The excuses for cotto in here is laughable. He was hurt in damn near every fight, it was only a matter of time until he ran into a guy that would destroy him. Catch weight had nothing to do with this.

Because Cotto was already having issues keeping comfortable at welterweight, let alone being forced to fight at 145 (Cotto immediately moved to 154 after Pacquiao) and Team Pacquiao continued to dick around with the weight for a possible rematch.

Both fighters who gave Cotto those beatings were cheating at the time. Margarito was a confirmed cheater and anyone with any sense knows that Pacquaio was on PEDS at the time of the Cotto fight. Cotto easily beat Margarito in the second fight and would have beaten Pac at 154 if the fight had taken place. Cotto was offered a rematch with Pacquiao at 150 and turned it down flat. When Cotto was negotiating a rematch with Margarito for Cotto's 154 pound title Cotto insisted that Margarito fight him at a weight limit of 150 pounds. Margarito refused and they settled on a catch weight of 153 pounds. So Cotto prefers to fight at a top weight of 150 for Margarito but won't fight Pacquiao at an ounce under 154 pounds. I don't think Cotto wanted to fight Pacquiao again at any weight. Just my opinion.

Cotto outgrew the welterweight division and Pacquiao is just a lightweight who fights at welterweight because that's where the money is. They could not agree on a catch weight to fight at. Team Pacquiao offered 150 lbs. but Cotto said no. He wanted the fight at 154 lbs. and Pacquiao said no so the fight never happened. Now they are good friends with the same trainer. That is my memory of why the rematch never happened anyway.

Just finished rewatching the fight, I had thought manny stopped him in the 8, it was the 12... Manny had cotto running from the 6 round, he was done and was circling away, running to back pedal... Manny looked his best in that fight tbh. Of course he looked his best. He beat a gimped 145 lb self trained cotto. And it still took him 12rounds to finish him. Did u see paqs ear doe after the fight. Cotto dished out punishment too. It was cottos greed at fault. He agreed to the catch weight cause he wanted the fight. He fired his uncle becuase they fought over money. Cotto was to damn cheap to pay him. And then he was dumb enough to not hire another to fight paq!! Of course paq whipped dat azz. A rematch at 150-54 with his uncle or a competent trainer woukd seriously hurt paq. The cotto that showed up agisnt martinez will murder him. The rematch didn't happen becuase negotiations failed mostly due to the weight issue. Cotto wanted it manny per roach and smartly declined. Paq was an absolute beast that night and only made Cotto quit in round 12. He didn't knock him out. So naturally paq wasn't wanting to face a Cotto 5 or more pounds heavier. And everyone knew including Cotto that he needed and was going to get a trainer. So paq simply said no. Smart. Cotto also said no to the low weight request. Smart. So fight did t happen becuase both fighters wised up. Cotto more so he learned a very tough lesson at the hands of paq.
