Greetings fellow boxing fans. Amir khan has received a fierce backlash for choosing to fight Chris Algeri. The Pro Brook community have been the strongest voices within this backlash and to be fair..even as a khan fan i can admit Khan deserves the backlash for his choice to face algeri instead of a top name welterweight.
However it's not been announced by Eddie Hearn and Brook himself that they are in talks to face Brandon rios. They talk about facing the big fights...the Marquez, the thurmans, the bradleys...but now they are picking Brandon Rios? furthermore FRANKIE GAVIN!! is being mentioned as a potential opponent for Brook?
So getting to my point...is this not hypocritical from the Brook camp? from those criticizing Khan's choice of opponent (justifiably so of course). Does Brook not deserve a backlash for facing either these opponents when as a champion he could pick any top welterweight with the exception of pac and mayweather?
Your thoughts please.
brook's a good fighter but i don't ever want to see him fight someone who comes forward again. we know he will just hold nonstop wlad style so please pick a boxer type. if you watch the first carson jones fight he got beat up because he didn't hold nonstop but he corrected that and developed wlad's holding style and now he's great just like wlad lol
Haha he was when he was a proponent of KOs for life. He's a real threat to Kel though so I've got to pick sides on this one.
The British are coming! The British are coming!
name them?
top welters:
Floyd - busy
Manny - busy
Marquez - contemplating retiring
Khan - doesn't want the work
Bradley - likely won't be willing to travel
Brook
Thurman - risk/reward, injury suspension through July
Rios isn't the "omg, I can't wait" fight, but who are all of these other 'better options'?
bradley said he would fight anyone anywhere so just stop with that bull*****
Dont forget bradley has already fought in the UK and he was supposed to fight brook back then but brook was too scared an went life and death with carson jones instead. what about maidana?
One thing I've found very interesting is that, in the month or so since Thurman beating Guerrero, we've heard absolutely nothing in the media about Thurman and who he plans on fighting next.
Thurman can't fight in Nevada until July and can't even have contact until May due to the hematoma on his head according to NSAC.
Eh? Where did you hear that?
Keith Thurman: suspended until June 6, with no contact until May 7 due to hematoma on forehead.
A goggle search and i found that.
Kell Brook is looking to set up money fights; if they could get Brook vs Marquez from Bramall Lane, he takes that fight without hesitation. If Khan would accept the June 13th Wembley fight, that'd be fine too.
Kell Brook, at this point in time, is starting to emerge as a UK/US crossover star; Hearn, his promoter, is simply targeting fights that will keep Brook on Sky Sports/Showtime.
Tim Bradley isn't going to England, Keith Thurman is still on the short end of that risk/reward calculation and is facing a medical suspension through July, and the top two guys at the weight are facing off against each other.
Outside of Marcos Maidana (still enjoying those Floyd paydays, though targeting an August return), how far down the list is Rios really?
Doubt that Rios could actually win the fight, but he's got some name value stateside and he seems rugged enough to put forward a good fight; it's a stay-busy fight, and a pretty decent one at that.
Eh? Where did you hear that?
Sorry there are many worthy boxers for the champion
Brook is the title holder, his existence shudnt be based on Amirr Khan
There is no excuse to why he shud hold a title hostage just because he doesn't get a fight with Khan..
Brooks has had enough fun fights against 30 odd bums

Please don't try to compare Rios to Algieri. Algieri is the 8th ranked 140 pounder in the world. Sorry. Wrong weight class. Too small. Algieri is coming directly off the most one sided loss in history. Algieri can't punch at all even at 140. Rios is the 10th ranked welterweight in the world and that is the weight class Khan and Brook compete in. Rios is a dangerous puncher with both hands and he has two wins since his loss to Pacquiao including a smashing KO of Alvarado. Rios is a decent opponent for Khan or Brook and Algieri is not a good opponent for either of them at this time. If Algieri beats a good welterweight then he would qualify as a good opponent. He was an undefeated champion when Pacquiao fought him and he was still a cherry pick for Manny.
I actually like Frankie, but at this point in time it is a laughable notion. Especially when you're criticizing others for boxing Algieri.
How is Rios ahead? Rios' best win is Mike Alvarado whose best win is Brandon Rios.
Algieri's best win Provodnikov smashed through Alvarado and made him quit on stool.
Furthermore, Rios is horribly limited as seen vs Abril and arguably shot.
Gavin is sh1t so is Algieiri.
Rios is OK - just decent enough.
It's a back-handed compliment to say Rios is a bad opponent 2nd defence in. Brook is building his profile, and why not a fighter as wholly committed as Rios? He doesn't have the speed of foot of Porter, but there again he's more compact and doesn't wing his shots.
As easy as it is to downgrade now, coming to the US and taking the title from Porter was a massive statement for Brook's ability and mindset. And so Brook is the bogeyman in the sense that he raised the bar and still represents an unknown quantity to the rest of the division.
Brook will stop Rios at this stage. I think it's a decent, world class voluntary. No one else will step in the ring with the special one at the moment so why not?
why don't Thurman and brook fight?? or do they like to fight smaller old guys
Chaves was slightly ahead, but Rios was coming on strong. I don't really think Chaves was winning like that. He was getting more and more uncomfortable as Rios relentlessly applied the pressure. And Rios' pressure is very calculated and effective.
Nah disagree, I thought Chaves was very comfortable at the time of the DQ, Rios was getting frustrated and complaining more and more as the rounds went by. I had Chaves 1 point up, plus he was and he was winning the round he got DQ'd, if you take away the stupid point deductions, he was a few points up. He didn't clinch anywhere near as many times as Brook will.
Believe me mate, it's an easy fight for Brook.
I don't see Brook having any problems with predictable, come-forward robots like Rios. He can be outboxed and ouoworked by more athletic swarmer like Porter imo.
