Cotto needs ppv fights. Roc nation said k9 wouldn't be ppv. Showtime rejected cotto/k9 once and would again. Don't see HBO caring much for it either.
Espinoza said Haymon was down for cotto/khan. This fight makes sense. Khan wants it.
Isn't Kahn's kryptonite a left hook doe? Cotto's is up there with the best in boxing... That fight doesnt go the distance. If Cotto can't keep up though he could catch a beating too. Whoever imposes their style will win impressively. Even then, if Kahn imposes his will and is beating the breaks off Cotto he's still in danger of getting ktfo if Cotto decides to wing left hooks with him. Lol
I don't think cotto is campaigning in the middleweight class but will take a middleweight fight after taking a stay busy fight. Khan is a good stay busy fight if cotto comes in at 150-152 with no title on the line. If he drops the middleweight belt, he should fight canelo, maidana, and khan. If he keeps the belt, a khan fight is ok only if he takes the GGG fight after.
great post, couldnt have said it better myself...

In terms of entertainment value? Yes.
As a Khan fan? No.
For the lineal MW crown? No.
It's a big name fight with two large fan bases. It works and Khan is in a win/win situation. If he wins, he has a huge name to add to his resume and the demand for Mayweather. If he loses, he just went to far up in weight. But for Khan, he would earn a big payday and his ego wouldn't take a huge hit should he lose. That is why he went ahead and called out Cotto. The numbers would work for both.
why would you want the middlewight "champ" to fight a guy whos has only 2 fights at 147?
My thoughts as well. Cotto needs to defend the belt against a legit top-5 middleweight.
Supposedly Al will do it, as OP said.
Also Cotto's team told ESPN/TSS's Michael Woods in NY (Friday I think it was?) that Khan is a possibility.
People keep saying Khan just went to 147, 160 is crazy but he wouldn't be going all the way to 160, he'd be going to 154.5 lbs, easily done IMO and whether you're a Khan fan or not (I am) but can't we all agree it's a sh*tload better than Cotto-Bundrage?!
The only meaningful fights cotto can take at this point are canelo and GGG. Both those fights are ppv. I wouldn't pay for ppv if cotto fights anyone other than those two. That being said I'd still watch cotto vs anyone if it's free though.
There's too many good fights fur Khan at 147, he needs to stay there. Cotto has no business fightin a guy that just started his 147 campaign, he's the middle weight champ he needs to be fighting guys there defending his title.
I'm a Cotto fan, but he has no business fightin welter weights
How's he gonna fight Cotto @ 160 when he's bare started fighting at 147?
I mean I get people love to hate on Khan but he's not ready to fight at 160. That's just ridiculous!!!
If Cotto gives up his world middleweight title he can fight whoever he wants to and it's OK with me. If he keeps his middleweight title then I want him to defend it against a top 5 world ranked middleweight at the standard middleweight limit of 160 pounds and not an ounce less. He won't be back in the ring until late June and that's over a year without defending his title and no injury as an excuse. That is way too long. Even Mayweather manages two title defenses a year although he should give up the 154 pound world titles he will never defend. Cotto would almost certainly knock Khan out in my opinion.
i don't see the problem with Cotto being 160 champ and taking a fight at 154. Floyd does it at 154/147. A year ago roach was saying Cotto could fight at 147. I don't see size being a big factor here.
im on the fence.
In one hand we aint up to see khan get iced but on the other hand I want to see cotto face a live dog for once and khan dont fit that bill.
He has not really stated his intent to stay at 160, if he wants to go back down its understandable.
That's cool, understandable, but if that is the case he needs to drop the ****ing belt already, holding the belt hostage with no intention of defending is pathetic. Let's not forget he has been inactive for a long time, he needs to either defend or drop as soon as possible.
I think it's safe to say that bridge has been burnt.
Yeah I agree
We could have had the spiritual trilogy ending of Cotto-Margarito III, with a Cotto-Rios fight, but Cotto had to go and get all Hova on the boxing world
