I'm sure this has been motivated by the whole May/Pac fiasco, fact is, for anyone who believed Pacquiao could win, they thought it was the same Pacquiao we saw in the ring 5 years ago. It's not. He has a high activity, high impact style, which causes a fighter to age quicker then someone who is a more defensive fighter, especially in the modern era. Hopkins, Mayweather and Wlad are prime examples of that. Both men are at or near the top at a point in their lives when fighters of old or fighters with different styles would have been shot to pieces.
Now, I do agree that certain aspects of modern judging and a new found love of squeezing wins, sqeeking through rounds and snekaing home a few punches, fighters have found a way to win, without having to engage. You can probably blame Emmanuel Steward and his time with Lennox Lewis, the Mayweathers and those that have come since. I believe that a 10 point must system isn't enough, there should be more even rounds scored when neither guy is hurting his opponent with rounds being given to the guy who is managing to hurt their opponent. Effective aggression is still a scoring criteria but it is the single most over looked criteria in boxing today.
I think you are under the impression that boxing somehow gives each of its competitors an equal set of skills. Newsflash some guys are faster, some are stronger, some have better chins, some have better skills. But hey if the science isnt what you're looking for there is always this http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/1aeaa8895ef7e657e762526546cf84931e135b61/c=180-51-1359-936&r=x404&c=534x401/local/-/media/USATODAY/USATODAY/2014/08/14/1408051482000--D8B1037BW.jpg
running, and mma'ing, that's what the so called p4p king in boxing is all about, pathetic really! and funny how his fans always b1tch about how he's not getting much credit, lol
Or you can have 2 Highly Athletic and Skills fighters like DeGale vs Dirrell who can both move their feet, cut the ring off and force their opponents to engage which is what I watched both DeGale and Dirrell do yesterday and because the talent level was EVEN, that produced a good fight
Should I be upset at a Boxer who takes advantage of another Boxers limited athleticism and overall boxing skills? You want to be upset at somebody, be upset at your favorite fighter trainer for doing a sh1t job and not making your guy a complete fighter!
Rules are not going to change to help YOUR GUY! Foreman had to chase down Ali so did Frazier. Sandy Saddler chased down Willie Pep and got dirty with him to get into his head and found a way to beat him
Do us a favor and stop watching boxing so we can stop hearing you b1tch about how rules need to change because your fighter has 2 Left Feet and can't cut the ring off. Or because your guy is clueless when it comes to Inside Fighting aka Dirty Boxing. The opponent shouldn't fight in a way that suits and benefits his opponents! Are some of you really that fukin stupid or are some of you just trolling:thinking:
I like Miguel Vazquez footwork and never ending supply of stamina, you want a good match from Vazquez, put him in with somebody just as athletic and watch you get a good fight! For Example I think Miguel Vazquez vs Jorge Linares would be a excellent fight because Linares have the athleticism to match. Just an example of how to match up guys people call boring. Abner Mares vs Chemito Moreno was a good fight and Moreno is considered boring, but Mares had the footwork and knows how to cut off the ring so he was able to chase Moreno down and outwork him.
It is not about the fighters styles for me it is about the MATCH UPS! If you're putting this talent in with some Flat Footed Power Puncher, you're going to get a sh1t match up and a mismatch in overall talent. If you match the talent with the talent and the Brawlers with the Brawlers you get a great match like Ruslan vs Matthysse, that worked because their styles work. Matthysse is more of a boxer/puncher than a Brawler IMO but he has Power to catch Ruslan attention which he was able to do multiple times.
A lot of you don't want your guy to prove his greatness because you're uncertain of it yourself, so you want people to just hand the fighters you like "GREATNESS". To achieve Greatness you have to not only take on all styles, you also have to SHOW that you can defeat ALL STYLES! The Great Chavez Sr was fighting styles that matched up well with him but pressure from fans made him test himself and get in with guys even Im sure he knew would give him problems like Meldrick Taylor, Frankie Randall and Pernell Whittaker.
Mayweather being the money man in the sport and considered the best in the sport probably rubs off on other fighters. We've seen the likes of Andre Berto come out and try to counter punch while in a shoulder roll stance and it was just pathetic. Or young fighters adoring Mayweather's status and money, such as Broner and probably fighting in a way to emulate him that doesn't even suit him.
What some fail to realise is that Mayweather has that style down to a fine art and it cannot be emulated. It takes a high level of skill and concentration to win fights clearly while mostly on the back foot. But it's become a trend to try and "outrun" or defend your way to a win.
Not blaming Floyd for it of course, i think he's the best boxer in the sport and a joy to watch if you understand the nuances of the game. But that is the problem. Fighters now think that is the way to get to the pinnacle of the sport but they don't have all those little nuances and skills that he does to win comfortably in that manner against great opposition so you have guys trying to not lose and making it a very close decision.
one fighter running one fighter chasing
growing number of dumbo fans: woww that fighter that is running is so smart and skilled....
demand is high

