On one level it makes no sense for Oscar to make that fight.
But on the other hand, Oscar probably looks at his own career and sees that despite his losses in some of his big fights (Tito, Shane, Hopkins) he was still a monster PPV draw at the end of it.
Maybe he sees that as the route Canelo can take. You could look at Canelo taking the Lara fight and argue that's the way they're going.
Had'nt really thought of it from that angle, but it does make sense. Canelo has'nt shyed away from tough competition. People can say what they will about the outcomes of his fights or his skill level, but the kid is'nt lacking in the balls department and is the type of fighter that an L here or there is'nt going to affect much. Guess we will know more Saturday night after the Kirkland fight which is actually the fight I've been super excited to see. My boy getting his chance against Canelo. :boxing:
You're nitpicking. You're saying he didn't "directly" say he wants to unify the titles as if it is some magic word, but after he fought Stevens he said he wanted to fight Martinez and Quillin (the two other major title holders). It's the same thing. This was back in 2013 too, not "after cotto beat Martinez."
You're right.
I think the issue is when people bring up Hagler or someone staying at one weight their whole career, the divisions were good. Nowaday's you need move up to keep the challenge fresh not pick on bums forever. GGG can move up, Vladimir cannot so he has no other option. GGG would gain more respect for beating Ward and Froch than if he were to KO Quillin, Canelo and Cotto. However, the fact is he would get more fame beating the smaller guys.
I just wish GGG were being real, if he wanted legacy he would beat the SMW's. Instead he wants money and fame under the guise of legacy and unification. It might be his promoter or whatever, this is what is happening though. You know what though, I really don't have a problem with it. But he needs to understand that Cotto and Canelo are doing the same thing and avoiding GGG is best for their fame and fortune. Like Cotto said, they need to just wait their turn.

i'm guessing that hbo will try to force the fight too. alvarez will face cotto and lemieux and then the golovkin unification will be a ppv event for summer next year
A title holder fighting another title holder = unification bout...
Now you are nitpicking. He didn't come out and SAY "i want to unify division" until the cotto fight came up.
Andrade seriously disappointed me not taking that Korobov fight. I get it. You want to unify your division, but opportunities just don't come along like that very often. Kid needs to brand himself and his inactivity is'nt doing him any favors.
I have no doubt Canelo would love to fight GGG. Not sure Oscar would let that happen.

I just don't get why he says keep his name out of their mouth. They never go out of their way to mention it. It's the reporters who constantly ask about it so they respond. What else are they supposed to do? Avoid answering the question? If they did that, I could see people using that against them.
Ward is a retarded d-bag. He's going off about how Loeffler's being dishonest with the fans and how he likes to be 'real'.

F*ck-off Andre, F*ck-off. Go keep it real in front of those 90million viewers on BET.
We know Ward is full of sh*t, even in the interview the cameraman was like "Okay, take this opportunity to let everyone know..." And Ward can't even say GGG's name and just says this is the last time I'm going to talk about it. He didn't even say anything except, he told GGG's promoter to stop talking about a fight happening and when asked if he would fight GGG his answer was "I'm not talking about this again."
We get it Andre, you're scared.

Andre Ward - April 2013:
I'm going to tell you this: Chavez Jr is not an easy fight. A lot of people say but that's not an easy fight. He's a big kid, he's a strong kid and he can punch.

Andre Ward - January 2014:
Right now Carl Froch is behind the scenes trying to get what he percieves as the weak link, which Chavez Jr. ... He doesn't want a real challenge...

Andre Ward - December 2011:
Going up to light heavyweight for the right fight -- not to campaign up there, but for the right fight -- is an option. So we've just got to sit back and see what makes sense. I think I earned the right to pick the right fight for the right price.

Andre Ward - March 2013:
I answered the question and said I would be willing to fight Floyd at 160 if that fight ever came about.

Andre Ward - April 2013:
“I want to , I’ve talked about that since I’ve been a kid,” Ward said, apparently straight-faced. “It seems crazy right now, but I’m not gonna be sixty-eight forever.” “You got to fight the right heavyweight,” he admitted, but added: “As a fighter, I believe I could beat a Klitschko… I’m wired to believe that…I think it could happen, absolutely.”
F*ck-off Andre, F*ck-off. Go keep it real in front of those 90million viewers on BET.
Canelo fight could happen. Cotto fight obviously won't happpen.
What happened with Andrade and the WBO belt again?

Golovkin doesn't wanna get Pacquiao'd. One of the biggest hypejobs in recent memory.
Mayweather didn't want to get Pacquiao'd, that's why he waited 6 years until Pacman slowed down.
Ward is full of it, yapping about a Golovkin fight while in a courtroom with Goossen now he's supposedly able to fight and he's coming at Loeffler not to mention him.
Golovkin doesn't wanna get Pacquiao'd. One of the biggest hypejobs in recent memory.
Hypejobs are fighter's like Chavez Jr or Berto where other fighters and their teams have no fear of fighting and realize its only a matter of time until they are exposed. Golovkin is the farthest thing from a hypejob..Roach has said Golovkin might be #1 p4p and has the best footwork in boxing. Robert Garcia said that GGG may be the greatest middleweight of all time. An entire division is scared of him. Nobody notable at 168 would fight him immediately. I doubt all of these people are fools just buying into the "hype".
Lmao @ GOLOVKIN, and his dim witted, blow hard, dic.k riding. this whopper still has me on ignore, has had me on ignore for over a year now. This guy is highly amusing, he cares nata about embarrassing himself. He is literally the biggest fan boy on the entire site.
Contract ! What contract ? GGG don't want to face Ward, the only time Ward opens up about GGG is when he says, stop using my name unless you want to fight me, upon hearing this team GGG go quiet for 12 months.
Ward is as blindly hated on as Mayweather is, it is truly pathetic.
Only two guys that I think beat GGG are'nt in his division lol. Andrade and Ward are the only fighters from 154-168 that could give him real work imo. This is what pisses me off about people not fighting him. Just let the man unify so he can move on and the rest of the MW's can fight it out in what is an otherwise competitive division if you remove GGG. The only real money fights for GGG at 160 are Cotto/Canelo and I just don't see those fights happening.

Who at MW would any of you favor over GGG?
Quillin? Cotto? Canelo?

a couple of names at 168... oh wait he wants to unify first... oh wait he only mentions cotto when it comes to unification... oh wait before cotto won he wasn't talking about unifications.
Nobody good at 168 has seriously tried to make a fight with him.
Also, you are agreeing that his entire division wants nothing to do with him...which is embarrassing for them, but certainly not Golovkin's fault.
Yes, because after one and a half year lay off one tune up fight is a terrible cowardness. Sit your ignorant ass down please. Ward will be relevant again soon and will keep his 0 against elite opponents. + he has one of the best resumes from current fighter in boxing so you aimed the wrong person with your shot. Enjoy the time till he is not relevant because it won't last long.
Ali didn't need a tune up after being out for THREE AND A HALF YEARS!!!!! He then fought three times in 5 months against Quarry, Bonavena and Frazier! Not exactly tune up fights. Ward comes back after a year and a half and fights some empty can on BET. Yeah, he is really in a position to talk.
As for Ward's resume, other than the Super Six, it is a piece of crap filled with nobodies up until the tournament and ending with two drained LHWs. It is worthless.
