Kovalev apparently responded to Beterbiev on facebook, rough translation:
"It's interesting that he said he beat me at something, when is it that you beat me? In your dreams?
We met twice, in sparring the first 2 rounds the back of your head was touching your arse, then in rounds 3 and 4 I got tired and you couldn't do anything with me! You were hitting air as if you were shadow boxing! The whole Russian team will confirm it who was in Kislovodsk.
And second time in Russian championship tourney the judges gave Beterbiev gift decision, because no one had my back and I was boxing alone against the whole corrupt commission of Magnitogorsk.
What now? there's no need to lie to the public Artur! Earn your shot with me and then I will punish you.
There's no need to pass lies for truth, as of now you turned down a fight with Chilemba, this tells us you pissed your pants"

Well the Cloud fight was the first one where he actually made 175 and he was a HW in the AMs, so I don't think it's real easy for him.
might explain he's insane strength
Usyk beat him both times, once in the Olympics and the other in the world champs in 2012. They were close fights though.... I'm sure you could find the video on youtube
Yep, the one on youtube is an excellent fight. Artur dropped Usyk with a body shot, then Usyk gets up and puts it into another gear that Artur couldn't really match. High quality stuff.
does he have trouble making weight?

I thought Adonis did that in 2013 ... ;)
Pfft. Merely a flash in the pan. Aducknis saw Sergey coming and he preferred flushing himself down the toilet as went his career. :Flush:
They fought in the ams? Wasn't aware of that...or I just forgot, because thinking back now it does ring a slight bell. Have you got a link to that result?

Hopefully we get to see Kovalev/Stevenson while Beterbiev picks up more pro experience. Not sure Beterbiev will be able to make LHW for much longer though, so they'll probably try to push for a title in the next year. Since him and Stevenson are in the same camp, that means Kovalev.

beterbiev to me seems like just a massive roider, i dont see how one could be that strong all over naturally
crap boxer, but like a tank so who knows, i'd favor kovalev to beat the sht outta him before he could land anything too big but there might be some scares when he turns into a bulldozer

One think I know for sure, this won't be a mismatch in favor of Kovalev even now. Artur was able to hold his own against Oleksandyr Usyk! Kovalev can't do shiiit.

I don't care how good Beterbiev is, he's 7-0 he needs to chill out. I know there's a trend with great Olympic boxers schooling veterans (Rigondeaux-Donaire) and holding their own against other more season pros (Lomachenko-Salido), with very few pro fights but it's only a matter of time before that ends up taking the wrong turn. I would stay away from Kovalev until i'm like at least 20 pro fights in and have already felt what real pro power is without headgear. Betebiev destroyed Cloud, and will likely demolish Campillo too but Kovalev is too early. This is a guy who easily beat Hopkins and KO'ed Pascal. Kovalev is on a whole other level from Cloud and Campillo.
Beterbiev-Atoev
Beterbiev was rocking Atoev, guy is an animal, got robbed in this fight like so many others. Was getting hit but just walking through him, they look like they're in two different weight classes, Beterbiev throwing him around the ring like nothing.
A couple years later Atoev moved down to middleweight and Beterbiev up to 201lbs.
Besides a hiatus with Darnell Boone, Kovalev waited 17 fights to finally prove himself with Simakov... Beterbiev climbs the ladder much faster with Cloud and Page jr within 7 fights... Kovalev still can't smell Beterbiev and it shows... My guess is he will do everything to postpone that fight ... Advantage Beterbiev anyway for me, even now...
oooh interesting, do you have a source to this? id love to read more about it XD.
and on topic though, kovalev is such a boss. love this guy haha
I found it, it's very broken English due to the translate function but you can kind of make it out:
Ilya Ryabtsev: Recently, in one of his last interviews, you spoke quite critical to the Kazakh WBA world champion Shumenov. Immediately followed by a flurry of expected-a jealous reaction Beibut countrymen. Why not just write insulted the Kazakhs. In particular, it is not the case, alleging that you have repeatedly stood in sparring with Gennady Golovkin and twice he sent you on the canvas. Do not want to bring it up again murky subject, but I will ask just for the sake of interest, it is true, Golovkin about genes?
Sergei Kovalev: All this "candy" ... About Shumenov ready to repeat, a true champion should fight and defend his belt more often. Now, Golovkin. We do not just stand with him in a pair. Once, a few years ago, I returned to the US from Russia, just started training and I was put with Gena, who was already in operation. I'm somewhere gape and it really clearly hit me right in the solar plexus. I sat down on one knee, had some time to breathe ... That's all. As for the genes, it must be said at once - he is a great boxer and right, good man. I respect him. And I'm not ashamed to admit that our experience has given me a lot of sparring as a boxer. And in general I Gena always nice to talk to. Do not quite understand what purpose this story with my interview dragged Golovkin ...

If someone who speaks Russian wants to click the link and provide a better translation then by all means please do so.
I'm sure I saw a video where Kovalev was asked about the Golovkin sparring too.
Kovalevs character is so cool. A Russian badass who talks **** to his opponents in broken English and then ko's them in the ring.
What's not to like? :boxing:
He did speak on that, he said he's not ashamed to admit he went down from a bodyshot but that he was out of camp and Golovkin was close to his fight, i.e. fight-ready. He said they sparred on another occasion and they beat the hell out of each other.

Kovalev has put the LHW division back on the map. This fight is going to be sick.
Don't let them use Beterbiev as some type of Hitman/Gatekeeper for Stevenson. I want Stevenson vs Kovalev...Beterbiev can get his shot vs THE WINNER!
Beterbiev looks impressive especially vs Cloud but he only has 7 Pro Fights so far!
That's what Michel has been trying to do. Aducknis better come first, Artur isn't his protective brother for christ sake.
