After the fight between Miguel Cotto and Daniel Geale, Kellerman and Cotto spent 90% of their interview talking about how much Freddie Roach meant to the adjustments that Cotto has made in his fighting approach since late 2013. Although Cotto has had three fights or so since that time, folks are saying that this is a vast improvement...
However, when Roach had Manny Pacquiao, he didn't do much at all to have Pac adjust to the height, reach and speed advantages that Floyd Mayweather had and also the size factor. It looked like he didn't know what to do in the corner...
So my question is this: Is Freddie Roach still a good trainer, or is he on the decline?
look at Nacho Beristein....dude has been around since managing Vincente Saldivar in the 60s-70s, has trained many fighters from scratch and how many accolades has he recieved
I hear you on that one...I like Beristein and I can't remember him getting any awards for trainer of the year...
Roach improved his career by making sure he fought cans and severely injured boxers at catchweights.
this started after weight draining Morales after the first fight, knowing that he couldn't make 130 anymore and just lost to Zahir Raheem
Roach is a great trainer, but the match making has been great for his fighters but crappy for the fans
Bradley and Mayweather were the only fighters that he has fought since 2009 who are proven elite welterweights
IMO this so called historic welterweight run was all smoke and mirrors.....no one really looked impressive right before he fought them....either guys moving up in weight or looking bad in previous fights
Rios....lol
Algieri...bwahahahahahaha
Marquez 2-4 at welterweight...wins over a spent Alvarado, and Pac while losing to Money, Bradley, and Pac 2x...great fighter not a great welterweight
Shane Oldsley hadn't won a fight in 3 years
Clottey never won a big fight and was wholly average
roach has always been overrated as a trainer in my book
never took a novice pro all the way to a championship
I cant name one fighter he trained from scratch
he doesn't give good advice in the corner
and outside of rigondeaux who would be great with or without him, none of his fighters adjust well mid fight
I call a spade a spade....he is a great trainer, but not the best trainer in the world and definitely I don't take those BWAA trainer of the year awards seriously, when some of those years other trainers clearly had the better year
He is white.....he has a terminal illness.....he has a great story...feel good "all American" underdog story.....too bad the training skills don't meet the accolades
look at Nacho Beristein....dude has been around since managing Vincente Saldivar in the 60s-70s, has trained many fighters from scratch and how many accolades has he recieved

Thats Pretty much the Troof right there. Green K sent.
you're comparing Delvin Rodriguez and Daniel Geale to Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
It is utter blasphemy to make such a comparison.
Roach improved his career by making sure he fought cans and severely injured boxers at catchweights.
That's mainly what I was directing towards...Is Roach really that good?
Also, I wasn't implying that I was comparing Rodriguez and Geale to Marquez and Mayweather. It's that Roach has been praised for his work with Cotto, but nothing has been said about what he's done with Pacquiao...
i would say there's a wee bit of a gap between adjusting to Daniel effing Geale and Floyd Mayweather
It's not just that, Cotto faced Sergio and Rodriguez with Roach in his corner and folks were saying then that Cotto was a beast in those fights as well.
So how come Roach made so much of a difference with Cotto but not much with Pacquiao? Plus the Floyd fight isn't one example, but the 3rd and 4th fight with Marquez could be brought up...
Bear in mind that Pac is 3-3 in his last 6 fights
