Someone said Riddick Bowe?? He became Undisputed HW Champ after he beat Evander Holyfield. He defeated Holyfield in their Trilogy 2 out of 3 matches only losing the match that involved the parachute incident. He had some wars with Golota who at that time 1996 was prime and very tough to deal with. His only one loss was to Evander Holyfield??? The only thing I would have liked to see him accomplish further was to fight both Tyson and Lewis. The only one of the 4 HW's in the 90's that fought the other three was Holyfield (Lewis D and Lost, Tyson TKO, DQ and Bowe 1-2.
Mark Breland
Hector Camacho
Howard Davis Jr.
Tony Ayala
Mark Breland, good example.
Very good fighter and whilst having a good career he was expected to do some much more after his sterling amateur run. The Starling fight defintely did some damage.
Howard Davis, another good example. Ridiculous hand speed.
I agree with most people on this thread. Hamed comes to mind cuz he could of been an all time great. Tyson had the most potential and showed it early on but against weak competition, when competition got more interesting he stopped training or caring. But i still consider Tyson an all time great, so he reached a lot.
I also think David haye had all the natural abilities of a great fighter but when it mattered most he didnt use them.
I know some may disagree but both Kelly Pavlik and Jermaine Taylor come to mind.
By the way some really good picks for this thread.
Jermaine Taylor accomplished more then Pavlik. He defeated B Hop which has not proved to be an easy task. Kelly Pavlik on the other hand really didn't do much after capturing the title. He was one single uppercut away from being a no body.
Zab Judah - Could we say he didn't reach his full potential but he did become undisputed WW champion right? Maybe we expect longevity? He is on my list of fighters that could have done more than they should.
Mike Tyson - He became undisputed HW champion of the world and did at the youngest age of all time right? He won his fight title in Nov 86 and he became undisputed champion in June 88 when he defeated Michael Spinks. He lost his titles to Douglas in Feb 90. Tyson did all this and we still never saw his full potential IMAGINE!!!
