Will he immediately be considered an All Time Great? GOAT status?
I say Ward and GGG meet at a catchweight of 165. I give Ward the extra pound because he would be sacrificing the most between the two.
He's the one losing weight, plus if GGG wins, he can campaign permanently at 168. In the reverse, if Ward wins, he wouldn't permanently or temporarily move down to 160.
If Andre Ward beats Kovalev and GGG, yes... he IS the GOAT. Across all divisions.
Kovalev is going to retire as the LHW GOAT (because in reality he will retire undefeated and beat Ward if they fought) So even if he just moves up and beats Kovalev.... He's the GOAT.
Won't happen. Ward will duck him, and if he ever grows a pair and stops fighting British plumbers, he gets brutalized and his career is over.
Hope ward faces them both. He'd abuse the hell out of GGG and would easily punish kovalev.
lolwut?
Ward wouldn't be able to do his usual clinch/headbutt routine without getting hammered. Kovalev is not a drained Dawson and would maintain distance and stifle Ward's offense.
Kov has the size, reach, and power advantage over Ward, and plenty of skill to use these advantages.
Kovalev makes Ward his bítch until the ref steps in and stops it.
Ward-Kov/Stevenson would be great action packed fights. Ward-GGG would be pretty boring I think, Ward could probably spoil his work too easy and strong arm the guy.
But if he does them both you could certainly argue that he's the best fighter in the world.
I expect Ward to face GGG then Krusher and best both, GGG certainly Krusher too but I expect him to struggle with him. GGG at 168, GGG wouldnt have to drain himself to bully 160 pounders like usual. That said I dont expect GGG to move up until Ward vacates the division.
It is a straight out lie. GGG does not "drain himself". He is making the weight limit quite comfortably. In fact, he comes underweight (159-158) in the weigh-in lately..
it would be an excellent achievement and would cement his hall of fame status, for sure. even now golovkin would be the toughest opponent ward has faced to date. but the fight would be even better if it came 6-12 months from now after golovkin has unified some of the titles at middleweight and perhaps partaken in a ppv bill - then we would have a real clash of kings on our hands

Ward only faced some good competition because he was forced to face them in the Super 6, otherwise he keeps just talking big. In the HBO meeting he said he isnt ready to face GGG. What does it tell you? If he isnt ready for GGG he will never be ready to face the Krusher. Ward will keep fighting a couple more bums on irrelevant networks in front of his family.
... "If Andre Ward beats Kovalev and GGG"...
This is a big "if" -- because we still don't even know if Ward is going to fight them. Or if Ward plans to fight them in 2016 (or "down the line").
After Sad Chad, Ward wanted to fight Pavlik (but he undertook surgery instead), then he wanted Sartison (but HBO forced him against E-Rod); when coming back, this year, Ward fought Paul Smith.
Now you figure out by yourselves.
Golovkin has no record at SMW, it wouldn't mean that much.
Beating the champ from the division below who has no record at a higher weight really isn't that impressive.
Golovkin isn't proven better than any of the top 10 SMWs at this point in time.
Kovalev on the other hand would be an exceptional win. To move up a division and beat the champ and arguably the hardest pfp puncher in boxing would be an impressive feat.
But let's be real, Ward probably doesn't fight either of them. He's been a diva since the Super 6 ended.
Plus Andre needs at least one full fight at 175 before taking on the best in the division.
But GGG doesn't need one to fight the best at 168??? Typical hypocrisy!
All time great status, maybe but I doubt it, he's in an extremely weak era for 168 pounders! And regardless of whether you feel Bute was exposed, the fact that Ward wanted no piece of him damages him!
Goat status, gtfo whats with guys on this forum bestowing this to every other guy these days? You realise it means greatest of all time and we apparently have about 20 of them now! Does nobody see the logical failure in that??
Beating Froch and Kessler when he did were better wins.
Kessler: Favored to win the whole Super 6, obviously also favored to beat Ward. Favored to beat Froch, which he did, favored to beat Abraham, Taylor, which let's face it, he would have beaten them.
Froch: Probably a HOF SMW in the very least.
Kovalev would be a great win though. GGG, I just want to see Golovkin get beat and look lost.
Maybe however GGG and Kov are in most p4p rankings. Froch and Kessler werent. Kessler's win ledger then was no better than gggs now, prob worse. And HOF Froch doesn't like his chances vs undersized MW on his home turf and would rather retire
No, at least not yet

If Ward wins those fights and then goes on to become undisputed champion at 175, Ward gets his name into the conversation.
Ward goes on to pick off a title at cruiserweight and then pick off a heavyweight championship then, yeah, Ward would have a definitive case to be called the GOAT.
Just check the possible resume:
-WBC/WBC super middleweight champion (Ring champ/168 kingpin)
-WBO/WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion (175 kingpin)
-champion at cruiserweight
-champion at heavyweight
-possibly unbeaten by this point (having not taken an L since he was 14 years old)
outside of possibly Sugar Ray Robinson or Joe Louis, what other fighter would have a resume to compete with that?
So ggg-ward needs to happen right away, with ggg moving up 8 lbs to meet ward at 168,but ward-kovalev needs to marinate some more, when ward is only 3 lbs away from kovalev, fighting at 172?
Simply because GGG is at the height of his popularity.
I don't think Kovalev is there yet.
The Question is not IF. The Question should be WHEN Andre Ward beats both GGG and Kovalev.
I remember when Mayweather said that before the Corrales fight. It was either Brian Kenny or Max Kellerman, but they were saying IF you beat Corrales, and Floyd corrected him quickly with "it's not IF I win, it's WHEN I win".
Cold blooded assassin right there.
How are you so sure?
Neither seems like they'd duck a fight. I think the fight needs to marinate for at least another year.
