Maybe I'm missing something, I've had liberty cable (which changes name every couple of years) for most of my life, and regular hbo/sho events are free(ish) (you obviously pay for hbo/sho subscription). I spent most of 2014 with dish, however, and never did I have to pay extra for non-ppv events, just the usual subscription. The only time they've ever charged to watch a non-ppv event (essentialy turning into ppv) was Cotto vs Trout, on Cotto's request. I remember it was pretty controversial, people were pissed. And regardless of some posters trying to make it seem like we kiss Cotto's ass regardless of what he does, people here on the island turned on him pretty quickly. I know a few even celebrated him losing that fight. Yea I'm not denying that.

No different than here in Quebec. ANY fight on HBO or SHOWTIME from Montreal or Quebec City will be PPV in Quebec and the HBO Canada feed will feature something else. This may actually extend right across Canada, I am not certain. I only know that in Quebec, it is always like this. This is due to our cable providers wanting to squeeze every last buck out of us. That's pretty low, but it's different than what I thought was happening here/happened back in 2012. Charging PR for Cotto vs Trout was all Cotto's request, the cable network just complied. It's almost expected that big companies will try to nickel and dime you to death, but there's this perception that boxers fight for their country/people. In a sense, Cotto was backstabbing his supporters.
