I know not many people are giving James a chance, but IMO this is a good good fight.
Probably the best one that can be made at SMW atm. I would love to see it rather than move the fighters from their divisions.
I think the experienced gained from this fight will make Degale an even better fighter and as a result he's in with a serious shot to dethrone Ward once and for all.
Only thing James is lacking is experience. He lost some middle rounds tonight due to that. He deliberately took his foot off gas, saving it for the later rounds, although he didn't have to.
He will only be better and better.
Ward-DeGale would be a great fight, not one sided at all.
So many people keep bringing up Ward's name as if he hasn't been inactive for 1 1/2 years and what version of him will return after that and surgery...and what version he will be against someone real...not the bum he will face next month. He may be done as a boxer...or maybe not the same guy. Maybe he will be better than ever...but I will wait and see about Ward before getting excited about watching him now.
Close friend of mine saw Chunky melt badly in Marbella about 4 years ago to a nutty crazy looking Russian who properly put it all over James and Chunky didn't want any of it! I believe my mans word too. Could of just been that he didn't want to lose his boxing license and career but still, he certainly gave a **** lol.
Yes. Good fight. DeGale and the Jack-Groves winner should tide Ward over until Golovkin finds his testicles.
Last I checked Ward was inactive for 2 years and now is asking for at least 2 tuneup fights before he is ready to face an elite opponent like GGG. Inform yourself before posting, casual fan.
Nice to see a challenger emerge for Ward in the Division. Nobody at 168 is beating Ward though and no his Layoff is not going to somehow take away his Skills. In fact I think that Layoff will preserve his body and extend his career. Wouldn't be shocked if he comes back BETTER than he was before which would be scary.
I like DeGale a lot though, I have him #2 at 168 right now and I think he would school the rest in the Division
Would like to see this after Ward's tuneup. DeGale seems willing to travel and he's not a Haymon guy so I don't see why it can't get made. Maybe in New York or Atlantic City?

This is the only fight that makes sense to me as a fight fan, unless Ward wants to move up. I don't wana see Ward v any more Paul Smith like characters.
In terms of the fight itself, Ward would win, he is the bigger, stronger guy in there and would just out muscle and out steam DeGale in the middle rounds as Chunky can gas too soon. But, DeGale has shown, time and time again that he has the hand speed, foot work and technical ability to lay hands on anyone in the division and Ward would get tagged quite a bit early. But after round 4, he would probably adjust and simply outwork DeGale down the stretch.
Maybe Chunky needs a better personal trainer.
He doesn't fade late, he coasts in the mid-late rounds and finishes pretty strong. But even with that, he's usually wayyyy ahead on the xards. I dunno what degale was doing for most of the middle rounds. That's a big hole in his game. He will never beat an elite guy like that.
I've seen him hold on a lot late in fights, lost the late rounds to Froch and held Abraham a lot late too.
Not sure what DeGale was doing in the middle rounds either, maybe coasting because he was in the lead or a gap in fitness. Showed good desire in the last round though, Dirrell really needed that one and DeGale took it.
Degale said Ward is 1 and him and Dirrell are top 2. So he knows Ward is better, but let's go for it
Ward is 1 because he's proven he's the best SMW in the world. DeGale was just giving him that respect.
Ward's cardio isn't that great late in fights either, he fades a bit after the 9th.
We still need to see where he's at too.

Yeah but not Degale...it just that in facing Dirrell, Chunky knew he wasn't in there wit ha complete fighter who could take FULL advantage.
Ward is a complete fighter.
