Alexander Povetkin vs Mike Perez
Grigory Drozd vs Lukasz Janik
Rakhim Chakhkiev vs Junior Anthony Wright
Alex Leapai vs Manuel Charr
Dmitry Kudryashov vs Vikapita Meroro
I think this card starts at 5pm U.K time (3 and 1/2 hours) will double check in 5.
I actually thought that in Danny Jacobs versus Caleb Truax and I was ringside for that so understand where you are coming from.
The way Perez reacted to the punches was so weird though. It wasn't like a JMM versus Pac first round knockdowns, he just seemed so flummoxed.
Look at his face when he is falling in the last knockdown.
I think that did him in.
Absolutely not, after the first knockdown he didn't know where he was, he should have called it off then and there, almost got him killed with the second knockdown.
You both make good points but, I think the ref should assess a fighter before automatically calling it off, except in cases where the fighter is on canvas unconscious or incapacitated.
If you look at the replay, after the Povektin celebration, Perez is seen on his feet shortly after next too the ref. Based on that, it didn't seem like he was hurt enough to have to remain on the canvas.
It was a sensational KO and I think the ref was just a little caught off guard
Does anyone think the ref waived off the fight prematurely? After the second knockdown, it looked like the ref automatically waived the fight? Is this what happened? Why didn't he give Perez the count?

I don't think so. To me he honestly looked like he didn't know where he was.
The way he fell and stumbled both times looked so bad, I think the ref freaked a little.
I thought the call was fine.
Many on here were mad becuz they thought he could've gotten killed had it gone on.
Hyperbole sure, but safety first.
I don't want to see a guy get damaged but it wasn't like Perez was lying on the canvas sparked out
I think the ref should've at least assessed him before automatically waiving the fight off - practically before Perez even hit the canvas. The ref rushed to judgement and didn't give Perez a chance to demonstrate if he was in fact OK to fight or not OK. You give the fighter the benefit of doubt before pulling the plug so quickly
We've all watched fights where there were 'flash knockdowns' early on in the fight - only for the fighter who got knocked down to comeback and make a fight of it.

That retarded ref almost got Perez killed he was in no mans land after the first KD, luckily the second KD that ended it wasn't a big shot.
He reminded me a little bit of Pulev in the Klitschko fight. :lol1:
Pulev must either be mad or have a chin made out of steel. He must have been through a severe depression I guess.
f ucking lol at some of you, accusing PEDS as soon as someone gets a KO.
so pathetic, perez was not in povetkins class, he is a shadow of his former self since turning magomed into a vegetable...
he should hang them up tbh
wouldnt mind seeing a rematch with takam tho tbh.
ps: Sashas misses looks like shes from LOTR, what a dreamboat :luvbed:
I totally agree, Charr is terrible in terms of skill level, but he was fairly durable. Vitali could not knock him out clean as Povetkin did.
Vitali was a shell at that point, legs completely gone. The Vitali that fought Lewis would put Charr's lights out in a round.
To be fair i never known Vatali as a one punch KO puncher, he couldnt knock out Briggs and didnt knock out Chisora, like Haye did.
Vitali still has the 2nd highest KO percentage in history. He was definitely a harder puncher than Povetkin, one punch or combination. In the Chisora fight he was old and injured, and the Briggs bout was just terrible and should have been stopped.
10th. It seems all the more surprising considering he still had the power that late on to knock out someone as durable and sturdy as Takam in such brutal fashion.

And Takam, he may have been worn down but the finish was brutal and caused by 1 punch or maybe 2. Perez...he was decent, he almost beat Jennings who did well against Wlad.
These 3 wins are pretty much on par or better with anything Fury or Wilder have done, and in far more impressive fashion.

To top it he comes in weighing the heaviest of his career yet looks lean as hell?
Goes from a soft, doughy 225lbs with love handles to a lean 233lb.
Sorry something doesn't add up.
Takam went into the 9th or 10th rd don't remember , this fight might just be a case of got caught early but if you look at both KO's they were similar in that the punches landed accurate/clean inside the guard right on the chin.

Charr's crap and Takam was worn down with an accumulation of punches, with a late stoppage. Perez was never good either and could've just got caught cold.

Even still its mightily suspicious to me how he couldn't even stop the likes of Firtha and much lesser and lesser durable fighters he hit with everything but the kitchen sink. He couldn't put a dent in a cruiserweight (I know Hucks tough but still) now all of a sudden he is flattening opponents.
I'm a fan I've followed his career for years but IMO its real suspicious. He was never a big puncher by any stretch all of a sudden he is a one punch knockout artist getting highlight reel K.O after highlight reel K.O at the age of 35? Hmm.
Anyone suspicious of PED use for Povetkin? He is knocking guys out that have never been stopped before and in scary fashion. It's not even accumulation - he is essentially ending fights with 1 punch, something even Wlad isn't doing lately. He was never this powerful prior to the Wlad fight, and with Russian athletes known for doping...all i'm saying is, it's a bit fishy and I don't buy that Povetkin becomes this offensive beast just due to being in slightly better shape and perhaps more committed.
I may make a separate thread on this if it sparks a discussion.
