG. He has a chance at outboxing Canelo, but Canelo also takes him out if it turns into a firefight.