No, boxing is the same. The problem is there are people like you who are new to the sport and believe boxing only has one style and one scenario each fight.
That's what happens when you love the fighter and not the sport. Expand your mind if you're capable.
i watch all fights and enjoy boxing. some of yall are just babies that never fought a real fight. if its so easy lets see yall get in the ring and trade with them:bottle::bottle::bottle::bottle:
There was a time when holding and hooking was rampant in the NHL. Hockey purists claimed that it was an essential part of the game. Others claimed that it slowed down the game and made it boring and uninteresting for many and that it impeded the flow of new fans to the game. So what did the powers that be in the game of hockey do? They put their foot down and insisted that the referees start enforcing the penalties against holding and hooking that were already in the books.
The result? Players like Gretzky were able to open up their game and become stars. Players like Sidney Crosby were able to flourish in the sport. The game opened right up and became faster, more goals were being scored and people who ignored the sport of hockey started watching it. The game became exciting to watch for them. Add in a couple of small changes such as overtime and then a shootout to resolve tie games and removing the red line to eliminate off side passes led to even faster action and more goals which resulted in more fans. And taking advantage of new technology to resolve borderline goal calls and other things helped as well.
What did that do for the sport as a whole? It went from being a fringe sport ignored in the US to getting a 2 BILLION DOLLAR contract from US television and in 2013 a $5.2 Billion deal with Canadian cable broadcaster, Rodgers.
All that boxing needs is proper enforcement of existing rules and to make use of the new technologies available such as video monitors to help judges to do a better job. Things like that ridiculous 117-109 result in yesterday's fight should simply not happen. It makes boxing look as bad as Olympic figure skating. The rules are there. Enforce them. The sport will improve 50% from that alone.
Reminder to myself to give you a GREEN!
The boxer job is to know how to cut off the ring with foot work, yes I understand no body likes a runner, but you also have to root for the other guy to cut off the ring and look good doing it. I like all styles of fighting, I can watch a Whitaker vs Chavez or a Rigondeaux vs Donaire or a Mayweather vs Paquiao. I also like a Chico vs Castillo or a Hagler vs Hearns fight as well. I like it all to be honest.

why parry a punch or bob and weave when you can clinch
why slip and slide when you can run
and get hundreds of millions in doing so
when murican clinch and run it's called sweet science
when russian do it what's it called?

Boxing needs to penalize people who don't engage, and overtly clinching, clinching when hurt is okay but when you clinch anytime someone gets close just to avoid taking shots should be an enforced penalty, the only way to make boxing exciting is to be tougher on fighters who break these rules.
Floyd would have like 10 losses with that rule
OP the nice thing i like about boxing IS the different styles in the sport , it helps the diversity of the fights and makes it more intresting to me , if you dont like Floyd , you can stop watching him , I am not his fan , not even close , but when i watch his fights there is something to admire , just hear other boxers talk about him like he is the Michael jordan of boxing , not fans , boxers.
As in Soccer , we have the Morinou teams of the world and we have the barcelona`s , both have success and both play soccer within the rules , is barcelone more eye catching and fan friendly - sure , is chelese a great team , you bet your ass.
Oh my damn. Where do I even begin with this? The guy listed 3 fighters who are masters of range control and said that they "always stayed in range".
He then proceeds to list 4 fighters out of a trillion to demonstrate how every boxer has a running style. After that he blames this for the demise of the sport, whilst ignoring the fact that boxing has been declining in popularity long before Floyd Mayweather. Then he concludes by insulting the sweet science by calling it 2 guys standing there and punching their brains out. Totally disrespecting the thousands of boxers that have suffered brain damage for his entertainment.
First of all, boxing is far from dead Floyd, Pac and Wlad are among the highest paid athletes in the world.
But that's another topic for another day. Let's address the elephant in the room.
This isn't about boxing. This is about Floyd beating Pac and you being butthurt about it. One of those " change the rules so my favorite fighter can be the best" rants.
Amen bro. If only Pac won, there would be no "hugging, running" comments. Unfortunately, he lost so ...
Willie Pep, Benitez, Whitaker...they stayed within range but still avoided shots. The problem is the running, clinching, turning your back, going for a stroll. Floyd, Lara, Rigondeaux, Algieri, Sugar Ray in Duran II. And the very fans defending this style is the reason boxing is fading. There is a market out there for this style, and the style wins fights, so we see more and more of it out there. Somebody was trying to be smart by saying "oh yeah, let's just have 2 guys stand there and punch their brains out." Guess what "boxing" is? It's exactly that, you fool! The slickness is supposed to be to get in position to deliver your shots while avoiding your opponents. Avoiding the fight is NOT boxing!

Quote: There are claims that Willie Pep won the third round in his fight against Jackie Graves in a fight on July 25, 1946, without throwing a punch.
