That 96 Olympics was the last great boxing competition....I was 11 years old and never watched amateur boxing closely. when I saw Vargas, WLAD and Mayweather fight I knew they'd be champions the 96 Olympics produced MANY CHAMPIONS and current trainer from across the world There was Wlad Vassily Jirov Floyd Fernando Vargas David Reid Antonio Tarver TMT member Nate Jones eric morel david diaz Daniel Santos the list goes on

I had heard of him before in the news and in the media, but the first fight I saw of his was against Manny Pacquaio earlier this year. It's actually the fight that first turned me into a boxing fan (and no, not because the fight was ultra-exciting or anything, but because I was sucked in by the hype and decided to watch it and as a result became more interested in other boxing matches and whatnot...)

The sharmba mitchell was PPV? lol, I thought he had started the trend of fighting bums on overpriced PPV's more recently It wasn't. It was on regular HBO in Portland, OR. It was his first 147 fight in preparation for Zab.

Need to include his Gatti fight- that was his PPV debut. And REALLY need to include Corrales fight, that was the most eye-opening performance Floyd ever turned in.

Mayweather - JMM was the first Floyd match I ever saw I recall thinking ¨that black dude is a *****¨ when I was looking at the enormous size difference and the fact the bigger dude was still fighting overly defensive against the overmatched midget. JMM looked bloated and sluggish as hell in that fight, he was in his worst shape EVER, very different from the JMM that I had previously watched giving Pacquiao hell in two fights. Then I recalled that JMM was the lightweight champion and this match was at WW and I cringed. So JMM had jumped two divisions straight and was clearly not acclimated to the weight, and this guy called Mayweather looked huge in comparison and for some reason his weight wasn't made public, but It looked like I was watching a MW fighting a bloated LW, and the MW dude was fighting overly negative and cautious, forcing the smaller dude to be the aggresor, and never once looked for the KO. it was sickening. I started to despise Mayweather right there, I thought he was too much of a ***** and boring as ****. I have never been proved wrong ever since.

The Andrew Berto fight was the first time I ever saw Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. Guy is amazing, I became an instant fan. Can't wait for next fight. :boxing:

Not really sure about the first time I heard about or even saw Floyd, but the first Floyd PPV I bought was when he fought Sharmba Mitchell. I suspect a lot of people in this thread are not exactly being truthful. :lol1:
