Wasn't it eliminated for health reasons. No reason to being it back
It was a concession to the idea of fighter safety, and a signal that the people in charge of the sport cared about the risks. The sort of dramatic move that's required when there's public uproar.
It's not like 12 rounds of two guys trying to punch each other into a concussion is fine, but 15 rounds of it is reckless and disgusting.
12 rounds isn't some magic number, it's just (somewhat) safer than 15. But 10 is safer than 12, and 8 is safer than 10. It's arbitrary.
And it's still two men trying to punch each other unconscious. Let's not act like the people who are fine with 12 rounds of that are entitled to say the people who want 15 rounds of it are sick.
actually a good idea would cut out a lot of draws. In time there would also be a bit of an aura develop around 'round 13' imo
It's not like there are many draws though. The promoted fighter gets the split decision most of the time. Round 13 would just be an extra round to gift to the home fighter..
Nah let's change it to 20 rounds
That way fighters are more prone to get tired , worse defence and sustain more head trauma
I think Jas should stop watching boxing and go watch ballet. Injuries can happen at any point during a boxing match - amateurs too. If it dropped to 10 rounds do you think we would see less head injuries? I don't think so.
Fact of the matter is any contact sport is dangerous, these are PRIZE fighters that fight for a living, they know the risks. Besides boxing believe it or not is much safer than many other sports, and head injuries are incredibly rare.
If it's going to happen it's going to happen. Many boxers spar 20 rounds at a time all around the world, to an observer who just watches boxing and posts on here they probably won't know that but try actually stepping in a gym and find out for yourself I have sparred many rounds people do unlimited rounds and no set time limits! Injuries can happen in sparring or in a fight, it's the nature of the business.
15 rounds should be brought back because it separates the men from the boys. Anyone who says it will lack intensity obviously hasn't watched many 15 rounders. That's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Of course some would pace themselves just as some would gas in round 3. Unification fights at least should have 15 rounds. Go watch Ali Frazier 3.
I think some posters dream about fairies, pink elephants and fluffy pillows. Man up. If someone starts a petition on change dot com for 15 rounders I will sign it.
No I think we should change it to 3 round fights then you wouldn't get all these fighters pacing themselves for 12 rounds. All the action of a 12 round fight in 3 rounds! Also they should wear headgear because scientists know all about concussions now and fighters need to be protected at all times. I don't know how you can enjoy watching a 12 round fight when someone might get hurt.

So for entertainment = more boring.
Fighters won't be accustomed to it and will overcompensate in earlier rounds and pace themselves too much
As a spectacle for casuals, who make up the vast majority of the audience, it would be worse
/thread
No
It's more dangerous for the fighters
Stupid idea
Because why make such a drastic change before such a big fight
The pace of earlier rounds will be slower = more boring
Think this through
I do for sure. Almost all the main events are 12 rounds now. !5 rounds for really important fights is perfect and gives the fans 3 more rounds of action barring a KO. It tests the stamina of good champions.
I say unification bouts and/or lineal title fights
im more in tune with lets change it from 10 -12 to 11-13. wich could end alot of draws that dont have knock downs by forcing a winner.

15 rounds make for slower paced fights,
less explosiveness,
weaker boxers.
featherfistedness and less KO's,
less intense drama.
The era of 15 round fights were virtually unwatchable! Back and forth punch baggery (because defence hadn't been developed yet) and still nobody could barely hurt anybody!
Why the HELL would anybody want to go back to that!
If boxing was ever that bad again, nobody would even watch the ****!
You need an adequate number of rounds for tactical plans to play out (10-12 is more than enough for that). Any higher means less actual boxing, less recourse to technical ability and basically just a game of low intensity endurance.
If you want to watch that, watch the marathon runners! This is the HURT business!
I just read your post and I must say I agree 100%. 15 rounds would only hurt the action and intensity.
The intensity of each round will go down under a 15th round fight do to the fact that the fighters will have to pace themselves for 15 rounds instead of 12. 12 rounds is a good balance.
15 rounds would be awesome but watcha gonna do. of course if one sanctioning body wanted to establish themselves as a particularly badass title they could just say if the IBF title is gonna be on the line it's gotta be a 15 rounder or whatever.
I agree. The question is though, what fights would count for 15 rounds.

yeah, make these guys endure the compounded punishment for those extra 3 rounds to make sure that they are indeed 'legit'. while you're at it we should go back to 4 ounce gloves also and restrict any doctors from attending the carnage ringside. And if they get cut, the other corner should be allowed to go over to pour salt in the wounds. Using battering clubs will be left optional.....:soapbox:
you guys are clueless to the inherit dangers in those extra 9 minutes.
12 rounds of brutality is more than enough for any fighter to endure.
Boxing is a dangerous sport with the current 36 minutes. How much they prayed for Magomed after he endured that punishment for 10 rounds and is basically a shadow of his former self now. You think they are sincere in their sadness of what happened when the incident occurs, they quickly forget and look at what they are asking for now. Boxing fans are no good, I keep repeating it, and they keep proving me right. Boxing has the worst fans of any sport.
I want to see what Magomed's family, Ali's family, families of fighters who died in the ring, I want to see what they have to say about this nonsense.
I also think mega fights should have naked ring card girls, and that is more likely than 15 rounders. 15 round fights will NEVER be back regardless of how we feel.
I agree. The question is though, what fights would count for 15 rounds.
^this. what would count for 15 rds?
unifications?
"big fight" is too subjective lol
