Or maybe it was uninspiring stuff from Khan.
But I mean come on, people were mocking for losing to the second best fighter of this era. He beat Provodnikov with one eye so he won't fear anyone and now that he's got a trainer, I can see him being a top 10 guy. Very good performance, tough kid and he earned my respect, I had it 116-112 Khan. Not the best performance from Khan but he won the rounds.
P.S. And please don't even try and claim that Algieri won.
He is. Plus he has a competent trainer for once. I said this when it was announced. He also looked thick solid and tight at 147. He was probably draining to get to 140
this isnt a TERRIBLE fight.. he wasnt ready for pac but khans no pac, lets see what chris is made of
Styles make fights, Algieri towers Khan and used his size. Mayweather can't do the same, he can however outbox Mayweather and it will be a completely different fight to last night however Floyd should prevail.
Khan is not a natural fighter. There is no variety in his punches. He is like a wind up robot. He's in amazing shape, huge shoulders, fast hands, quick legs and seems to mesmerize various opponents with that hand speed. But fighting wise, there is little skill.
Khan's fights are always exciting because of his chin. Doesn't matter who he is in against there is always a possibility that he could get KTFO at anytime because of his chin.
I was surprised in this fight as he took a few clean shots and didn't go down like he usually does. Algieri must have absolutely no power at all.
CA clearly has the intelligence that Khan lacks.
He surprised me, and came out of a close fight with much more credit than Khan.
Khan's straight punches are decent, but his hooks are just flurries of arm punches, he has no timing inside at all.
CA controlled the pace and cut the ring really well.
Algieri really surprised me with his come-forward aggressive style and the intensity at which he did it. He pressured Khan, landed some great shots, dictated the pace (most of the fight) and was the aggressor. Very impressive performance by Chris.
The funny thing about this fight is, everyone is saying how impressive Algieri looked and how uninspiring Khan looked - yet Khan is the guy who won
it was an audacious gameplan, considering his strengths and weaknesses. i like algieri, he is a quintessential white american athlete: not especially gifted, but confident, determined and intelligent.
Algieri also said that he scored 4/5 knockouts in training and that JDJ said that he can punch and he does have good reflexes which he wasn't using before. #ChampionLifestyle
Throwing the most doesn't mean sh1t if they aren't landing. Like a lot of Khan's flurries which hit arms and gloves. Whilst Algieri was bouncing clean right hands and left hooks off his head. I had it a draw but I'll have to watch again.
I phrased that badly, punches thrown and the most landed with most accuracy. And Khan certainly did that, Algieri arguably landed the better punches but in moments and not consistently.
Algieri DID NOT WIN THE FIGHT. Boxing is not purely scored for the guy being the aggressor, it's about who lands the most, throws the most and has the highest accuracy as well as ring generalship and control of distance as well as a wide range of other factors.. I had it 8-4 and maybe 7-5 at worst but no way did Algieri win that. He was being aggressive but he definitely gave up rounds where he was getting outboxed. Good gameplan to throw Khan off as he definitely did not expect Algieri to be a pressure fighter. I've won amateur bouts being on the back foot for a all 3 rounds.

I actually thought Algieiri looks better fighting on the front foot...
He has a very decent chin and is pretty damn tough.
Get him on some PEDS and he will be a freak beast lol.
Dude, spare us with the baseless PED accusations. He looked stronger because he was facing one of the chinniest fighters the sport. That's why he looked stronger.
Anybody who shares the same ring as Amir looks stronger by default.
I've only watched Algieri a handful of times but he looked like a different fighter from the guy I seen before.
The gameplan from JDJ was solid from mixing the Danny Garcia (throw Sunday punches with Khan when he throws) and Peterson who was roughing him up on the inside.
And it's not just about the chin, he was walking through Khans punches who is a decent puncher like nothing. Maybe it's just the air down there in Miami that has so many athletes heading down there to train.
Props to Algieri and JDJ but with all the scandals coming from Miami my inner alex jones beeps anytime I hear a fighter/athlete training there.
Algieri usualy fights on the backfoot. the way he fought tonight threw khan off. great fight plan.
took khan a while to adjust.
had it khan 115-113
same score. as much as i hate khan i still thought he won. but he was still pathetic and doesnt deserve a pac or mayweather fight.

I'm a Khan fan but I had ALgieri winning, I can see a close win for Khan in there but 116-112 is ridiculous. Neither guy dominated, there were so many close rounds and Khan moved a lot but didn't throw effectively when Algieri was being the aggressor. Really surprised by ALgieri's change in style but it seemed to work, he landed at will with that fight hand and at times left hook. If only he had more power.
Depends how you're asking the question. . . He is better now than he was prior to switching trainers. Most people here can agree that, but off the backfoot pre Khan show I think he was pretty poor.
