I don't know that it would matter that much. It would probably/almost certainly be much harder to build a broad fanbase. But I don't think it would impede a talented fighters progress all that much. There wouldn't be any additional institutional barriers to overcome because of it. Unless he was Russian.

We watch weigh ins to look at their body at they parade it infront of the fans and we comment on how it looks. The reason we like it is subconsciously we either want to be dominated by another man or we want to dominate another man. It's as simple as that. So there is a market for it. This sport is about testosteron and machism. I personally could care less what their orientation is as long as they come to fight. I think the general public might defer in that opinion. Actually they could gain a competitive advantage! None of their apponents would want to clinch or hang on if they get hurt - could see more KOs ;-) But seriously? I could care less what the boxer does in his private life as long as he is a professional in the ring. It's kind of hard to honestly ignore a boxer's personal life. This isn't a team sport where you are cheering for a city or a logo. You are basically watching two people and have to pick one based on personality.

Not sure how accurate those stats are but unfortunately boxing is a very macho sport so I doubt it.

You'd have to be more beta with it. I'm not homophobic or anything but I think a really high-pitched camp annoying f@g would make me want to pay to see him get brutally knocked out.
