Showtime boxing chief Stephen Espinoza isn’t in “panic mode” yet regarding the never-ending negotiations between superstars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, and says that only a “handful” of issues remains to make the fight.
But he did say that a backup plan has already been put in place for Mayweather to face either Miguel Cotto or Amir Khan on May 2 if the Pacquiao talks collapse.
“He’s definitely fighting on May 2,” Espinoza told the Daily News in a phone interview on Friday. “His first choice by far is Manny Pacquiao. If it becomes clear that that fight is not achievable, then he would move on to either Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto. He’s made it clear to us that Pacquiao is still his No. 1 priority, and that’s where all our energy is focused.”
Espinoza said there was still plenty of time to announce the May 2 fight against Pacquiao.
“There is urgency to get this done and get it going, but we’re not in a panic mode in terms of the calendar right now,” he said.
Espinoza declined to say if there’s a firm deadline for when all parties would move on from a Mayweather-Pacquiao deal, but expressed confidence that whatever issues remain are surmountable.
“I would say I’m optimistic that it can get done,” Espinoza said. “We have work to do to bridge the gap on important issues, but the most important thing is that Floyd genuinely wants it and wants it badly, and from everything I’ve heard and seen, Manny wants the fight as well.”
Speaking in generalities about the complexity of the discussions, he said of the issues involved:
“Imagine the Super Bowl was negotiated on a case-by-case basis. So what network the Super Bowl is on, who produced it, which is the home team, where the teams stay, who gets introduced first, what network talent is involved and that gives a little bit of insight of why this process seems to be dragging on for quite a while.”
Imagine if Gayweather had a brain and committed to fighting Manny Pacquiao on Cinco De Mayo and have the fight announced during one of the Super Bowl commercials? Man, that would be all the promoting you'd need for this fight..Hello my name is Floyd Mayweather and on May 2nd, blah, blah, blah Manny Pacquiao, tune in and bam no need to promote the fight, you get that out the way in one fell swoop. Instead of helping the sport dumb motherfukers like Floyd hurt the sport with the stupid sh1t they do..The entire world watches the Super Bowl..
PRPP:boxing:
SuperBowl or DuckBowl
Floyd is being forced Into a PAC fight
But #floydcott will be in full effect if he ducks PAC. I'm sure he'll come up with a good excuse.

I'm 100% sure If Floyd doesn't except this fight and fights Khan instead, he deservers to be boycotted.

haha... amazing that these clowns have all the resources to make the pac fight happen and they're talking about back up plans. lol. just goes to show they don't want this fight. what a joke.
arum should be the one talking about backup plans because he's the one being backed into a corner.
Yea, let's post week old articles and present them as new and current....for our agenda.
:lol1:
Can't wait to read how Floyd was forced into this in a couple of days.
ShowTime: Come fight for us Floyd, we'll make sure you don't have to fight PAC. But you have to pretend like you want the fight though and we'll rescue you.
That's why Floyd and everyone Cotto has fought said he's tough to figure out... anything but predictable. Floyd called him awkward in the ring... If you feel Khan (best win is... Maidana or Paulie) gives Floyd a tougher fight fine. But making sh*t up saying Cotto is predictable when nearly everyone who's fought and even sparred him has called him tough to figure out and very deceptive. Mosley is another one who said the same thing... just stop bullsh*tting.
It wasn't hard for trout to figure him out and beat his ass....
Espinoza is full of crap... Nobody should listen to him, he is a stooge..
"No problem with Haymon taking his stable to other networks"
Lmao, that's all you need to know about this clown..
If this fight doesn't get made its because of floyd.. Point blank.. Manny and arum are desperate as hell, and hbo is on board as they would make more money than a worthless manny vs mikey, vargas, fight.. The ball is in Floyd's court, every demand manny has caved on, there is no excuse for floyd, he is calling all shots, yet somehow the fight can't be made... It's on floyd
I don't see how anyone can disagree with this, people like to call Arum a liar(I am sure he is), but I am sure Espinoza is worse, the guy is pretty much always in save face mode since Al Haymon ****ed him over, hell even before with last year's mismatches.

Who gives 2 sh1ts what this clown says
Garcia vs salka happened which means he has no control whatsoever because a person with his job would never allow that fight to happen
Well, Pacquiao vs Rios and Pacquiao vs Algiero happened and you STILL believe Arum and Manny lol
Espinoza you go and tell Mayweather that his plan B or Plan C aint gonna work and tell his ass if he aint giving me the manny fight he aint getting my 60 bucks.
cause we boxing casual, usual, die hard fans are hes boss.
I wonder what the PPV cost will be if the fight happens? It won't be $60 unfortunately. Would not be surprised if they charge something like $100 for HD and $80 for SD
As much as I want to see it there's no way I'm paying $100
If Floyd has to resort to a backup plan his career Is officially over. No need to finish those last two fights on his Showtime contract. I can't Imagine his Ppv numbers being anything other than disappointing without Pacquiao In the picture.
