HBO won't allow Ward to weight drain another LHW. Also they're aiming for the end of May, so likely he won't be fighting Froch.
I have heard that Andre Ward's return opponent might be Tommy Oosthuizen... Can you confirm that?
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:59 PM)
HBO has told me point blank they are not doing that fight, to which I said good because it rots.
Is Andre Ward lined up to fight anyone, or is he still in the business of talking about fighting one day? #wastedprime
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:31 PM)
Roc Nation and HBO are in talks for his next fight and a contract. One possible date for his return if they can iron things out is May 30 in Oakland. But that's pretty soon. We shall see how it goes.

Hilarious. Utterly absurd. But hilarious.
Ward's previous status as the recognized 2nd best boxer on the planet was based on him winning a tournament where he was the only person who never fought in his opponents back yard. The first fight with Froch wasn't close enough to warrant a rematch, but one in Carl's back yard would generate a good deal of interest. It would also silence critics that argue Andre has been the beneficiary of refs favorable to his style of clinching, I mean fighting. It would also mean much money for both camps. Utterly absurd and hilarious doe.

as you already know, nobody pays attention to boxrecs automated rankings, but keep up the good fight. If they win it's like you won!
He likes to write essays in people's karma messages too.
Yeah I don't mind a sprinkle of red amongst all the green, but I could probably do without the half page of mindless drivel.
I don't want Andre Ward to fight Oosthuzien. I want him to fight Froch, Golovkin, the Dirrell brothers, and Kovalev.
So no tune up necessary then? Been wanting to see Ward/Andre Dirrell for years. Froch would be okay, but only in England. Kovalev or Stevenson would be great, but Ward seems more concerned with dragging up MWs to fight him. But only after a couple of tune ups at 2 mill a pop. #2 p4p doe. Well at least he used to be.

Yeah I'm not sure which is more absurd. Posting Boxrec rankings, or current rankings (as opposed to when he fought them.) You did both.
Why are earth do you bring that up? Very tangent to the conversation...
The debate was Oosthuizen in comparison to Golovkin's top opponents. No ones debating Golovkin's opponents to Ward's wins over Kessler, Froch, and Abraham, so sit back down.
Hey rodriguez was coming from a decent momentum victory too. However ward beat a real champion in Chad dawson.
... ward smashed on the super six CHAMPIONS not vs fighters had had decent momentum
... then let them make a "Super Six" at the Middleweight, feed them to Golovkin and then just watch... Tell us later what you found out...
Decent Momentum? Lol ward smashed on the super six CHAMPIONS not vs fighters had had decent momentum

What's your point? They all had decent momentum going into their fight with Golovkin. They all had some quality performances in title fights prior to Golovkin (exception being Rosado, who had a quality performance vs Quillin just 9 months after Golovkin).
Oosthuizen has never in his career had a quality peformance vs a top 10 SMW.

Alright so why do you think HBO rejected this fight then if not for money?
I think it comes down to the same reason that HBO didn't sign both Stevenson and Kovalev to exclusive deals, when they were in the process of building to the massive Stevenson-Kovalev the first time around; they saw one fighter/promoter, so hung up on getting the HBO rub that they were more than willing to let HBO short them on the money, in the hope that, at some point in the future, their fighter will be able to make back some of the money that they missed out on, while the other fighter promoter, with a strong foreign TV market and a sizable live draw in their own right, unwilling to take HBO's "take it or leave it" offer without shopping around. Stevenson/GYM listened to HBO's offer, shopped around to gauge the market, found a better offer, and came back to HBO, to see if they were willing to sweeten their offer/match the market. HBO, in essence, said "go **** yourself" and the slander machine began to roll.
Ken Hershman, when he came over from Showtime, brought his star, Andre Ward with him; young guy, elite fighter, family man with no outside issues, smooth talker, and America's last Olympic gold medalist.
Helped pay him $1.4m to fight the lineal light heavyweight champion (in front of an excited home crowd of 9k), watched the Pavlik fight fall apart in front of him for Andre, and paid him $1.9m for his big return fight against Rodriguez.
Since Ward has been out, HBO has seen their viewer numbers hold steady on low-budget fights and, imo, HBO is trying to 'pull Ward's card'. The move to RocNation makes them the only customer for Ward's fights and they're putting the screws to him.
Ward made $1.9m for his last fight and, imo, HBO is trying to punk him into dropping a million off of that for his next fight on their airwaves, less money than what Ward earned in the Froch fight on Showtime (where he staked his claim to the division).

Those guys were all rated as top 10 MW's, save for Rosado. Rosado went on to prove himself vs Love & Quillin right after Golovkin though.
What's Oosthuizen's best win? Marcus Johnson or Zuniga? Oosthuizen got beaten up by Brandon Gonzales who's not even a top 10 SMW. Needed judges to help him get a win over Maderna who's not a top 10 either. He was a prospect with potential and has since been a bust.

Guess you missed the part of that press release that also had "$350, $150, $100, $50, $25"
Now show everybody where the $10 tickets were...
....and then figure out how to troll better.
Here's the ticket link to the Canelo fight...please show everybody where all those $10 tickets were, expert...

Murray was a quality fight though so you'd expect he would get paid more for that (although I'm sure they didn't pay him a million since the time and location of the fight).
GGG got $400,000 against Stevens. $750k for Geale. His highest purse to date was Rubio. Clearly a big difference from what Ward is asking for his tune ups.
Why is that? What indication is there that Ward is not asking for that much? Why else would HBO reject it? Clearly they don't see the value in this fight for the price. I suppose another factor could be that HBO simply doesn't like the fight, they don't think it will be entertaining.
Because Ward hasn't fought in 18 months, Oothuizen has near no profile stateside, and Ward's deal with RocNation, if it's anything like the deal that Miguel Cotto actually signed, probably includes a good amount of side money coming Ward's way.
He fought Dawson for $1.4m and he fought Rodriguez for $1.9m, both on HBO, so any notion that he's supposed to even consider $500k for a fight is silly. The idea that he's demanding some giant purse, with his new RocNation deal freshly in pocket, is just as silly.
:lol1: Ooze wouldn't even be a top 5 scalp on GGG's resume nor would Ward's last opponent E-Rod.
