If Froch vacates cuz he wants to pursue bigger fights as Degale is his mandatory then most likely it will be between Degale-Groves for the Vacant title.
These guys got 19,000 people for their first bout while they were just prospects with less than 15 fights for British and Commonwealth titles. Cleverly's World title bout on the same card was a mere support bout.
This time the fight will be for a World title, so it is sure to be a huge event at Wembley, add the fact both are native Londoners. Groves doesn't deserve another opportunity so soon, but I want Degale to put a spanking on him.
First fight was close, I don't mind Groves got the decision as it was very even and could've gone either way, but let's not pretend he bashed up Degale like some people pretend. If anything props to the judges for doing an excellent job.
One more thing, if you didn't know these guys trained at the same amateur club as kids, so this is a genuine rivalry and not some social media beef.
What do you guys think?
Groves has the physical tools and ability to get even better. He hasn't looked the same since the first Froch fight. Even in the rematch, he didn't seem the same fighter. I wish he trained with a high level proven trainer who could improve him mentally, improve his conditioning a bit because he fades a lot in the middle of the fight. I can understand if he fades in the 2-3 rounds but his output is lowered significantly by around round 5-6.
I don't think he'll ever beat Ward and Dirrell but he can legitimately beat DeGale, if he makes the changes. Their first fight was super close, I gave it 7-5 Groves but I wouldn't have said 7-5 DeGale or a draw was a robbery. DeGale has been looking better and better, fighting better competition in his last few fights and looking convincing whilst doing so. He is slick, has good defensive ability but he needs to work on increasing his output and not relying to fight off the ropes or on the back foot as much. When DeGale throws combos, it is really nice to see because he has respectable power and more importantly his accuracy is what kills. On top of that he throws punches from different angles, something which I don't see enough of from Groves who is pretty stiff at times.
Everyone jumping on the DeGale bandwagon now :lol1:
Sickening isn't it?
Tempted to go look back at threads around the time of Dyah Davis etc etc.
DeGale took so much stick and now they all want to suck his cawk :lol1:
I went with DeGale by decision but I'm surprised there's no support for Groves at all. His stock hasn't so much fallen as crashed.
I was expecting at least one vote for George. His fall from grace is quite something. One minute he's seen by some as better than Froch and is going to conquer the world, then one brutal ko later he's a no hoper. I feel he only has himself to blame really. The way he conducted himself in the Froch rematch was pretty cringey.
Groves has regressed under Fitzpatrick and is a KO loss away from a ruined career. DeGale on the other hand has hugely improved and looks a real future force in the division.
It has indeed.
It's not just his chin though, everything has gone to sh*t. His punches are wider and very loose, he's lost a lot of his snap, his balance/positioning seems off, he is getting hit much more often against lesser opposition...he just looks a mess.
"Everything for a reason."
George has looked awful since the first fight against Froch, while DeGale has looked pretty good.
As much as I hate to say it, DeGale wins this time around.
Groves' chin to me has been always iffy.

Groves has looked horrendous since the Froch fight. He needs to take a year off or something he's looked dreadful.
You don't think he'll knock out Andre Ward any more?
DeGale will beat him comfortably this time.
He has been improving big time in rcent fights while Groves has looked like sh*t since Froch levelled him.
Things change fast, pre-Froch I'd have picked Groves.

This is how I feel, too.
If I knew the Groves from the first Froch fight would show up, I would pick him to beat DeGale. But Groves hasn't been the same since that brutal KO loss.
Picked Groves the first time around and felt it could of gone either way.
In a rematch I like DeGale in a big way. I see genuine growth and maturity in DeGale, Groves to me looks like a shot fighter. I don't know if its his new trainer, The Froch fights or a combination of the two, maybe he was burned out but he has looked horrible as of late. I wouldn't feel safe betting on him to beat any half decent, durable fighter who could punch.
Not sure I want to see a rematch though after all the talk and genuine hatred it was one of the most uneventful grudge matches I've seen.
DeGale will beat him comfortably this time.
