I honestly never understood this, the fight is promoted as usual, and comes on at the same time..so why does the location matter to boxing fans if they are going to order it or not? The biggest fights in history were out of the country..Rumble in the jungle, thrilla in Manilla for example..Tho before the ppv era i can not imagine the ppv's would be low just because the fight was overseas...So honeslty what does a fight being overseas have to do with ppv numbers?
I do not care about anything you just posted......all i am asking is why posters say location matters
It's because the media doesn't pay as much attention to events happening in far corners of the world compared to ones that are taking place in Vegas.
It might be partially a self-fulfilling prophesy: notice how they only did one 24/7 episode for Pac-Algieri (the presumption was, it's in China, we're not gonna sell that many PPV so not worth the investment). But maybe they could've sold more if they did a full 24/7. Who knows?
Dana White has said the same thing.
It was different when boxing was mainstream news and newspapers had enormous budgets to send writers to Zaire or Manila for a month to report from the fighters' camps up until the fight. Location didn't matter as much then as it does now.
How about this Larry, provide any data that supports your theory that location does not affect PPV. So far, we only have data that indicates that it does.
There are multiple factors that affect PPV purchases, in the case of Rios and Algieri there was little interest because of the name, location, and low amount of domestic marketing. Arum/Pac took a deal in Macau because there was other forms of compensation that more than made up for low PPV, also having Algieri meant very little operation cost to pay the challenger, lets face it, even if he had another better known named player, a couple hundred thousand ppv's probably wouldn't have made up for the millions more it would cost to get that name.
New york,L.A,Vegas,San Francisco...that is the usual promotion
This thread is littered with all the usual suspects lol. The money team pay per view counters... The only 5-10 guys on this site who even give 2 fks about how many PPV sales happen when Manny fights.
Who cares how many either him or Floyd do, time to sell 3 million together in the ring...
How does any of this effect who buys the ppv?

you know damn well the people you're subtly/generally accusing aren't going to pop up in this thread Larry. lol
Sad man...i really can not stand people who spout nonsense with nothing to back it up
what other ppv boxing event is held in another country in recent years other than manny? Of course is about him c'mon now
that is when people said that fighting in other countries effect ppv sells...that is why is am asking.......i do not give a sh1t about what he sold, i just want to know why this was said...got it now??

It has nothing to do with PPVs. It is a convenient excuse that Bob Arum created to excuse the Pacquaio fights that bombed on PPV.
Location matters. Like the Olympics or relocating an pro team(nba/mlb/etc..), there are economic factors such as site fees, local economic impact, promotions, TV rights, etc..
If you put up an event in the UK most of the promotional budget will be allocated locally. That will affects US PPV.

So you ***** about people making Floyd-Pac thread so you can indirectly make one without mentioning names? Lol what a clown
aint got sh1t to do with Manny floyd..i am asking a simple question...posters say this all the time and i am asking why??
Manny made 850K in the Bradley rematch. So what's the difference? This is the Bradley that can't draw flies in his home location. Not to mention the crappy undercards. So what's the difference?
Has Showtime released Guerrero's numbers yet? How about Maidana 1 and 2? Show me a link.

I agree that it shouldn't have an effect on the buy rate whether it's Vegas, Rio, or London, so long as it's on at the usual time. The issue I think is that if you're at the stage of making it a ppv, you looking to rake in as much money as possible. Vegas is a place that pays the big events to come to them, where everywhere else you're renting out the building and rooms, ect. The bigger the event, the more Vegas will pay. Fighting at MSG is bit cost prohibitive. Expensive to rent out, then NY taxes take a big chunk, where Vegas is less so.
