Floyd Mayweather proved he could get the job done against an excuse minded Pacman the last time out. Obviously you can't blame Pac for trying to position himself for a rematch with an injury excuse to roll in the dough again. But thats not until next year and Floyd will just beat him again anyway. So I ask what is the biggest challenge for Mayweather at welterweight? GGG can't make that weight so he's out. Khan stylistically present one heck of a challenge. But people will say he didn't truly have a full camp and had to squeeze it in after ramadan. Besides that, the Mayweather that came out and took the fight to Pacman in the first 2 rounds probably puts Khan to the canvas. So I'm looking at Keith Thurman. The guy is big, underratedly well rounded and a boxer/puncher. He has the size and knows how to use it. He is in his physical prime and just pulled off a win against Guerrero (who beats most of the top WWs right now including Khan). Him and Brook both look excellent but Thurman's leg is not suspect from taking a machete to it. Disagree? Who is a bigger challenge?
Look at Thurman's fights, look at how he moves. There's no one else in the welterweight division who moves like that. I think that alone would frustrate Mayweather, plus Thurman's youth, size, and speed could have him landing even more than Maidana did.
I would like to see Thurman vs Mayweather, I really would have hoped that Thurman and Khan would've had fought each other so the winner of that fight gets the real boxing fans bragging rights to get the chance to fight Mayweather, but Thurman and Khan are fighting one sided mismatches next instead.
At this time, I think Amir Khan presents the biggest threat to Floyd's 0. I like Thurman, but he's a boxer puncher/counterpuncher and I can't see him out-thinking Floyd. If he catches Floyd with something big that might change, though.
don't know about being his biggest challenge, but i think thurman would give floyd more problems than brook.
ironically, i think brook beats thurman rather easily.
Miguel Cotto.
Lead hand dominant, commitment to his jab, strong body puncher, can cut the ring off, strong in the clinch and has the intangibles: toughness, experience, etc.
Yeah I know he only won 4 rounds but it is what it is. He has the tools to make the toughest fight.
I don't think so. Thurman hasn't got the right style to beat Floyd, the fight would a chess match, Thurman is at his best against aggressive fighters.
There's nothing wrong with Brook's leg btw, it's completely healed.
style wise i'm not sure how much of a challenge thurman presents. Mayweather needs to be roughed up and beaten up in a dirty fight like maidana did. Thurman has very good power, but hes gonna box and use that power from the outside which will allow floyd to stick and move and box circles
If the machete attack did any permanent damage to Brook it would have shown up even in a short fight. His footwork was as good as ever and I think leg damage is not an issue.
I think Thurman would be a little harder than Brook for Mayweather to beat. Both Brook and Thurman are very good welterweights and deserve a fight with Mayweather more than big mouth Khan. Khan is Mayweather's next fight in my opinion as long as he looks ok against Algieri.
