The fight was an absolute disgrace. Klitschko should have had a point deduction in the first round, another one in the second and eventually been DQ'd. He fought like a spineless coward vs Povetkin, he did not box but wrestle him out of the ring.
I believe that the Povetkin of current form, who is in much better shape than in his fight vs Wlad, has an excellent chance of knocking Klitschko out in the rematch with a fair referee. Your thoughts?
he should have been warned. wlad is no golota so he probably wouldn't have kept clinching with any warnings. I think he made it even harder for himself with the holding. he likely would have stopped povetkin if the ref would have warned him. povetkin had no answer for wlads short left hook on the inside and wlad literally kept him from falling a couple times by grabbing him when he was clearly on the way down and hurt
Exactly, Wlad is no Golota, what a bull**** thread really!
What could we expect if Wlad didn't hold?
Possibly 2 more upset KO losses at most, AND in compensation.. He probably would have knocked out almost every other opponent he ever faced who escaped and DEFINITELY would have stopped them all in the very early rounds, more in line with young Wlad's performance.
The guy basically extends the fights longer through these tactics of completely eliminating inside boxing, which in the process protects him from risk and practically guarantees him the win.
Good work I say. The guy has barely lost a ROUND of boxing in over 10 years FFS!
He should of gotten a warning, there were some really ridiculous initiated clinches in that fight. With literally half his body on Povetkin.
Also wish Povetkin would of stopped leaning in and putting his head on the inside. He didn't keep any distance to keep punching, just a swinging left or right then he would find himself WAY too close to Wlad to even escape the clinch.
Yeah let's blame Povetkin.
To the majority who said and voted Wlad should be D'Qed...he wasn't even warned? Maybe we should take Alis majority wins away to,since he was the king of clinchin and holding the neck down?these are the same reasons people would be crying that Klitchko k.os bums in a few rounds, but then complain that he clinches to much to keep the fight somewhat entertaining instead of getting an instant k.o?...he could've ended that fight at any round he really wanted from round one to the end,the more round Wlad continues to go the more sharp he stays ...I don't think people get it yet he picks and chooses wghich fights he really wants the k.o for the most part. this one was just a play safe get the rounds in one becsuase he knew he was in no danger even at Povetkins level..
:la::la:

Based on overall - undoubtedly. Absolutely no question about it.
However, the likely scenario is that Wlad gets warned a few times and stops clinching.
Now he wasn't fighting a boxer of the calibre of a Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis or George Foreman but a guy with all due respect a few notches below in Alexander Povetkin. He could do everything better than Povetkin but he still felt he needed to commit the most egregious clinching that has ever been in a HW championship fight. This shows an extreme lack of confidence and knowledge that he is sporting a chin made out of the most fragile material known to mankind!
what about your boy fury leaning and holding and hitting a guy half his size with no power at heavyweight. nothing worse than a hippocrit. at least povetkin was dangerous on the inside unlike opie cunningham

people are giving Povetkin way too much credit...
he really had no strategy for wlad and even without the excessive holding wlad would've beaten him soundly...it was just wlad taking the safe route to a victory as always
povetkin really isn't anything special...he's faster than most top heavies and he's a pretty good combination puncher but he's very predictable and hittable
that being said I'd love to see him vs stiverne
Of course it's on the bloody ref!
Klitschko's STYLE if you will, is to do whatever is necessary to win.
Had the ref warned him, he would have not held so much, simple as that!
He would never have been DQ'd under any circumstances.. OBVIOUSLY!
All you can really say, is that Povetkin deserves a rematch with Wlad with a ref that WILL warn him, and atleast then we can see if there'd be a different outcome!
Agree???
No it's not all on the ref. The ref didn't make Klitschko hold. If you commit a crime and don't get convicted/punished for the crime does it mean you didn't commit the crime?
I'm not arguing whether Wlad was committing a crime or not, he clearly was...it seems we agree on that. I'm just saying the ref is the only one with the power to give warnings and issue a DQ - and he did nothing.
It's the ref's fault,, he was allowing Wlad to clinch.. Had he been warning him and taking away points, then yeah Wlad deserved to be DQ.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Well, usually to be DQ'ed you have to be warned first...so it's all on the ref.
I felt like all I could talk about before that fight was that the ref was going to have to make a decision about how 30 seconds in the fight...and he decided he was going to do nothing.
Yes, that was disgusting on Wlad's part.

ahaha this is pathetic.
Seriously this is the last fight I've watched with Wladimir. I remember at the end of this fight I thought to myself "I'm never watching that guy again, this is a joke". I didnt watch Klitschko - Leapai, Pulev and not planning to watch Jennings.
The only fight I would accept to watch is Wilder - Klitschko, for the simple reason that Wilder is taller than Wlad so he would have to use a somewhat different strategy than Jab-Hold with a few left hook.
It isn't even possible to make a highlight video of the fight without including the holding and other fouling Klit was doing. After all he clinched significantly more than the number of punches he landed in the fight.
But there IS exactly a highlight video without the clinches on YouTube, google it and click the one that ISN'T the parody.
Sure, we all know the complete fight including the other half was a stinker, nobody's claiming otherwise.
Tell me though, how do you KNOW Povetkin isn't at the level of Tyson, Lewis etc?
Did Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis ever fight Alexander Povetkin? Of course not!
What I do know is this...
If Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis ever did fight Alexander Povetkin, then he would have been one of the best opponents either of them had ever faced!
I think current Povetkin and the BEST Tyson were of comparable ability.
And I also think Mike Tyson would have been tied up similarly against Wlad, and beaten up inbetween holds also.
