His supposed last fight is going to be a big anticlimax at this rate. I am sure he is a little disappointed with the situation. The current landscape is not really working out for him, obviously its not the end of the world whoever he chooses it will be a big event and will be a good fighter. But if it happens to be his last fight would have been nice for him to go out with a bang, or someone which gets fans excited, I think his career deserves that.
Khan surely isn't a great option after that performance, Floyd will spend much of the build up probably defending the fight to the public, which can't be appealing especially for the last one.
I think Haymon will not want the fight either as it could damage Khan's stock to a irreparable level if he gets wiped out, he could lose two fighters in one night.
The level Floyd has set himself makes it slim pickings to be honest, I think Brook and Thurman are the two best options at WW both being champions and undefeated. I wonder if they would pull Thurman out of the Collazo fight for September. Lets see how Brook does tonight, if he looks like crap as well it could be another option down the drain.
Realistically Cotto has to be in the frame in my opinion. Even though the first fight was clear, it was a good fight and it would obviously be for another belt at another weight even if it has got a bit of a paper feel on that front, there is an angle to work from. But honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Cotto loses to Geale or also looks like crap and scrapes through. Geale is a good fighter, GGG's power is just a game changer but if you read between the lines Geale will be a handful for Cotto. But again it looks like Canelo if he wins anyway.
Not looking good for Floyd, what does everyone think?
Floyd all ready said that he is not looking for a tough fight he even said it won't be a title fight.
No matter who he fights besides manny it will be lucky to get over a million buys. Floyd is going to go from making 200 million in one fight to 40 million when it is all said done for his next one.
He went from training for the biggest fight of his life to now training for just annother opponent.
he just beat the guy that was supposed to be the biggest threat of his career it's highly unlikely he will go back in for a big risk fight because he has nothing else to prove.
He has done everything there is to do in boxing except lose.
Actually they should be pushing Spence. Just like TR had Lomachenko on the undercard of May/Pac, Haymon should've had Spence as the co-main instead goddamn Cruz in another puff fight. Spence is 25 years old; Hearns, Leonard, even Mayweather were championship level fighters at his age. Haymon doesn't know/understand how develop fighters.
Mayweather is just coming off a massive career event that's been laying heavy on him for the past 5 years. That's going to have mental fatigue on him, he needs time off to recharge for his last hurrah. He always keeps himself in the gym staying in shape and sharp, time off won't hurt him, never has.
This time off is different, he's nearing 40 and it will hurt him. Fighters around that age don't possess that kind of all around speed, reflexes, the wisest choice is to maintain that sharpness. The opponents are already there for him, waiting for one to rise isn't something he likely cares about, in fact he may not even care if it's a tough outing or not.
He has a lot of options. I like any fight prett much. Except khan. Whatever that was last night...the last thing it was was deserving a Mayweather match.
I was thinking along the same lines last night, there's nobody left that's a legit opponent except for Cotto. Thuan had a punchers chance, that's all. Khan would be a joke. Garcia probably deserves it more than any one else, but no one wants to see that.
What if Mayweather retired? He has nothing left to prove and there is no one left to fight.
I like this idea, throw Matthsye and Brook in there too.

Mayweather is nearing 40, taking time off isn't what he needs at this point.

No one should buy a Khan-Floyd fight... It's Thurman/GGG/Lara or the fight should be boycotted, period. What possible chance does Khan have, really? I don't even think Thurman can win but at least has some real power to make it interesting, but he's too slow. Lara could keep it close on points but not what the fans want but vastly superior to a Khan fight.... GGG though possible at 154 is just fantasy.
Thurman is the most "realistic" choice where Floyd can still keep his reputation in tact.
floyd can do whatever he wants at this point. he owes no one anything.
he could fight a salka and i would pay to watch his last fight.
You'd pay?! :lol1: That's love.

you would pay to lick his underwear clean also
I don't think Mayweather shares your perspective. He's going to walk away with $40m regardless of who he fights, likely has no motivation and seems very eager to retire.
I don't think we see Floyd fight in September or maybe even this year. There's no buzz for it right now, the May/Pac result left a vacuum of excitement. I would think he'd want his farewell fight to be a big and glorious event and right now it might suffer from the hangover of his last event.
Let Thurman, Khan, Porter, Garcia, Broner battle it out and set him up with a worthy, unrushed opponent for next year.

Cotto could never fight in September. It is way too close to his June fight. If the fight was in November, maybe there could be a chance. But in September? No way.I don't like the idea of Cotto getting the fight but not because it is too soon to Cotto's june fight. If Cotto has no injuries he would have over 90 days to train for a September fight. That's twice as long as he needs. I think maybe you are to used to this era of many big star boxers fighting less than twice a year. Champions like Marvin Hagler defended their titles four times a year with no problems and thought nothing of it. Eight weeks is more than enough time for a fighter to prepare for a big fight unless he is way overweight.
It really doesn't matter, there is nothing he can do that would be as big as his last fight.
You should hope he fights someone as credible as Garcia or Khan because it could be a lot worse, if you care about the level of guy he is going to fight but really at this point what difference will it make?

At this point, he can't really lose. He's just made a quarter billion and was making record purses before that. I think his last fight will do decent numbers regardless. I'd like to see Thurman, Brook, or Cotto just to punk Canelo again and take the September date.
